Re: 1st Semi Final - Carlton v West Coast Sat 17th Sep at Patersons Stadium

Let's all bring our shovels then :D
Good on you Audrey. :thumbsu:

I also suggested he get U2 down to play at half time. Guess that didn't happen :( He used to work for one of the EPL clubs and they would do this sort of thing all the time for games.

Re: 1st Semi Final - Carlton v West Coast Sat 17th Sep at Patersons Stadium

I'm taking all the credit for this idea. I put this to the Hawthorn guy when we were invited down to Visy Park the other night. He said it couldn't be done coz the players have to train on the ground.... yeah right!! :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Have a look at the head wobble on AH!! :p

Re: Carlton vs. West Coast: NEXT WEEK

Kruzes form for the past few weeks (not including the Saints game where he still managed a mark and goal despite starting the game with his foot problem) has been no worse than say Garlett relative to the roles they play and we all saw how that ended up. Its not what he has or hasnt done but what he could do. Fitness IMO will be the only thing that keeps him out of the team. If he is fit, he will play regardless of so called form. (And if you think ignoring so called form sounds silly, why is it that so many have been hoping that Waite could make it back? Surely not on what his last few games have produced but what he could produce for us).
And players that get injured and miss one game because of it, dont need to re-prove their form, only their fitness, if they were good enough to play 2 weeks ago then drop a game due to injury then they are still good enough to play. Jamo also proved that.

I don't think his form or fitness bar perhaps his first 2 games back has been or is that great and I didn't expect it to neccessarily be so anyway.

He's been used fairly sparingly in the ruck for obvious reasons and as a big target forward has done little.

206 will run out of gas at Subi chasing their ruckmen around if it's just him and Setanta. NicNat has a history of towelling a fit Krueze up in the ruck let alone one who is underdone so my preference for this game if both Cox and Nicnat play and the mc want to take 2 ruckmen and Irish, is I'd like to see Hammer come in.

Nothing personal, just reckon Hammer would be a better in for this game.

Re: 1st Semi Final - Carlton v West Coast Sat 17th Sep at Patersons Stadium

Why are we ruling out MK? not listed on the injuries list....

Because his form over the last month hasn't warranted his position in the team and having two ruckmen who couldn't perform as forwards was really hurting our structure and creating weakness within our team. What we had against the Bombers where we had a main ruckman and a forward who went in there as a part timer is what you must have now that there is a 3 man bench.

Seriously who would you drop for Kreuzer? You'd have to drop Setanta who played well and gave us a hell of a lot more than Kreuzer has at full forward. Kreuzer and Setanta currently can't beat Cox and definately can't beat Naitanui in the ruck. The only inclusion we could bring in who can is Hampson and I'm not sure he would give us anymore than Setanta as a forward or what sort of condition he is in.

I don't think it is a good idea to play a ruckman as a substitute and in perth on that massive ground you want as many fast, fit, hard running types as you can get in your side. Going too tall and immobile will not help us at all.

It's hard to say what to do but bringing in Kreuzer whouldn't be the best option I assure you.

Reality was it was a great win against Essendon but we (a side in 5th who just missed 4th) played a side who just scraped into the 8. So really belting them was not the unlikely outcome. We are playing a team that finished above is in 4th spot that put up a great showing against the reining premiers last week.

There is no room for players who have not been performing. We can not afford to get things wrong.

The options are:

Kreuzer in - wouldn't have it, hasn't earnt his spot. We were trying to get him going and had given him every oppertunity to prove himself as a forward and he didn't do a lot. Would still get beaten by Naitanui and Cox in the center bounces.

Hampso in - yeah he kicked 6 in the VFL but I am prettu sure Setanta has done this plenty of times. Big difference to an AFL finals match and VFL. Setanta was very good. Thornton was also very good. only Davies could make way for him and this breaks our structure. On the plus side he could give us that crucial advantage in the center ball ups when Warnock rests.

Bower in - Would replace Davies. Reliability is a worry. Does he have VFL form? They have 3 big guys up forward, we might need a 3rd tall. He'd be a handy sub.

Not sure we'd make any changes. Can't see us bringing in another ruckman. There just isnt a spot and having plenty of runners is the key to perth.

Haha nuh good on you, I read a few suggestions of the same thing on TC a while back..people like the idea!

Reckon they'll get around 5-10 thousand?

