2009 Trade Discussion Part 9

For those who are trading out Grimesy.

Ive locked iN Enright... averages around 95 against next two opponents and is consistent. Not sure if this helps everyone. Gram was my second choice with lockyer being my 3rd. I was short on coin or Embley would be another good pickup IMO

Grimes -> Gram/Lockyer/Duffield?

I would lean towards Gram, purely for the fact that the Saints have their last 2 games against weak opponents in NM and Melb, so he is more likely to score higher than the other two.

Does anyone know the severity of SJ's injury. Are the Cats likely to keep him out next week as well and save him for the finals? Or is it just a one weeker?

well I ended up going Grimes -> Enright, now with 1 trade left I have anthony playing wonder if I should upgrade him to montagna or do hartlett whose on the bench to mid worth $415k.

OK so this is my team ...

Hodge, Drummond, Broughton, H. Taylor, Goddard, Cornes, Grimes (Quinn, Petrenko)
Gibbs, Bartel, Ablett, Selwood, Judd, Cooney (Anthony, Muston)
Riewoldt, Deledio, Didak, Franklin, Higgins, Roughead, S. Johnson, (Ballantyne, T. Walker)

Have two trades left and approx. $125k left. What does everyone here think I should do considering there are major doubts over the seasons of Grimes, Roughead and SJ.

You have to trade out Roughead. I would also trade out Grimes and put Ballantyne on the field this week because SJ will probably play next week.

Yeah I was thinking that but a lot depends on whether Steve Johnson will play Round 22, I reckon.
SJ has a lot higher chance of playing in round 22 than Grimes. Why would Melbourne bring him back for just round 22? They wont his season's over. SJ is a chance of playing however.

Yeah definately trading out Grimes.

However the decision is whether to swap Johnson for any forward, or go with Roughead for a forward under $370k.

SJ out, one trade left has me thinking.

Have 70k in the bank so my only real options are ROK, Davis and Goodwin.

ROK looks my best bet with Collingwood and the Lions to go.

He scored 149 agaisnt the pies earlier in the year and could easily do the same this time around.

Im just trying to balance up whether or not i want to use the trade this week as i do have cover in balla and hentschel.

After my worst year to date in DT, i am shocked i have made it to the preliminary in 1 of my leagues and it being the one where the two people who make the grand final are in the money (1st prize $100, 2nd prize $50 from an entry fee of $10)

Here's my team:
Goddard, Lockyer, Mackie, Hodge, SFisher, Houlihan, Broughton
(Grimes AND Suban EMG)

Gibbs, Selwood, Boyd, Gablett, Anthony, Rich
(Coughlan AND Hartlett EMG)

Sandilands and Hmac
(NicNat EMG if needed AND Spencer)

Deledio, Davey, Pavlich, Franklin, Higgins, Petrie, Ballantyne
(Stevie J *PAIN* AND Mitch Brown)

2 Trades and 11.7K Left in the Salary Cap

After much debating, i really dont know. But my main aim is taking it a week at a time and my opponent is copping a donut in the backs and also has Swan who i dont have. Also seeing as the extra cash from Callum Wilson to a 75ker wont make a diff in whose available to me in premium mids, ive gone with Wilson.

Option 1 (Brown no chance to play anymore this season but have to start 1 of Ballantyne or Callum Wilson as Stevie J is out)
OUT Mitch Brown, Coughlan
IN Callum Wilson, <414k mid *Lenny Hayes*
(I reckon Hayes is the best option at 407k *what i have to spend* or under including Bartel and Corey)

Option 2 (Stevie J could return next week but i have Brown sittin on the pine)
OUT Stevie J, Coughlan
IN Callum Wilson, Swan

Option 3
OUT Grimes, Coughlan
IN Unknown (not needed backman, just get a cheap playing guy like Wilson) and Swan

Option 4
OUT Stevie J, Coughlan
IN Bradshaw, 407k mid or less like Hayes

Leaning towards Option 4 as even tho i wont get Swan, i will have better cover for Stevie J/my 7th fwd with Ballantyne cover and then all id be worrying about is the difference between the scores of Swan and Hayes

Any advice appreciated
Thanks

Quick question for everyone: On averages I look like getting through by about 50 points in my prelim, however, I have no idea if my opponent has any trades left and with SJ and Roughead as zeros he may be able to pull some nice trades on me (atm ballantyne and hentschel are covering).

