Great game by Cam, he was extracting the ball finding space and dishing it out nicely. Could be a potential replacement for Thommo when he hangs the boots up?

What we are seeing with CEY is something id hoped we would under not only Walsh but the entire new coaching structure.

We all know what the Sloanes, Talias, Dangers etc of this world are capable of but its that next tier of players like this guy, Lyons, Grigg and even Atkins and Knight when fit that we need to stand up and bring their level closer to those first group. No one expects them to be stars but an even spread of contributions alongside the guns is what we need.

It was felt by many that these guys were largely ignored by our last senior coach but with a new group of very experienced mentors it will give them all that added confidence by saying 'If you perform you will get opportunities'.

Its all about him and the others playing to their strengths and having coaches advising them on how to do so.

For mine, CEY seems to show improvement every time I see him.

He knows how to find the footy, does good work in close, is a great size, has great athleticism and I don't think his kickings any worse than a few others out there and I think it will improve once he settles at the level.

Has a high potential ceiling and we don't have many with his athletic profile. IMO worth getting a few games into to see what happens.

Looks like he can now run out an AFL game

If CEY improves his kicking, we have unearthed the complete player.
Freebies like that are golden. If Jaensch can maintain the form from his 2014 resurrection and CEY can translate PS form to the season proper thats a huge win. Almost like two new recruits.

Did you hear David Teague (forward coach) talk about Wrighty during the week.

He's in for round 1 - all but guaranteed.
For whatever reason Wright gets no credit on this board.

Been very surprised with CEY, thought they should have delisted him at the end of last year, now he should be named to play come round 1.

For a very long time I've been itching to see this lad play, and finally I've seen a bit of him in the NAB Cup Showdown on Saturday 21 March 2015. Going by what I've seen - very, very impressed. Some serious spark and flair in the congested packs....and he's got some serious toe (pace). But I've read a few comments about his kicking being a real problem. I was a bit mesmerised by his in-close work, so perhaps this was the reason for me not seeing his kicking skills - good or bad. If people say his kicking is a problem, then I won't argue. But this is something that no-doubt the Coaching Panel will all have to weigh up. Has he earnt a spot for Round 1? I'd give that a very tentative yes, but if his alleged poor kicking skills don't lift, then his spot in the side needs to be questioned. On this whole issue, it's always a helluva lot easier (although not as pleasant for the player) to improve their "general fitness and conditioning" than it is to improve technical skills. Improving pure speed (not general fitness) is also very hard to improve as well, but this is something this lad doesn't have a great issue with.

In a round-a-bout sorta way, almost any athlete can improve their long-distance running, cycling, swimming, rowing (etc.) times and general conditioning considerably, but the improvements you can make in pure sprinting speed and technical skills aren't massive.

This has all got to be considered by the Coaching Panel with regards to Cameron Ellis-Yolman.

I find it amusing reading the review of the first nab game against north Melbourne and some of the comments directed at CEY.

I don't think he's game that day was half as bad as people making out

....does he have the endurance to run with the games best midfielders? which is why Walsh has put him in the middle for the entire of both the games so far, next week will be the same, Walsh is testing his endurance.

Good point, but improving your engine (i.e. endurance) is, in relative terms, the easiest thing any player can do....in any sport. Not at all saying Cameron has (or will have) the endurance to be a regular Midfielder, but improvements can be made. And if he's got sore legs/injury - then pool and bike work is the answer.

Ill admit, i had him penciled in to be delisted. Lucky it was only pencil!

Fired out a few good handballs in tight situations which were impressive I'll admit, but all of a sudden everyone's forgotten just how BAD his kicking was and still is. It's like the men in black have stormed through half this board.

Has not improved his kicking since day dot. Great athlete, good in close, but that's where the story ends. People are always complaining about our kicking from players like Danger, let alone bloody CEY and how that we can't have lyons/thommo/wright/Bob all in the same side, but yet all of a sudden CEY is coming into calculations.

Yeah he has one thing all of those players don't, pace, but it's useless having pace to break lines if you're just going to shank it half the time.

More than happy to continue giving him opportunities, let him grow into his role. Who knows, it may be a confidence thing? CEY naturally he looks like a silky, skillful type, but his kicking just isn't. Maybe if we give him a run and he comes out of shell it may fix itself over time? Who knows. But people need to taper back their expectations.

This guy needs another full game against port please walsh.

I have got to make it clear that top shelf kicking skills are a must at AFL level, no question about it. But the Crows' lack of pace in the open, outside the congestion, has been one of the biggest contributors to our plummet down the Ladder recently. Before opposition players even get their hands on the footy, they know in big, bold, letters that most Crows players just won't catch them, so a lot of opposition teams are opting for run-carry-handball tactics against the Crows. If you have a slow opposition, kick the ball less and make them chase you when carrying the pill - this is exposing the Crows again and again.

I'm not saying having some serious pace around the paddock should equate to an immediate spot in the side, far from it, but for goodness sake....more priority must be given to it. Overall, most of our small, ground-level players are classy, inside ball-winners....but are slow and just cannot chase. This is all good and well when we do win the pill, but we're stuffed once we lose possession of the ball.

And if people are going to focus on the topic of foot skills (which we should), other than Betts and Tex....who else can we pin a Blue Ribbon on? One or two others, maybe?

They didn't have the work ethic or team ethics to make it under Walsh.

I never heard anybody suggest Petrenko didn't have a good enough work ethic. He's just not a good enough player. He busted his guts out for us but he didn't have the composure or skill level required for AFL. You could see the fear in his eyes when he lined up for a set shot.

I agree with you about Smack though. He was prone to having a low footy IQ and hurting the team by giving away stupid free kicks. I doubt he would have made it under Walsh.

This year really is do or die for a couple of players. Lyons, Grigg, CEY, Atkins are all going to have cement a place in the best 22 or this maybe their last year on our list.
They all have potential, but if you havent cracked the team in your first 4 years or so, your time will be up pretty soon.
I think Lyons should have gone to another club last year for his own development.
Melbourne would have been good for him.
