Just listene3d to Wayne Clark and Kim Hughes talking about this. the ACB went away from clearly a winning system to embrace a money system. That comes at a cost which we are seeing regularly. None of our test team should of been part of the ODI or T20 series against the Pakistanis. All our test players should of played 3 shield games each.

lol. No he wasn’t. He was 70 kilos during his playing days and only got close to ‘nuggety’ by the time he was in his mid to late 30s.

Always will be an outlier, Maxwell might be remembered in 30 years because of his one freak innings also. But will never be seen as an australian cricket great will he. Just as Bevan isn't.

I do like how Langer is apparently some bulking afl player or something. Why do we need a Hayden type or something they are exceptions than the norm.
I made my 8 year old nephew bowl to me for 4 hours in heat yesterday (I counted my own runs and ended up on well over 1000) and by the end he was still sending down deliveries with more effort than Mitch marshs 118kph powder puffs

One of the massive elephants in the room for me is Cummins' Captaincy.
He absolutely handed Kohli that ton last night, and also handed the declaration to Bumrah at the same time.
Runs didn't matter, time did and there is no way on Earth Bumrah would've declared on Kohli if he didn't get the hundred.
There was zero attempt to keep Kohli away from strike, Reddy was just allowed to knock zero pressure singles and rotate Kohli onto strike. The field should've been right in for Reddy - who cared if he hit over the top and got boundaries? It would've kept Kohli off strike and maybe he wouldn't have had enough time to get the ton.
And maybe we wouldn't have had to bat on a hiding to nothing for 20 minutes.
If you try nothing then that's exactly what you'll get.
It's not the first time Cummins has trod on his dick for mine.
Great bowler, very ordinary Captain. Problem though is the same as all the others we have - if not him then who else?

Because apparently bowlers with an average of 19 and 180 test wickets in 40 tests will be intimidated by bulky bodies with batting averages of 30.

I don't think he was ever small and skinny looking. And didn't play well early on either.
Fact is Australian sides have had better batting success with imposing players opening.
Batting averages this WTC period:
Khawaja 39.7
Marnus 27.4
Smith 33.5
Head 27.9
Marsh 44.5
Green 36.8
Carey 27.8
Pretty diabolical. We lost a home test to the Windies during that period and the results in England and against Pakistan flattered us - could have lost a number of those tests. Carey/Marsh dug in amazingly to save our bacon vs NZ.
I'm not sure of the exact numbers we'd need, but even if we fail badly against India we might still be in the hunt for the WTC final against Sri Lanka? It would be stupid to go full AFL-style rebuild while we can still qualify for the final, but from next year we need major renewal and it's hard to even know who is worthy of continued selection.
Khawaja - gotta take him to Sri Lanka if we're still in the WTC
Marnus - if form holds, he's better off spending the late summer in the Shield
Head - so reliable in ODI cricket, but his test form is a huge concern
Smith - a huge, huge concern...
Marsh - weirdly the best record of the lot, but always an injury or reversion to mean away from becoming a liability...
Carey - one of the most in-form batsmen in the country and huge for us in NZ - Inglis is going to be added soon enough as a batsman so he needs to keep delivering.

He isn’t bulky whatever way you look at it. We aren’t picking a bloke just because they are tall we will pick them as they can bat! Being tall has zero to do with being a good bat. Smith is hardly some hulking bloke, Sachin Tendulkar wasn’t either.

O’Neil for me wand this is a gut feel is purely one for English conditions saw him more in that A game and if he was more than 130-132kmph I’d be shocked. Buckingham was the most impressive in that series for quicks. I’d at least have him around the squad