So…. should I

a) Hold my last 2 trades for the GF and back myself to get through (with ballantyne covering SJ) or….

b) go grimes->hurley (or back under 240,300, personally think he’s the best option and he'll be bench cover anyway)
and SJ->Chapman

I’m reasonably confident of the win but will kick myself if I miss out by 20 points.

This is where you weigh up where you could stand after this weekend if you do not use the trades.

1) You win and have 2 trades in hand, ur looking great for the grand final.

2) You lose by the smallest margin and are kicking yourself as you now have 2 useless trades and your side is not in the grand final.

Lol i have had to weigh it up and although my mind is on the prize of getting into the grand final, its just too risky with Stevie J being out to sit by and think yes i should be fine.

Id consider making the trades, weigh up all your options besides Chapman (though hes a great choice)

No Slide Title OK, 1 trade left, $55K in the bank.

Injury to SJ is making me think I should just use my last trade and try to make the GF (my opponent doesn't have SJ and has a formidable team). What do you think - make the trade or play Ballantyne and hope I get through (and SJ plays next week)

Team is:
No Slide Title Goddard, Lockyer, Enright, Hargrave, Mundy, Fisher, Broughton, Fisher (Houligan, Petrenko)
Gibbs, Bartel, Selwood, Ablett, Cornes, Swan (Anthony, Sidebottom)
McIntosh, Petrie (Graham, Spencer)
Deledio, Pavlich, Franklin, Goodwin, Higgins, Thomas, Ballantyne, ( SJ,Hogan)

If I trade SJ, players I can afford are: Neon Leon, Fevola, Davey, Aker,

One question:

Last Trade:

Haselby to Bartel

OR

Rich to Bartel?

Haslelby has shown he can have huge scores when given the gametime (dont know whats happening there cos he was killing it in the first half against melb) and Rich lately has been copping harder tags and getting anywhere from 60-100.

Rich has Port and Sydney in Rds 21 and 22 (Earlier this year: 52 and 84)
Hasleby has Essendon and Geelong (Earlier this year: 75 and 85)

It could go eitherway but won't Hasleby be giving his all for that 2 year contract?

Haha thanks mate, those are the exact scenarios going through my head right now. I get the feeling many others are in the same situation... the only thing from preventing me making the trades is that I don't trust Chappy's health when he is coming straight back from injury.

Re. other options, here's my team:

Goddard, Newman, Mackie, Chad, Hodge, Broughton, Fisher (Grima, Grimes)

Swan, Selwood, Gibbs, Ablett, Kornes, Bartel (Anthony, Muston)

Hmac, Petrie

Roo, Davis, SJ, Franklin, Didak, Pavlich, Deledio (Ballantyne, Macaffer->what a terrible trade that was!)

So of the others available I'd probly go ROK. I like the fact that the opponent I expect to be in the GF has chappy though (I'd probly trade him in next wk for franklin if i don't trade this round)

@ kooljp

I'm with Adam, could pretty much toss a coin between those two. Maybe look at if your opponents have one of them? If i had to choose it'd be Hasleby....

If ROK's in your price range, id be leaning towards him before Chapman.
In saying that Chapman will pull a 150 out of nowhere, then be withdrawn from the team for Stevie J next week

Any advice for my dilemma on the previous page? Really leaning towards Option 4 and i feel bad that my post was such a monster post in length lol

What an annoying amount of money you have to spend lol, no offence! Have you considered Rioli and S.Thompson/Priddis/Kornes?

I just don't like Bradshaw much (i.e. his scoring. Plus I have a DT rule that I never buy JB if Bradshaw is playing - bit unfair on him probly hehe)
