If a proposed trade goes through with us getting jaksch and norths 1st for our 1st. Can anyone else see Jarrod Garlett being looked at with our 1st? Think with rogers eluding to the need for speed a while ago, watching the champs he was lightning. From what I've noticed the top teams have 2 really pacy wingers. Hawks smith/hill. Sydney rohan/Jetta. Port White/Polec. Freo hill/Pearce. Just think with cripps and graham coming through as inside types, he might be the right type of player we'd be looking at. Could see garlett/Yarran being our two. Potentially a perfect mentor role for Yarran aswell

Bit apprehensive about getting another Yarran. Thought we'd be better off getting another quality mid from the get go. Ahern or La Verde. Or even Weller.

Does anyone else feel that in todays game we and all clubs would be better served using our top picks on forwards, mids and hbf but never on a ruck or kpd?

I keep hearing "best available" but i think its rubbish...if best available at pick 6 was a ruckman or kpd id be saying hell no mid or kpf please.

Whether by chance or design, just taking a look at hawthorn they have traded in their rucks and kpd. Mcevoy, hale, lake, gibson and spangher were all trades...pretty incredible really.

To me it seems ruckmen and kpd only have to be servicable like hawthorns and even good ones like gibson and mcevoy are much cheaper to trade for than a gun mid or forward.

Spend top picks trying to land gun mids and forwards and trading in role players for ruckman and kpd positions seems like the way to go.

It's hard to say definitively as footy is constantly evolving.
I'd say the value of rucks and crumbing forwards are at an all time low with the need for extra midfield rotations etc..

Pickett and Lamb have pretty underwhelming highlight packages. On the other hand... La Verde looks like he has a bit of Pendlshit about him. Maybe mixed with Parker.

Keital also looks pretty promising for a 2nd round pick. Can play both forward and back. Could he develop in the 2s with Giles?

Would also be interested in McKenzie if he is still available in the 3rd round. The Northern Blues KPP could look like this.

FB Keital
CHB Giles
CHF Watson
FF McKenzie

La Verde in the middle with a couple of experienced heads, Carrots and McLean and the developing Holman, Graham and co.

Whilst in the 1sts Jamison and Rowe KPD and Henderson and Casboult KPF with Jaksch swinging from attack to defence like a pendulum.

Come on Cringle, this is sacrilege.

There are plenty of Watson "haters" on this forum, yet you have had an unabashed "bromance".
Now you propose he be playing the season in the 2's

Am a big supporter of Watson, but if he can't cement a best 22 spot in 2015, he may as well be trade bait.

We do need 2 more KPP's to balance the list, and the Northern Blues line up. Like the sound of Kietel, McKenzie another
matter, we get seduced by the thought of our own Hawkins or Cloke, but the modern game pretty much demands players
be more than one trick ponies. Suspect McKenzie will slip a long way more than most expect.

Yeh I've heard McKenzie could be a potential rookie. Long term project. Would still like to take a shot... but that's maybe cause he's a father/son.

With Watson, personally I'd see him ahead of Jaksch and have Jaksch as CHF in the 2s. But I wanted to be realistic and have Watto their as I acknowledge he's behind Henderson and Casboult. Have no idea what will happen next year. Hope he does get some solid game time.

Thanks Aph.

Looking at the dates, the word "interminable" comes to mind.

I was actually impressed by Pickett based on his highlights package alone. Hit targets by foot, good evasion, good speed.

Impossible to really get a good idea of their talent without watching them live.

Has no defensive awareness or care for it. We can do better.
