Is Houlihan to Hodge really worth the trade?

Yeah - i reckon it is!

Houlihan has a new role of playing as a tagging forward - have followed this for the last 3 weeks - and it is time to flick him.

I think Hodge has great upside - with Gilham and Murphy to work their way back into the side (and Croad maybe in a month) - Hodge will be freed up to not play a key defensive post (actually on someone) and play his role of playing on no-one again.

This week I might be doing these trades:

Dangerfield --> Anthony OR M Brown --> Ballantyne
Pearce --> Bartel OR Sidebottom --> Brennan OR Dangerfield --> Kornes

Which two should I do?

I need a cheap downgrade defender.

I still have Raines in my side, want to downgrade him to give me enough cash to upgrade Rich to Bartel.

WHO WHO WHO is a cheap defender? The list of 86k rookies isn't that enticing!
Clancee Pearce.

Although he had a bit of a hamstring problem during the game, so watch out.

If Clancee gets named this week he is in for Raines and that will give me enough to drop Warren for Didak.

If he is not named, then I've got enough to do Warren to J.Brown

Surprised that Franklin is still the most popular player with 126K selections. Why are people holding onto him? Only cracked the tonne once and that was way back in round 1. Looks a shadow of the player he was last year. Surely you need to cut your losses and get rid of your dogs at some point?

I'm very VERY tempted to get rid of Franklin but... I have Dale Thomas too so if I wanted to get rid of anyone, he'd be the obvious choice... But the trouble is, Dale Thomas is actually better than Franklin atm, I don't know what to do!

Going to have to decide between two choices this week

S.Johnson and Ellis
or
A.Davey and T.Lockyer

Leaning towards the first option

Good problem to have as both are winners, but I'd go A. Ellis will kill it from here on in IMO.

I'm in serious need of advice. 1st yr player (migrated across from SC), am 2nd on my ladder but have a tough run home. 8 trades, bugger-all cash ($7k)

B: Goddard, Lockyer, Enright, Gilbee, Houlihan, Grimes, Broughton (Suban, Cheney)
M: Ablett, Bartel, Gibbs, Kornes, Selwood, Haselby (Muston & Anthony)
R: Petrie, Tippett (Jacobs, Spencer)
F: Franklin, Deledio, Goodwin, N Brown, Pavlich, SJ, Ziebell (Walker, Sidebum)

Ultimately, I need to turn Tippett > Cox, and would prefer not to be playing Walker (with Ziebell's injury). Am happy enough (for now) with playing Grimey & Broughton.

Should I this week:

a) focus on Rucks: downgrade, then Tippett > Cox; or
b) focus on forwards: downgrade, then Walker > Riewoldt (or the like)??

This week im thinking of trading C.Chornes to Pearce or Grima as he is only on my bench anyways and then using the money to upgrade M.Brown to Didak. Any thoughts on these trades?

A.

You need your rucks to be as solid as possible, as soon as possible, and you can't go better than big Cox.

Also worth noting that you have two playing subs in your forward line, so you could just play Sidey or Walker until a good upgrade/downgrade target for Ziebs comes along.

Looking at getting Geary out this week. Was going to do it last week but thought the bad score would be a one off. Was going to do Geary to Ellis - very disappointed I didn't.

I'm currently playing Geary Grimes and Broughton (Chad on the bench) When Chad is back one of these 3 will be my 7th back if I do the Geary trade. If I don't will be playing 2 of the 3 for the rest of the year.

Have about 40k in the bank and this will be my final trade barring LTI's cause I'm running very low.

Thoughts on Geary to Ellis or Geary to Hodge. I like Ellis' scoring potential but will Hodge get back to his best. Is at a very appealing price right now.

Will leave my final side as:

Fisher, Cornes, Lockyer, Mackie, Bock, Ellis/Hodge, Broughton (Grimes, Petrenko)

Ablett, Bartel, Swan, Gibbs, J Selwood, Muston (hartlett, DeBoer)

Cox, HMac (Jacobs, Browne)

Riewoldt, S Johnson, Pavlich, Deledio, Gia, Higgins, ROK (Walker, W Thompson)

Thoughts? Hodge or Ellis?

Most people probably figure that considering so many others have him that it softens the blow a bit when he scores poorly (because 126k others will feel it too).

Then there's the fact that people have been plagued with injuries this year. Most people would be looking to cover a definite 0 rather than a possible 32.

And finally Fingale's Law that states ''anything that can go wrong, will- at the worst possible moment''. People are probably worried that his price has dropped too much to trade him out now and that the moment they do will be the round he'll find form again and start throwing out the 150's we know he's capable of.

Same goes with Fevola (who thankfully didn't cost as much and has put out some nice big scores).

what do people think of bringing in hodge now his below 300k

thinking of upgrading grimes to him which will only cost about 30k

worth it or a waste?

what do you think you will gain from the trade drinker? will hodge average 5 points per game more? 10 points per game? is that worth a trade or are there other area's that you could improve on first?

grimes is averaging 82 and hodge 74, so it would seem like a wasted trade and 30k unless you expect a major jump from hodge

Have 6 trades left and only $25K in the bank but I need to upgrade a forward.
Will be downgrading either D Kerr (Walters) or A Graham (Pyke) so I can upgrade one of Krak Walker or Sidebottom to a premium forward.

Krak would give me slightly more options, i.e. anyone other than Reiwoldt (probably Chapman) but he may come back in this week and do ok? If I trade Walker or SS I will have to chose between Brown David and Didak.
Thoughts.

Ah, but chad, that is what he is averaging if you've had him all year (or since his first game).

If you brought Grimes in before game one = Ave 77.8
If you brought Grimes in after Game One = Ave 71.6
If you brought Grimes in after Game Two = Ave 65.75

With an average of just 66 over the last 4 games I think i would be starting to have a few doubts about grimes being a keeper. He would surely have more to rise, however it may take a few weeks of solid scores as his Current BE is 83 (according to FF).

Its a tough decision.

What do people plan on having left over in the bank for injuries?

This week:
Beams > Anthony
Brown > Pavlich

Next week:
Sidebottom>Ballantyne
Cheney > Hodge/Bock/Carrazzo/Ellis

That's where my decision comes in, with that final trade as too how much money is left over. If i go for someone around 350k I will have virtually 0$ left however if I choose Hodge I will be able to have 50k in the bank.

apart from grimes i just need to upgrade steele in the forwards and muston/hartlett in the midfields, i have 7 trades left so if i was going to upgrade grimes to a keeper.. now would be the time as hodge is as low as he will go and it looks like he has overcome the injury

Fair enough, good answer.

What do you think about this:

Geary --> Hodge
I reckon Geary to Hodge is a good trade. Come the finals, I would much rather Hodge in my back line than Geary.
Does anyone think Broughton is good enough to be a keeper (7th best back)? In 5 games, his lowest score is 59, he’s scored > 100 twice, and averages 83. I was going to trade Houlihan for Hodge and make Broughton my emergency, but maybe I should play Broughton every week, trade Houlihan for (say) Clancee and upgrade a forward to Reiwoldt. Thoughts on Broughton?
