Port supporters complaining this isnt a free. FFS he dived over the ball.

Love how they focus on this but not the fact that the Monfries free that started the comeback was the softest free of the game...

Or the one of Robbie Gray's goals was as a result of a throw, the guy even stopped as he knew it was a throw too.

So what's the INXS song for today " Bitter Tears"

Port Power's opening game at AO.

Bitter tears taste so sweet
I'm seeing my way
For the first time in years
When the love around
Begins to suffer
And you can't find love
In one
In one another
Push away those bitter tears
Bitter tears

8 seconds to go and Angus Wantfrees fails to mark. Terrifying stuff.

I remember that hold on his arm too..
Hawks had some horrid stuff in the last quarter and other times..

Early in the last quarter frees were 12-11 in Hawks favour..
Yet it ended up 17-21 in Port's favour by the end..

Ump tears -when there shouldn't be any- are delicious..

And Schulz threw it to Gray in the first quarter who ran into an open goal, which I guess is karma for the Wines decision later

Absolutely fair for them to complain about that. It wasn't a free - not this year, not any other year.

I actually thought the umpiring was really good today, I was intending to post about how much more enjoyable footy is when they stop paying stupid little free kicks and just pay the obvious ones. Then they ruined it by paying that one right at a crucial time.

Make no mistake about it - that was an absolute howler.

Watch it again, all day every day thats a free. He jumped onto the ball and paid the penalty for not getting it out. Thats the way its been for years now.

Sydney beat a Victorian underachiever comfortably and book a grand final berth on Friday night. Hawthorn front up Saturday afternoon and beat the team from SA by less than a kick.

Is this 2012?

I certainly hope Port fans don't use the phrase "a kick away from the GF", because good sides never say things like.

A bit of karma if you ask me.

I disagree with the 'dived on or dragged in part'.

However he took possession of the ball and then was tackled and failed to 'make a genuine attempt' to dispose of the ball. This is also HTB.

My problem is that the 'no genuine attempt' HTB is paid completely randomly.

Thats exactly what the umpire said, he dived on it and when you do you have to get it out, otherwise if you are tackled its holding the ball.

Dont look at the gif image look at the video, it presents much better.

Not years - they've only been paying it like that for one or two years at most, and it's far from an exact science. In that case, I don't think it's a free, even by their newer interpretations (which I hate). Extremely harsh call at best, and a howler in my opinion.

Absolutely no prior opportunity - and not what the free was paid for.

GROTTO is right, the free was paid because the umpire believes he "dived on it". Except if it were to be paid every time that situation it was there, there would be 100 free kicks a game.
