It’s a shit argument even without the fact that Bancroft was given a good run at test level and failed.

If you are good enough you just keep scoring runs. He went through the exact same patch a couple of years ago getting out super early. He’s just not a consistent batsman who does have runs of form but nothing shows us he is good enough for test.

Yes Haydos averaged 60 for nearly a decade before he became the regular opener in the Australian side.

Usman has never talked anyone out of anything is my vibe.

Mcsweeney probably said I reckon I prefer to face. Usman nodded and said all good bro.

It’s just a little thing but at the moment every decision and non decision is going to be scrutinised. From the physio, dietician, people who carry the bags etc

He seems pretty unimaginative as a fielding captain. In Manchester in 2023 he just let the game drift away and there was a hangdog feel about the team. Some really loose bowling, lots of no balls and byes, no discernible plan, poor energy. His own bowling was a big problem. All of this was prevalent yesterday.

I suppose sometimes the oppo just get you by the scruff of the neck sometimes and there's not a lot you can do. But it all got a bit sloppy and directionless. That's on everyone but especially the captain.

Whoever directed green to bowl short outside off and let stokes have free swings should have been dragged out and shot. Can’t remember if that was Manchester. We got lucky when stokes got tired but it was the worst tactics I think I’ve seen from an Australian team against a bloke who has no ability to hit straight was just insanity.

I'm old enough to remember well before 1991.

Captaincy when you're fielding is VERY important. Very.

I don't know if he's not listening or if no-one's suggesting anything to him, but that last 30-45 minutes of their 2nd innings was an absolutely gutless display. And Patrick is where that buck stops.

My point being was this, people think Steve Waugh and Ponting were great captains, I don’t really think they were, they just had great sides.

The best tactical captains I’ve seen watching Australia are Taylor and Clarke. But both those guys were captains when we had days in the field like yesterday.

Pitch now basically tailor made for Bumrah to wreak havoc on us. If Smith goes early we could be in for a very quick day.

Hopefully that doesn't happen and a few of our guys can at least take some form into Adelaide. Reducing the size of the loss from 400 to sub-200 would also have some psychological benefit you'd think.

I think outside of Clarke our captains this century on field have been basically interchangeable. No real imagination or thinking on their feet, all about the pre planning and just keep cycling through the different plans they had discussed pre match.

I can't see there being much of a crowd there today with it being a Monday and with this match a chance to be over by lunch.

There will no doubt be some Indian supporters turning up there to celebrate a win though.
Quite a few Indian supporters should turn out to see their side knock over the Aussies in Australia. They need a little over 13,000 for this to be the biggest combined total to attend a Test in Perth.

Clarke was a terrible captain. Yes he had some good tactics but his man management was diabolical. Oh and he somehow let dhoni make 224.

Taylor was great at both tactics and management however Ponting was the best man manager of the lot. By far.

There’s a reason he is always injured and rarely plays at home. BCCI manage him superbly to ensure he is good for the marquee series.
Think they only rested him for the Mumbai test against NZ when the series was already done. He played every other home test against NZ, Bangladesh and England this year.
