I THOUGHT BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT WENT OT THE BATSMAN.

The mark was already there.

I don't think it was, but you couldn't see the bat beforehand as his leg/pad was covering it.

The bat swings past it at the same point as the ball so you only see the after shot. Wasn't a clear mark for edge, but just that a mark was there.

The audio check was the thing that confirmed it to the 3rd umpire. You can hear some sound as the ball went past the bat.
