AFL Player #13: Nik Cox - Subbed out vs GCS

Not sure there is one. I feel Goodes is actually a little bit underrated. Maybe it’s all the racism stuff that did it. But he was a genuine freak of a player, an absolute megastar. Could genuinely play every position on the ground with aplomb. With his size, speed and skills, at his best he was literally unstoppable.
Every club in the AFL would move heaven and earth to have a player like Adam Goodes.

Except KKKollingwood.

I'd take Judd, Franklin and Martin ahead of him. Would be in the discussion with the likes of Fyfe, Pendlebury etc.

Buddy

Top three for me. Judd and Fyfe rounding out the top 5. Martin, Pendles, Bont the next group

Pendles is amazing but Fyfe's peak was phenomenal.

*I feel i missed so much of peak Fyfe cos Freo were boring to watch (thanks Ross), so i always caveat him when i put him 10th.

That's my top 10 from those who debuted post 2000

Fyfe has 2 Brownlow's despite pretty much never having played a full season. He was bloody good at his best.

Extraordinarily that we have posters talking about him being too slow, too soft etc…..not because they are wrong necessarily but because his first season held so much promise. What the hell did we do to him??

My main concern is that he no longer shows the flair and confidence that marked season 1 - the boy needs to get his mojo back. Play him where he can just play and doesn’t have to think. Wing is not that position.

has missed over a year of footy as a 3rd year player, and missed his u18 year due to covid.
The 2020 cases were always gonna be a bit harder.

it was one game back and i thought he was alright. sharp decision making, ran the 4 quarters ok, kicking was pretty good, hands were good.
Im ok to continue with wing or flank. Maybe rotate him into Ridley spot or push him forward to stretch the swans.

still a believer but **** me stop playing him on the wing, he’s visibly confused out there. i feel like a lot of his ‘soft’ moments happen because he doesn’t know if he’s supposed to go or not and kinda hovers about hesitating.

When do you question the work ethic of a player? Genuinely don’t know how he appears to be the same size as 2 years ago. If he plays in defence as many are suggesting, he will be outworked by stronger forwards.

Size doesn't always equal strength. Besides, he was listed at 87kg in his draft year and was listed 94kg at the start of this year.

And I don't think he's ever been profiled as a strength type power player anyway.

Yeh his arms are that small it’s not funny. There’s basic strength you’d expect a third year player to have. It is a physical contact sport

Um buddy Franklin 🤣
Third for me.

Goodes was someone that could and regularly did change games from every position on the field. He was genuinely unbelievable.

Yeh he had many strings to his bow, but he ain’t better than buddy. Buddy the best player since Carey imo and he’s probably right there beside him. Ablett jnr a freak, but how many good mids come through compared to what buddy has been. Doubt we’ll ever see another player like him again, would’ve kicked 1400+ if he played in the 80s/90s
