Spent $300 all up on Day 1 of test , Pakistan ODI and NYE BBL. So the value's there. If you paid $95 for Friday membership was only just over $400 this year and you're sorted for all games.

Having it behind a paywall has been disastrous for interest.
We still had full houses through to 2006/07. As mentioned earlier, that was the season that security really clamped down and the wave and beach balls were banned. The following season was the last of the tri series as the writing was on the wall.Reckon ODI crowds at the MCG at least began to decline from the 1999/00 season onwards. The rise of T20 just excaberated that.
Also ODIs used to have the prime January slots that the BBL has now. Them being held this time of the year is also a factor in smaller crowds.
There's a disconnect between the pricing and how CA and the public see the product.I looked at best available for the G and it was 120.
30 for GA at the 38th over mark
I forgot it was on until I saw a CA advertisement a few days ago, either on TV or YouTubeI didn’t even know it was on so advertisement must have been non existent
That season was a bit of an outlier with England coming back for the first time since the 05 Ashes, the crowds were mad for almost all games. We still had full houses through to 2006/07. As mentioned earlier, that was the season that security really clamped down and the wave and beach balls were banned. The following season was the last of the tri series as the writing was on the wall.
It's accelerated the demise but things were already terminal. As I mentioned in an earlier post, ODIs haven't drawn big crowds since T20s started in the mid 2000s. There was an ODI against Sri Lanka at the MCG in 2011 that drew less than 20K and on TV it came across like there were more Sri Lankans in attendance than Australians.Having it behind a paywall has been disastrous for interest.
For the tri-series the opening match at the MCG was still huge in this period, but there were clear signs of weakness when the ground hosted one of the finals. We still had full houses through to 2006/07. Having it on free to air keeps it in people's consciousness, it's turned on almost unthinkingly by many and a good game or a controversy will be watercooler the next day. All that disappears when it's tucked away on Kayo and Fox.It's accelerated the demise but things were already terminal. ODIs were losing interest years before the Foxtel deal started but yeah I agree that it was a short-sighted decision from CA putting it all on Fox. Think of how 25 years ago John Eales and George Gregan were pretty much on the same level as Steve Waugh and Shane Warne and yet most of us today probably couldn't name a single Wallabies player.Having it on free to air keeps it in people's consciousness, it's turned on almost unthinkingly by many and a good game or a controversy will be watercooler the next day. I'm sure car dealerships still have those
or when you're getting a coffee from the Cafe Bar
cockroaches like thisI'm sure car dealerships still have those

they're all rubbish so wouldn't want to watch to try and name one.ODIs were losing interest years before the Foxtel deal started but yeah I agree that it was a short-sighted decision from CA putting it all on Fox. Just looking back at the records - the 97/98 crowds were very ordinary (relatively) at the G.For the tri-series the opening match at the MCG was still huge in this period, but there were clear signs of weakness when the ground hosted one of the finals.
Used to be guaranteed a full house but can recall as early as 97/98 a final against SA not reaching 50k. And the finals MCG hosted in 99/00 and 00/01 i think we're well short of 50k.

Dissapointed they let the Aussies dictate the game from the start hopefully they take a different approach if they bat first again. At least Pakistan made it past 200 but that probably won't be enough unless they can take some early wickets.
Just looking back at the records - the 97/98 crowds were very ordinary (relatively) at the G.
First game (17 Dec vs NZ) - 31k
Second game (21 Jan vs NZ) - 27k
Third game (23 Jan vs SA) - 44k
And yep - first final in 2000 vs Pakistan was 39k and the first final in 2001 vs WI was 32k. First final in 2005 was 27k. Compared with 75k for the first final in 1989.
So the decline was indeed already there around 2000.
