Kramer - point is that everyone agrees Thornton's not capable of playing 1-on-1 vs bigger forwards - yet this is a task expected of bigger defenders. He's played some good footy in recent weeks, yet time and again gets found out (Jamar - WTF??). I know Carlton fans can't stand Nick Maxwell but truth is he's just about the prototype cut off player. Carlton is screaming out for a player of this quality - fearless, some shit in him and QUICKLY breaks the line with run and accurate disposal. Sooner we're able to put genuine stoppers on quality power forwards and replace Thornton with a better option, the deeper we'll go into September.

We also must address some ridiculous game-plans such as conceding time and space to the opposition bringing the ball out of their defence. Why do we talk about F50 pressure then concede 1/2 the ground??
We need to improve our skills - footy is about possession and we've got some of the worst deliverers in the game. Quality disposal and game-breaking runs from Mcleod and Goodwin, Gilbee, Fisher, Gilbert sets up goals and creates more F50 preswsure than anything else.

I posted recently about the success of Carlton's forwards playing alongside Fev - he WAS selfless last night but in order to create a successful forward structure, the dynamics of the F50 will need to change somewhat.

Just a few observations....

Some excellent points, particulary the one about lack of pressure in front half.

I would still like to see Yarran played off half back.

Our list is not lacking much, it is more game style & tactics we are well off the pace.

I want us to go all out to get Laidley.

Spot on :thumbsu:

If Barry Hall was playing for the Blues last night we would have won. Brisbane wouldn't have been able to contain him and Fev. For christs sake he is only a year older than Bradshaw and he goes alright. Carlton should seriously consider trading for him...averaged 3 goals a game this year.

If Kruze had have kicked that goal on the run we would have won......... If my aunty had balls, she would be my uncle.........

We finally need to get rid of Thornton, there are enough stupid people that think he is a good player so we may be able to get value for him. Last night showed he is no match for quality opposition
I see you haven't got any smarter since you last posted here.

Laidley is done and dusted across the line and will be at port next year. Go alright to as port are on the change train and the broom is out of the closet.

While some of you are salivating at the all-you-can-eat slops bar of trade week, keep in mind that we won't pick up anyone we can't get five years out of. That's long standing policy now.

Troy Simmonds? He's in the beau-marie with the brussels sprouts.

The draft this year is weak as has been predicted. The strength will be in the trade period (unlike years gone by), and also the preseason draft. You will see alot of clubs passing in the later picks, choosing to hold their cards until the preseason. it is a year to spend on proven young players and to deal over the trade week, it will be busy.

Our first rnd pick should be put on the table if there is a quality KPP available for sale from another club under 25 years of age ...

I am open minded to trying to get a decent player from another club, even if it costs us our first rnd pick.

Richo (not quite under 25 but okay for another couple)+ Cleve Hughes for your first pick:thumbsu:

does any1 genuinely think we could be a big player in trade week? cos we have to be if we are going to take the next step, we desperately need another key forward, a quality/accountable inside midfielder and maybe another backman, although i think our backline will be on the right track when jammo and waite come back

Sorry for repeating this (posted elsewhere)

Port have said they would look at any trade:
Burgoyne is reportedly unhappy at Alberton; Sydney and Hawthorn already making noises in his direction.
Trengove; yet to play AFL but has played few games in the SANFL after his knee reco. Has impressed with his strength, speed and marking power. A 197cm mongrel that likes the hard stuff with skill to boot. Will take Port a lot of convincing but worth a look. Was touted as a top 5 draft pick last year but slipped through to 20 after his knee injury.

Reckon we should have a crack at Jordan Lewis. Hawthorn are expected to be big players in trade week, and they might just be willing to trade him considering he is their third-ranked inside mid (behind Sewell and Mitchell). Is young enough to have a real career at Carlton and his tough style would round out our midfield nicely. Can't quite decide what I'd give up for him though...

I think that carlton need 2 get rid of BOWER he is useless, Just see the way he played on saturday night against Brisbane. Fevola ROCKS :thumbsu:

This could be a good option, assuming he comes at a bargain basement price.

Would allow Carlton enough time to develop our younger defenders.

What allow us one year to develop them, Max is Gone thats why he isnt playing for the Aints, A big pass.

Robbo could add to our forward line for 2 years and pay him match payments.

Goose would be ok as long as we didnt pay over the odds for him.

Hansen, as much as i think he is a spud, he could be the spud to get us over the line in games like last night.

I think u may be right about Robbo and Hansen but we will have 2 see what the drafts show and see what 2010 brings them

Sewell is the exact player we need at Carlton IMO. I know we wont get him, but I reckon he'd fit into our midfield perfectly. Lewis isn't a bad idea either, has got some mongrel about him, but I think it's unlikely.

I like the idea of getting Shaun Burgoyne over to the club, he is an elite and rare talent.

Would pick ten be enough to satisfy Port ?? (I suspect not)
And should we actually be willing to trade away our first pick for a ready made star player (I say yes)
