Having tossed the coin for the div 2 GF two years in a row, there was just a slight difference in the length of time when the result of the toss was known and the choice of direction was made... Last year was a record in terms of time between the coin turning up and the call made.
This year...
There is one major consideration that they haven't considered... Smart players are going to adapt to the new rule, here is how.
They are going to AIM FOR THE POST! If you have a shot on a tight angle, what are you going to try to do? You are going to maximise your potential of...
Looks like we have 3 teams going for 2 spots in Div 1. The equations could not be simpler. Eltham need to win at last one game (or hope that Bundoora beat Northcote Park). Bundoora need to win 1 game (if Eltham lose to Heidelberg). If they win against Northcote Park, they will play finals. If...
Is anybody else here looking forward to seeing the photos from "Pinksborough" this week? Great charity and worthy cause, and great way of promoting it...:thumbsu:
I don't know about during the game, but the after-match down under the Sherrin stand is one of the best going round. We had pretty much all of the players, both clubs committies, 4 of the umpires (of which I was one) and a large volume of spectators enjoying a bevvy after the game when Mernda...
Unfortunately the way the rules are interpreted with Holding the Ball, we are seeing second to the ball getting rewarded and some players even sitting back, waiting for their opponent to take possession before going in and tackling. When playing footy, we were always told get in there first, now...
I honestly think the holding the ball rule could be turned into an operetta. We'd have an instant number 1 hit on our hands here...
I am also wondering if some of the rules have disappeared fro the rule book entirely. I had a 50 metre penalty, where a player on the same team wanted to keep...
The biggest problem with holding the ball is quite simple. We are penalising the player who goes in and gets the ball. We need to reward the player who goes in and gets the ball first and give them TIME and OPPORTUNITY to dispose of it.
The situation with the AFL is concerned, it is rewarding...
I reckon that Madeline Pape could have gone all the way to the AFL as a boundary umpire. However, she decided to concentrate on her running and thus made the 2008 Olympic team in the 800m.:eek::eek:
I have been tempted when having the radio game - to wear the FM radio. Commentry goes "Was that a push in the back - Yes it was!" Then again knowing how accurate most of the commentators in local footy are, I thought better of it...
I'd reckon an extra couple of set of eyes in the stands...
Did the right team win by the right amount? I think given how much St Kilda butchered their shots at goal and wasted their chances, I think Geelong winning by 2 goals (with a goal on the final siren) was about correct... The priorities of the umpires were right - they at least gave the player...
I'd say keep the mics on the umpires, it is a really useful tool for explaining to younger umpires exactly how much you need to be talking out there on the field... It also allows what is said on the ground to be able to be used as evidence in tribunal cases.
If ManInWhite or myself were ever...
Most of the quarters went for at least 35 minutes. When you consider that the final siren didn't ring until 5:15pm and we got under way at 2:15pm, that's a long day at the office...
I tossed the coin, the MacLeod Captain called "heads" and the coin came up tails. Then followed a long pause from the Whittlesea captain, before choosing to go into the wind. I reckon it's the sort of toss that you'd actually want to lose... If you decide to go with the wind and kick 1 goal 15...
They are wondering why numbers across the board are dropping...
When you consider that 15 years ago Division 1 Seniors at the Eastern Football League was about $90 for the game. It seems like that pay across the board at all leagues has flatlined over that period of time.
Especially when...
Re: Round 18 Epping vs Mernda
Well had they been given a 180 point victory. Then the required winning margin would have been 2 points.
As it stands now 7 goals to nil would also do the trick. It will be interesting if it is somewhere between 40 and 50 points the difference with a few minutes...
If results go as per expectations, then the only change in the top 8 shall be Fitzroy Stars moving into 4th at Epping's expense.
As for what to do with the draw, if there is any idea of how to compose a draw, then something along the lines of my earlier suggestion should work:
Have the team...
Wee you would have either 2 at home or 3 at home. I think priority should be given to clubs who have played 6 at home should get 3 more home games. Next priority is for clubs to play at the alternate venue against the team that they have already played. Then if still in doubt, probably give the...
Here is what I would do...
Have the team that finishes 1st play 3rd 7th 5th 2nd 8th
Have the team that finishes 2nd play 4th 6th 8th 1st 7th
Have the team that finishes 3rd play 1st 5th 7th 4th 6th
Have the team that finishes 4th play 2nd 8th 6th 3rd 5th
Have the team that finishes 5th...
I have never heard a noise like it on the ground as I did when running around during the Stars v Macleod game, especially when the game intensity lifted during the 3rd quarter. My only downer on the venue was the lack of an after match to have a yarn with everyone after a game like that...
The rules are trying to kill it, much to my disgust...
However, if we had a better centre square rule (no player allowed enter the square until the ball is touched by a ruckman). Then we wouldn't have to worry about the recall rule and players having to get back to position... The controlling...
The noise coming out of the Sherrin Stand at Victoria Park was awesome, particularily in the second half...
I have never heard a din like it from both groups of supporters. The place had atmosphere for sure on Saturday, it was cooking...
Yes they bounce it in the NFL :):):):):)
No that is not why I changed leagues...
After a year of not bouncing it, it was like riding a bike (very easy to pick up again)...
I can't believe that we are even entertaining this thread
It's not that hard a skill to bounce a footy. Grab ball in hands and throw it hard into the ground/mud. It's always worked for me :D
Seriously if we want to improve ruck contests, how about only one ruckman at around the ground...
