Player Watch #11: Luke "Two Dogs" McDonald (Part II) - Roo til end '26 - 2023/24 co captain w/ Jy

To be fair, he did completely shut Larkey out of the game.
True, but part of that was Larkey's poor game. Could have had three goals (his ave last year) but his own errors cost him.

Multiple times in the first half McDonald did good defender stuff that stopped Freo too, including a chase where he genuinely looked bloody fast.

Didn't think he did much wring yesterday especially compared to his usual last year. Only one helicopter into the f50 and was Unlucky with the 50m penalty but there were worse players

The 50 was bad. Right idea, wrong execution in a place where we couldn't afford that to happen.

Funny.

I thought Lmac played on Walter’s yesterday keeping him to 10 touches and 1.1 (the 1 goal coming from a soft free in the 1st qrt).

Obviously I have that wrong.
Barely noticed Walters. Means LMac did a job. He has to play out of skin to offset the whipping boy bias. He stays in every week if he has that sort of impact. Aimless kicks and all.

People that are drunk on attacking flair are forgetting that there's another entire side to the game, which many good coaches prioritise.

I'm no great LMac fan but fair's fair. He was fine yesterday

Luke will come good. His team mates want him out there because they elected him co- captain so in that "space" he's doing something right.

He has indeed become a good lockdown defender. Not so much a rebounder but, and it's a very big BUT, he's a midfielder who kicks goals. Has never been played there by any of his coaches.

Would love to see one of them, just one, try him on the HFF, opposite Jy. Then see how that goes.

And?

Did Lmac play on him?

If yes, did Walters play well?

If no, then did McDonald do his job? Or no because Walter’s isn’t as good as he used to be?
I've got no idea if he did or not.

It's certainly relevant if he did as claimed as it adds context to the performance though as to the quality of the opponent he's matched up on.

What a debacle.

Massive pick given and contract to a barely VFL standard footballer.

These decisions like with TT, CCJ just make everything worse.

See I just don’t understand. Lmac should be dropped or played poorly, because despite beating Walters, his man, it wasn’t good enough because Walters is now crap?

I didn't say that LMac should be dropped, I purely made a comment about Walters. You are tying my comment into other posters opinions.
