My midfield is Ablett, Murphy, Selwood, Thomas, Martin, Pavlich (Kavanagh, S. Gibson)

Thinkin of somehow adding ballantyne in there? What do you think?

Very heavy on the premiums, any reason for that given the plethora of talented rookies bouncing around the midfield this year?

Might be worthwhile swapping a few of those players into your forward line and grabbing some cash cows.

Also Ballantyne isn't listed as a midfielder so not sure how that’s going to work. If you want him in your forward line, be careful. Although he has said he wants to move into the forward line, it's doubtful he will be moving there enough to warrant selection.

Does anyone else think that it's worth spending the extra 40k on pendles over swan? I know you cant really go wrong with either but I'd much prefer pendles in my team. Only difference is the extra 40k can change a Hanley to a Carrazzo/birchall or upgrade sidebottom to a Riewoldt / Cloke

My other mids are ablett Murphy selwood then 4 rookies.

I'd go with boyd out of those 3.

What are peoples thoughts on Lenny Hayes? A big risk obviously but one worth having a crack at?

I have Hayes. 174 SC points in both Grand Finals 2010.....amazing. He is super professional. My theory is to give him a couple of weeks and have Barlow or Ziebell (emerging midpricer / rookie) in mind, just in case he does not come up. Is a gamble but so is Barlow. If he becomes a lock - Ablett / Swan / Boyd / Selwood / Hayes / RRR. Is a nice way to get things rolling.

What do you guys think about the perennial Bombers whipping boy in Brent Stanton?
Is a ball magnet and his scores are extremely impressive, im seriously considering him as a unique pick who still scores well!

In my opinion you don't want to spend 538K on a player and have any doubts. Mids at the end of the season have to be all dead set lock 'em and load 'em guns. Spend the extra 60K odd and get Selwood!.

Yeah already upgraded him to Boyd giving me a starting midfield of Ablett, Boyd, Thompson, Hayes, McDonald and Stevens at the moment.:thumbsu:

His stats may be impressive but his sc scores are anything from 'extremely impressive' if i'm not mistaken he didnt even end up averaging 100 for the season? if he did it certainly wasnt by much. imo there's proberly something like 15 guys who will end up averaging more than him and since we only need 6 by the end of the season there's plenty of other better (and still unique choices)

edit. just saw ur next post. imo boyd is a better selection, still fairly uniwue as a starter and will be one of the top scorers by years end

yeah Boydy all the way, had him last year and was gold, just couldnt bring myself to spend $626k on made a few moves and squeezed him in without compromising my side! :thumbsu:

Murphy v priddis v boyd v watson

Which two will do better this year ?

imo murphy and boyd with priddis running a very very close third. murphys still young and i see him improving further this year and boyd, well he never gives up, the doggies could be getting slaughtered and he'll still pull out a 100+ score.

the reason i have watson last is because imo he's more of an injury concern especially when you compare him to three of the most consistant midfielders in the game. if you replaced him with rockliff or dal santo then you hsve yourself an absolute blockbuster question, id dare say they'd almost be no correct answer to it given they're all stars and average about the same

My mouth was watering watching his NAB cup game. Doesn't look like taking a step back any time soon.

Imagine if he starts popping 2 goals a game, he will be up in Ablett and Swan territory.

i'm starting to lean towards bolstering my mids with premiums rather than def/fwd... purely because of the reason that midfield rookies are the most likely to be played as the sub. the starting subs were a killer last year, and when a rookie scores 10-40 points as a sub each week, the $$$ doesn't increase by much...

eg. bewick and lucas who got me last year!

thoughts?

midfield rookies also score the most points and generally have better job security. by the sounds of it you just picked the wrong guys. all you gotta do is watch nab cup setups closely so that you dont pick the sub players, there's plenty of rookie midfeild blokes who will get loads of game time. start with gws if you're struggling

I think i'll have to wait until NAB cup to be sure of this comment, but honestly i'm not overly convinced of that many mid-rookies.

GWS do hold a few, but elsewhere i'm seeing a lot of fringe players...I just think given the fact GWS held all the cards in the draft and a few of the other early draft picks appear in DEF/FWD positions it's a bit different to past year.

Again, i'm sure NAB will show me up, but just my thoughts.

I agree, I wasnt that impressed with the way most of the rookies I was targerting played, having said that it was only rnd 1 of the nab cup and there is a long way to go.

1 - Is Morabito going to be ready for round 1?
2 - Goddard worth it?
3 - Thinking of giving winderlich a run, surely gonna increase in price?

Quick question, Martin or Cotchin in midfield? Or should i get rid of Jack for Martin in the forward line? and have both Cotchin and Martin.
BTW i already have lids and ellis in the back line.

martin for jumping jack. imo martin will have better and more consistant scores. jack being a kpf will have more ups and downs.

there's nothing exactly wrong with having 3 premiums from one side however i wouldnt go for cotchin. his average will likely improve this year but you have to ask yourself one question, if you could pick 6 of the best premium midfielders for your team (which ideally you will have by seasons end) would cotchin make the cut? imo he wouldn't and theres a good 10 midfielders who will score better imo.

Ok thanks for the help :), also i was thinking getting Dale Thomas for my 4th midfielder but all my mates said get boyd or dalsanto instead but i havent got any other pies and i thought he is a bit cheaper and will have a good year, what are anyone's thoughts on this ?

imo whilst thomas might be a good point of difference he again falls into the same category as cotchic imo. wil he finish in the top say 10 midfielders and above pendles and swan? no he wont. therefore if you're aiming to have 6 of the best midfielders by the end of the year, imo you'll have to trade out thimas which imo is a wasted trade when for a little more cash now you can get someone like boyd or priddis.

If you would like a pies player look at swan for the midfield (pendles is too expensive imo) or a cloke/sidebottom in the fwd line or shaw in defence.

hope this helps, thokas isnt necessarily a bad selection but just imo you'll end up wasting a trade to upgrade him to a 'super' premium
