3 person commentary teams just wrapped up in their own self-importance and the need to leave no dead air.Every time I watch Fox Sports' 3-man commentary I'm reminded of Richie's economy of words... which inevitably leads me to 12th man Richie.
"Darryl (David), any chance of you shutting the **** up?"
No, am envious of their shade though. You on the waiting list for membership?
Reckon ODI crowds at the MCG at least began to decline from the 1999/00 season onwards. The rise of T20 just excaberated that.Yeah, it's been over 15 years since an ODI outside of the 2015 World Cup drew a crowd over 55K. Bringing up crowd sizes is like beating a dead horse at this point.
They must be aware that nobody in Australia outside the Warner household wants to hear from him. My only thought was they got him on because the Indian audience seem to love him, but they have their own commentary teams sent over here so Fox’s broadcast wouldn’t be shown there. Just a jobs for the boys situation I suppose.
Having it behind a paywall has been disastrous for interest.Reckon ODI crowds at the MCG at least began to decline from the 1999/00 season onwards. The rise of T20 just excaberated that.
Also ODIs used to have the prime January slots that the BBL has now. Them being held this time of the year is also a factor in smaller crowds.
Spent $300 all up on Day 1 of test , Pakistan ODI and NYE BBL. So the value's there. If you paid $95 for Friday membership was only just over $400 this year and you're sorted for all games.

We still had full houses through to 2006/07. As mentioned earlier, that was the season that security really clamped down and the wave and beach balls were banned. The following season was the last of the tri series as the writing was on the wall.Reckon ODI crowds at the MCG at least began to decline from the 1999/00 season onwards. There's a disconnect between the pricing and how CA and the public see the product.I looked at best available for the G and it was 120.

I forgot it was on until I saw a CA advertisement a few days ago, either on TV or YouTubeI didn’t even know it was on so advertisement must have been non existent
That season was a bit of an outlier with England coming back for the first time since the 05 Ashes, the crowds were mad for almost all games. We still had full houses through to 2006/07. As mentioned earlier, that was the season that security really clamped down and the wave and beach balls were banned. The following season was the last of the tri series as the writing was on the wall.
It's accelerated the demise but things were already terminal. As I mentioned in an earlier post, ODIs haven't drawn big crowds since T20s started in the mid 2000s. There was an ODI against Sri Lanka at the MCG in 2011 that drew less than 20K and on TV it came across like there were more Sri Lankans in attendance than Australians.Having it behind a paywall has been disastrous for interest.
For the tri-series the opening match at the MCG was still huge in this period, but there were clear signs of weakness when the ground hosted one of the finals. We still had full houses through to 2006/07. As mentioned earlier, that was the season that security really clamped down and the wave and beach balls were banned. The following season was the last of the tri series as the writing was on the wall.
Having it on free to air keeps it in people's consciousness, it's turned on almost unthinkingly by many and a good game or a controversy will be watercooler the next day. All that disappears when it's tucked away on Kayo and Fox.It's accelerated the demise but things were already terminal.
