Gee, there are a lot of players who have been delisted at one club and succeeded at another. Think of Raines, Patfull, Maguire, Rodan, Kennedy (Swans), Brad Ebert, Danny Stanley, Giles, Leigh Brown and probably a heap more. Those clubs would have considered it long and hard also.
All were given longer than two years to prove their worth, Cook has been given two. He could be something and a lot of people claimed at the time he would be a project player who'd take 3-5 years to develop.
And no one should overestimate Melbourne and its outstanding development program. With their draft picks and talent they should be in the 8, yet can't develop guys with talent like Martin, Petterd, Cook, Blease, Watts and Gysberts.
He fits a need, has potential (#12 pick) and should be at least inquired about.
And there are many many others who don't. I don't think there is an argument in naming a handful of players that delisted and then go on to become successful unless you consider equally those that don't. The hit rate proves this to be an unlikely success. We have just clean out our list and don't need to be adding players that can't get games for a team that has languished at the bottom of the ladder for so long and shows little likelihood of improvement. It's not as Cook has been competing for a senior berth with the likes of Franklin and Roughead like Lisle was at Hawthorne.
