Over the course of the season he only averaged 6.2 per game, but he did have some games which were much, much better than that.
I tend to agree. I think I did something like this after about 5 rounds last season, and he'd played quite well until that point... I think his performances then dropped off for much of the rest of the season - barring a couple of good games her and there. I don't know. I'm just being optimistic. I think he's been pretty clean with his disposal this year, and I'm generally pretty confident he'll do what's required when he goes near the ball. He's been involved in a lot of great passages of play this year and here's hoping he's involved in a lot more... preferably against Geelong and the Bulldogs and the Giants... and preferably in Prelims and Grand Finals.Great work!
Am a Mackay critic but have to acknowledge that he's playing very well mostly this season.
In the back of my mind I still don't trust him not to let us down against the best teams when it counts. He can win me over with a good game vs Geelong at Kardinia Park and other games like that.

Ok then. Here we go. Given that heated discussion about everybody's favourite Number 14 is the thing we seem to love most on this board, I provide you all with the following. A breakdown of a bunch of stats, relevant to midfield play, from the first five games of the season. I've included any players considered to be rotating through the midfield on a regular basis, and ranked them on their output. I'll note how many times they top a particular stat, and how many times they feature in the top 3 for a stat. Plus, how many times they come dead last amongst the group. We can then use/dismiss the provided stats to beat each other over the head to justify our own positions on the matter. Good times.

1. Sloane (40 points)
2. Atkins (47)
3. Mackay (59)
4. Cameron (65)
5. Crouch (67)
6. Douglas (77)
7. Knight (84)
8. Hampton (100)
8. Milera (100)
Personally, I kinda think this almost sums up where our midfield group currently is. Sloane and Atkins have been the overall standouts, Crouch and Cameron play their specific roles very well, Mackay and Douglas have been very good in whatever supporting roles have been required, while Knight has been the best of the three younger players.
I've argued before that Mackay should have been dropped at any number of times in the past due to poor performances. But the reality is that he's been more than serviceable this year in a team playing some wonderful football. I'd call him a "jack of all trades, master of none". It seems increasingly likely that this year the Crows should be pushing deep into finals. While I think Hampton and Knight can provide something special to our lineup, the truth is, that if we were playing a final next week and we had to chose between Milera and Mackay, on current performances, I would choose Mackay in a heartbeat.
Please note: I think we need to continue to give games to Milera, and with our current injury list, he will continue to get those opportunities. I think he can become a great player for the club. At present however, Mackay is a better option.
Have at me...
Out of his depth. Plays 2 good games a year. Trains like a champion but once its gameday he shits the bed. How much longer arewe going to persist with this ****ing bullshitCan't tackle, can't kick, can't make correct decisions, can't win the football. Can't run and carry
Has to go. Permanently.
I have to give him props for turning up and trying. His continued selection makes me angrier than the pathetic way he plays
I count a lot more than 3 missed tackles. At least 6 I reckon.Stats today to the half.
3 turnovers, 3 missed tackles, 3 yr old skinny arms.
Its a disservice to a 6 year old didnt fit my wittynessI count a lot more than 3 missed tackles. At least 6 I reckon.
Do you have a link to most games played? It could become a macabre little game watching him climb the leader board.
I stopped counting at 10 in the 1nd qtrI count a lot more than 3 missed tackles. At least 6 I reckon.

My god this thread title paints such a charade, much like the player himself.
Here are some more apt past thread titles,
July 2015: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/gold-pass-mackay-put-a-fork-in-him.1105179/
July 2016: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/the-official-drop-david-mackay-thread.1138598/
Either David's overall ineptitude as a footballer isn't now just obvious in the month July or any patience people had with a 28 year old 170 gamer putting in poor performances year after year eventually wears thinner than it once did.
This week will again prove how strong his will of perseverance and power of irresistibility to match committee really is.
