I was figuring Tippett might nominate for the PSD.

But maybe the PSD is now redundant. With delisted players becoming automatic free agents, it would seem that there is no need for a PSD.
Delisted players only become free agents if they weren't offered a contract by their club. Thus the PSD will remain an option for those like Tippett who were wanted by their club, were not traded, but still want out.

OK, I stand corrected then.

So players who could be in the PSD are Tippett, Jacobs, Sherman...

Banfield if he decides not to re-sign with us.

Matthew Campbell?

Anyone else?

Petterd isn't as bad as you all say, can take screamers and kick goals, though has had a injury prone run this season. Will come back to QLD as a Lion rookie or Sun senoir.

I think 'you all' is one person. I'm certainly interested in exploring whether he still has any value.

I think the only reason we'd keep a PSD pick would be if Tippett nominates for the PSD only. If he nominates for the ND, where he's more likely to get to Sydney, we'd probably just use that last pick on Crisp/delisted free agent/ND depending in what we value most.

I would take Petterd with pick 33 in the national draft. He has a lot of gun attributes, psych test him and then use him as marking half back flanker. We all know something has seriously gone missing at the Dees, 2 seasons ago there were patches where the footy world were concerned they would become a powerhouse based on picks and flashes of performance. Picking over the carcass can reap rewards. Moloney and Martin have cost us nothing. I would be willing to roll the dice on Petterd.

What role would Petterd play?

Let's say this is our best team:

B: Adcock, Merrett, Docherty
HB: Golby, Patfull, Maguire
C: Redden, Moloney, Hanley
HF: Rockliff, Brown, Zorko
F: McGrath, Lisle/Martin, Bewick
R: Leuenberger, Black, Rich
I: Beams, Raines, Green
S: Lester

Which players would he be putting pressure on for a spot in the seniors?

Charlie Depth?

I think you'd probably play him as a HBF or HFF. Given your list Grim, I'd say that he would compete with Docherty (who's probably still a generous addition to that list), Bewick (probably the best match) and maybe Lester. Of course, if he flourished, he may bring something different to the team. Most people couldn't see where Raines would slot into the team and few people would'vw predicted where he's shown to play his best footy.

Like some of the others, I'd be not opposed to having a look at him, but I'd look at him as a rookie. At his best and injury-free he'd add depth. Not all additions have to be best 22, but you're right, you have to see them there at some stage given the right circumstances otherwise why would you recruit them.

Not sure I think you got me there :(

Every delisted player could be described as 'depth'. Doesn't mean anything.

What role do you see Petterd playing, and who's spot in the team could he potentially take?

If you don't think he's capable of overtaking anyone in our best 22, then he's probably not worth taking.

I see going in front of Banfield even though they play different roles Pettard will go more time with the footy and kick more goals, but he is a depth player IMO.

That to me is a kind way of saying you don't think he's much good.
No not all I think that Bewick is ahead of him for that role and if we want an extra half forward we should get Ben Saunders from the WAFL. Petterd has good hands and can play across half back, but like everyone else he has to work for his spot.

I hope we do and I doubt anyone will pick him up.

We are kind of desperate for anything that is over 195cm and has played forward of the centre square at some stage of his life. Even ones with bung knees.
There was an unwritten rule that other clubs never drafted a player like Retzlaff, delisting and re-rookie was seen as a fair way to manage a marginal player with a LTI. I wonder if the whole delisted FA thing has changed this sensible rule?

Are you guys likely to rookie Retzlaff? Has anyone shown interest in him as a delisted FA?

I think the interest in Retzlaff on our board is based more on compassion for his circumstances, than ability as a footballer. My guess is he won't be picked up by us or any other AFL club.

I haven't seen much of him but I thought he showed glimpses. Anyway, cheers for the update
