Possibly. I can get the main FTA channels plus 7mate 10 Peach and SBS Viceland on Foxtel, that’s all the extras.

I think the iQ box (5 iterations) can also make a difference what you get. I'm in WA with iQ4 and Foxtel satellite and every channel on FTA (at least all the ones I am aware of) is available on Foxtel.

The UK rain radar is forecasting rain until 10.30pm our time (lunch break). If thats the case, by the time they then dry the ground out, etc you will be lucky to start midway through the second session.
Draw looking good.
I've got 9:45pm (12:45pm local), with 7pm-9:45pm < 0.5mm an hour. Very different to a hard downpour until 10:30pm (1:30pm local).

They will get 50-60 overs in, unless Australia drop anchor the draw is out of the picture id say. It stays light in England and they can play very late, no cut off time until it’s too dark

England will win if we try to play for time imo.

Nah it went a bit beyond that. So too some of the ‘f*** off you c***’ directed at people just pointing out things like basic cricket rules etc.

I’ve been as prolific as anyone in history at a foul mouthed rant but some of the personal invective was pretty pathetic

I used to post on internet forums arguing with strangers on the internet at all hours over cricket. Staying up all night...living my life through the fortunes of the national team.

This was circa 2008 - 2010. Looking back, it was pathetic. Most of the players couldn't give a stuff 24 hours after the result as they move on to the next match, the next franchise team, or the next household chore.

In fact, as we saw after the Hobart test in 2022, most of the players stayed up all night drinking together.

This is no different to the wrestling..we all come in here taking the piss. Australian cricket has lost a lot of close games/big games since 2009 when our great era ended.

We have won some as well.

My advice would be to enjoy the cricket, but don't become emotionally invested to the degree that some do.

It has been constant, heavy rain from about 4am this morning. I live about 85 miles from Edgbaston and this is in for a good while yet. There is no wind to blow it through. They can work tooth and nail to dry out the outfield but this will not be playable until after 2pm if they are very lucky and there are no further delays.

When play does start, the outfield will be extremely heavy. It's a slow pitch, so we won't be getting many boundaries at all. A wet ball won't be of use to England either, but overhead conditions will.

My hunch is that we should shut up shop, and risk nothing in the first 30 minutes. If we survive that then reassess. See off Broad and then target the change bowlers with a wet ball as the sun peeps through and the cloud lifts.

Totally agree, but easier said than done. I don't listen to or read anything outside of match. It's not worth it. As soon as the lunch break arrives, I change the channel. I keep hearing how it's the most-anticipated Ashes series ever (they say it before every series), but I wouldn't know as I've cut myself off from the hype. It's the best way to be. Withdraw from it all and you realise how unimportant it actually is.

At least the heavy stuff is about to leave. Light drizzle till 12:30pm would give us a chance at a 2pm-7pm run of play. 50 overs maybe? 60 if they push it?

Most of the focus was put on how we were going to bowl but I couldn't shake that feeling that if we weren't going to come out on top of this series it would be more because of the batting.

It's still within reach though. Just need someone to fire with a couple of good supporting roles

I don’t get the hate for Broad he’s a fantastic bowler who gives it everything all the time.

A few years back Anderson and Broad were accused of being huge bullies in the England set-up. Almost running the team, making fieldsmen apologise for misfields...allegedly passing on info to a parody twitter account about KP.

Both are great bowlers. But they are easy to dislike for other reasons. I won't miss them when they eventually retire.

100%. You have to be a good loser if you are a sports fan, especially a cricket fan.

Agreed, I had an overwhelming need to correct people if they were ‘wrong’ and point out various whataboutisms etc etc and it took until fairly recently to realise how pathetic it can be.

Ironically because he was a cricketer I simply loathed for a long time, it was David Warner who started to change my perception about how we interact regarding sport: the guy might not be everyone’s cup of tea and that’s ok, no one is going to like everyone.

But to a few people he is their dad, their be all and end all and that’s what he will be regardless of what he does with a stick in his hand - and might I add he’s done that better than 90 per cent of his peers over the last dozen years. He’s just a person and he’s got a wife and kids that love him and if he stuffs up then so what: it makes him a human being.

Ollie Robinson as a virtual kid said some really horrible things related to race. I did the same thing when I was in my late teens. Then I fathered two amazing Aboriginal sons a few years later.

They’re just blokes chucking a ball at each other and while I love watching it, and shake my head at some of the carry on that occurs while they do it, I’ve finally after 40 years worked out that it really doesn’t matter and isn’t worth tying myself in knots over.

Really hope they get on tonight for long enough for a great finish.

100% chance of a draw, rain will take us through to halfway through 2nd session, then we just bat time.
Let's hope they are smart enough to realize the Poms have to win-we don't. I was stunned by Kawaja's loss of poise when Stokes set that umbrella field. I would have thought he'd say to himself, " Beauty- I will play like Bill Lawry for the next two hours, blocking and letting the pill go until they give up on their smart arsed field!" We have all the time in the world and no need to rush the game along. We hold the Ashes. Instead, he gave them exactly what they wanted. He made a great 140 but I was too pissed off to acknowledge his achievement at the time. Dumb, dumb cricket.