Re: 1st Semi Final - Carlton v West Coast Sat 17th Sep at Patersons Stadium

Out: Davies
In: Hammertime or Special K

Cannot risk going into a clash with the eagles with only one ruckman, also this would mean if lose a defender Irish or T Bird can go back if need be.

Irish probably has to be the sub and or the second ruckman.

Re: 1st Semi Final - Carlton v West Coast Sat 17th Sep at Patersons Stadium

we need to drop a tagger. Joesph to be the sub, davies out, hampson in.

Love matty, but he is not fit. At least Hampson is fit, and yes the standard is different to VFL our strength is on th ground, so at worst he can bring the ball to ground, at best hold on to a few.

If it wasnt the eagles, I would bring matty back, but their height poses problems for us.

Re: 1st Semi Final - Carlton v West Coast Sat 17th Sep at Patersons Stadium

This is it peeps.

In will be Hammer (more likely due to form/confidence and less injury concern) or Kreuz (less like likely due to form plateau and foot question marks)

Out will be Davies as he provides less than all others and that he would not contribute to a win over WC to the extent that Hammer/Kreuz could.

Sub will be either Joseph or Army, but I am leaning towards Armfield as Joseph has played specific roles recently and played them well, growing in confidence. Not saying Army hasn't played his well, but I think that his run will provide a kick in the last third of the game when everything opens up.

Finally, I think we will win because the positivity, reduced pressure and self-belief will culminate to produce an attitude that I feel will give the boys a massive boost.
We know we play well interstate, we know we play well at Subi, we know that we were depleted last time we met.

I am quietly confident we'll get them, they went very hard and had to travel this week.
But regardless of the result, the dark times are officially over and we can now look ahead to more finals wins in the near future!

Re: 1st Semi Final - Carlton v West Coast Sat 17th Sep at Patersons Stadium

I think our last game means next to nothing really.
Jamison*, Laidler, Duigan, Robinson, Joseph and O'hAilpin didn't play.
Henderson and T-Bird are both playing well which should decrease the sizable gap their KPP had over us.

We played good for about 15 minutes and piled on the goals. That game was during the period where our workload at training was lifted.

WC Fans - These aren't excuses for losing. You were the better side. It's just where I believe our improvement is going to come from. I'm sure you'll have improved also.

* Jamo did play. Injured, subbed off.

Re: 1st Semi Final - Carlton v West Coast Sat 17th Sep at Patersons Stadium

No Change.

This will be a war and we need 3 runners on the bench, not another ruckman.

In every final so far, the big blokes have been the difference. We need another ruckman so we can combat the best ruck duo in the league whilst having a constant tall option up forward.

Thus:
In Hammer
Out Davies

I agree that we need to bring hammer in to combat cox & nic nat and secondly if Cox struggles during the game we can take advantage of that and run Nic Nat off his feet.

disgree, hampson is no slouch on the track.

I back our runners against theirs, but their height could be a concern.

I'm not sure what EPL games he's referring to but I've been to a bunch and the only entertainment I ever saw was kids taking penalties

Re: 1st Semi Final - Carlton v West Coast Sat 17th Sep at Patersons Stadium

When was the last home and away game we had 3 talls in the team? and were we successful?

Not sure but can remember plenty of games where our two talls don't function well and we get carved up...West Coast earlier in the year especially!

I think it was more to do with our forward line Zeeman. The WC game mid season was a shocker...even my little boy wanted to leave at 3 qtr time..The boys wont repeat that incident again.

3 talls is a little worrying because we havent tried this combo for a while..

Yeah I was talking about the WCE game..shocking day for all :(

Did Robbo play that match?

The question really should be; When was the last time we had three in-form talls in the team?
If George W believes that man and fish can co-exist, then I believe that Warnock, O'hAilpin and Hampson can.

Kreuzer is very unlikely. Has anyone got a screen shot of Kreuzer at the game? Boy, did he look glum. :(

davies was our sub. which running player would make may from our 21 yesterday?

Re: 1st Semi Final - Carlton v West Coast Sat 17th Sep at Patersons Stadium

Eagles supporters think their talls are god's gift to football. If they all play lets pay them in kind.

Imagine Hammer and Irish crashing around the forward line with Eddie, Jeff, Walks and Robbo to mop up.

Apparently Glass could hardly walk after the Pies game because of his groins.
