I would give us a solid B this trade season.

We set a target of 3 top picks and achieved that without trading away a top 10 player in our side, plus as a bonus we got a young forward over the line for nothing.

Take pick 1 to the draft and grab the best U18 player in Australia.

Next year it's open season on GWS. Already excited to see who the Pelican can shake loose.

What the hell were the Crows doing giving 10 & 47 for 14 & 35? I get they expect the guy they want to be there at 14 but chances are the guy they want at 35 will also be there at 47. Worst trade of the trade period.

What makes that result look better is Armitage, Steven, Montagna, etc remain on our list. I think we did pretty well.
I don't want to be a negative Nancy here, but we can't afford to do just okay in the trade period. We needed to nail it! The state of our list compared to the rest of the comp is really quite horrifying. We are coming from a long, long way back, maintaining Armitage & Montagna was actually a major mistake for mine.

They both should have been shopped around as they will not be in our next premiership side. Armo will be 30+ next time we are any good, and if he is still in the side at that age, trust me we are not contending for a flag. Whilst his presence makes us a better side for the next 2-3 years, he will not help us win a premiership anytime soon. I think we played this trade period way to conservatively.

Pelican and the lads get to walk away claiming they met their stated objective of 3 picks inside 22, but they achieved it the easiest way possible. Not prepared to do anything bold and for mine was a really lame trade period by the Saints. There was scope to make us a better side post 2018 and we have really pulled off nothing. Keeping pick 1 does not mean we are winners. It is like going to the casino with $100 and coming home with $100 and claiming you are a winner because you didn't lose. Well, we can't afford to "break even", we needed to pull off some big trades in our favour and didn't.

We are at least 10-15 good youngsters away from matching GWS, 7-10 from the Suns & 4-7 from the Dogs. We are going to have to get really lucky with picks 21 & 22.

We are not going to catch any of these sides any time soon if our intention is to sit on our hands in trade week, and wait for people to offer us the deal of the century. We can't afford to be this conservative next year.

Cue accusations of being sook.

That is just how I see it, need to bring in a lot more new players over the next 2-3 years and we just missed a significant opportunity to be a much better side post 2018.

Enjoyed the fun guys, I also must apologise to Sunshine Saint publicly, I posted a couple of shit comments about depression, was way out of bounds and for that I sincerely apologise.

Hopefully we can all arrange a catch up over summer at a pub somewhere, until then, it's over and out for me.

Brian but as we have found out far far too often, your farewells are often and absences far too brief.

All I will say is Petracca had better be the superstar the recruiters have marked him as!

Agree with the Trade Radio's rating of our trade week C-, I think they got to greedy with the pick 1 scenarios, they missed out on Jaksch, O'Rourke and Frost all of who will be solid players.

Membrey in PSD is reasonable but he would have been picked up with a nothing pick if we had of traded picks with GWS.
if we originaly had no other clubs interested in trading for pick 1 we all wouldve been strutting around like Roosters bragging about having pick 1next month. But cos of a few rumours about offers from GWS now we arent satisfied with the first chance to grab Petracca or McCartin???. Other clubs would die for one of those 2 and we get to pick who ever the hell we want.
Exactly what GWS offered us isnt public knowledge (just rumour).
If anybody thinks today was a wasted chance and worries whoever we pick up MIGHT not be as good as hoped then IMO they are getting Waaaaay ahead of them selves.
Gotta be happy with pick 1 :)

Alright I'll admit I'm a little bit flat that we didn't get 3 top 10 picks but if the offer isn't there that makes it hard to take it! Also shows in the future that we won't buckle.

1, 21, 22, and 41 with Membrey is still a good result. Now we start operation get in Cameron and Shiel's ear for the next 12 months.

+1 here mate. i'm with you its a good result. i'm kind of glad we have a late pick now, given some smokies

The truly annoying thing is that we do 4/7 if not for the Swans taking Heeney

The AFL and this BS academy has just put a dent in the fast tracked rebuild
Except if the Academy system didn't exist it's likely that Heeney wouldn't even be in the talent pool, also the Swans would be better off using the millions of dollars they spend on the Academy in the football department. In 10 or so years when AFL is a huge sport in QLD and NSW we can thank them for putting in the hard yards.
