As a few threads tend to derail into talk of who we should keep/trade/de-list/re-rookie/retire/send to the glue factory, and being a favourite topic of mine, thought I'd ask what should our list look like in the new year?

Sharper minds may be able to fill in the gaps as to any future changes to the size of our list, and the situation of de-listing/re-rookieing but as I see it we currently have a:

Primary List of 40

Rookie List of 4 (Burbury Sheringham Walker Eardley)

International/other codes (Blicavs Bathie)

* Burbury and Walker final year rookies, must be upgraded or delisted

And we must take 3 ND selections, one of which may be a rookie upgrade ??

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

While naturally bullish about our kids coming through, I don't see us de-listing the talent coming up through the VFL, and their sustained success gives good reason for hope.

My changes at this stage would rely on a few retirements, preferably following a flag:

Retirement's: Corey Chapman Hunt

Upgrade: Burbury

De-list: Walker Sheringham

Persuade Blicavs to stay on as a rookie for a final year

2 National Draft Picks, Eardley + 3 new rookies, including a young ruck

Thoughts?

my thoughts are pretty much the same although I think J Hunt might get 2 years at some other club for decent coin, maybe melbourne

I think there is also some small chance Enright and/or Lonners retires

we don't need to hit the draft hard because many of our kids are still too young to make a decision on just yet and injury prone guys like Cowan/Simpson/Brown haven't had a decent crack at it yet

Looks good, but as I've said elsewhere Ballroom straight onto the seniors.

Just had a scroll through the team list, the amount of depth in this side is nothing short of incredible. I haven't seen much of Hartman, Bathie, Eardley or Sheringham but more or less everyone else on the list is capable of being more than just a fill in/rotation player in the senior side. Very impressive, could spot few (if any) list cloggers.

I think Brown's time is up, especially with Joel Hamling looking more comfortable as a key forward then anywhere else on the ground. Cowan might be in danger to unfortunately, I'd guess Sheringham would be the one from the above group I mentioned to probably get delisted.

Don't forget that we may choose to elevate one of Burbury/Walker and then draft the other in the national draft. Would save us forcing retirement out of a Chapman/Corey/Hunt/Podsiadly, or allow us to hang onto someone like Josh Cowan for an extra year.

If we are aiming for a flag in 2014, i think we need Joel Corey as a depth player on our list. He has been good as an in and under mid at times this year, and with us getting smashed in clearances we need more in and under type mids. He can also play off half back. I'm sure I'll get torn to pieces with this comment, but he has been serviceable this year.

Corey has been more than serviceable this year, he's been clearly top 10 in a side sitting 10-1 on the ladder.

I can't agree.
1. Stokes
2. Enright
3. Bartel
4. Taylor
5. Duncan
6. Podsiadly
7. Motlop
8. Johnson
9. Mackie
10. Selwood

I hope that's not in order....

Some serious over rating of Mitch there if so (and personally i think Bundy has been better than him) and stevie j has easily been on our top 3 this year

Nope not in order, but I don't agree SJ has been in our top 3 simply because of all the game time he's missed already. Top 5, sure. His best form is the best in the competition imo. But there have been more consistent players this year than him in our team.

We disagree on Duncan. I'm a big fan of his, and those who were rubbishing him and wanting to drop him 3 or 4 weeks ago were talking nonsense, but in my opinion he's been below his best this season until the last couple of games (including his 1/4 v GWS), and Corey has been consistently better over the whole season, with perhaps 3 games in our best 5 and arguably including one or two as our best. I would actually also have Christensen ahead of Duncan (so change my "top 10" to "top 12" :D ).

That's fair enough :D a differing opinion never hurt anybody on the Internet

In my opinion Bundy's form has been too jumpy for a top 10 spot, though at times he can be outstanding. To be honest, I haven't seen a huge amount of improvement since 2011 from him, not that his current standard isn't awesome or anything.

Can't see Mitch Brown staying on really, with our needs for more ball winners and consistent ones at that, just cannot see Brown
staying. Sure he is great at times at VFL level, but, who is he going to take out of the seniors.

Unless Pods is moving on, which Vardy would replace, I can't see a place for Brown. If he plays as a defender, who is he going to replace?
HT is going to sign a new contract and I thought Lonners agreed to terms this year for an extension. Can't replace someone like Enright as
he has a few years left also. Again, a decision that maybe tough, but perhaps a trade maybe on offer at seasons end for Brown. I know they
waived him about during last trade period, but there was no offers.

Some serious thought will need to go into our ruck stocks also. We can't have the likes of McIntosh, West, Blitz, Vardy then Simpson. Why carry
Simpson if it looks like he will never get a run. Sure this year was tough, but, I think it is more the likes of a tough run of injury that is not going to
happen often.

Reckon supahoops has got it very close. The one I'm pausing on is Walker who has some talent and if there's a way to keep him on the list (rookie or senior) for one more year I think they should.

I also think Brown will again request a trade so depending on that outcome we might have some more flexibility.

Hartman showed a bit today in the 1st half. Still doesn't have much of a tank so needs one or two more preseasons. As list spots are going to be tight I wonder if they may delist him and then rookie him?

Anyway, still half a season for all the players to impress (or not) before a final decision is made.

Positions won't be tight delist Cowan,Corey, chapman, pods, hunt & trade West

Upgrade Blicavs & Burbury

Hopefully trade west for Taylor. Adams

We'll agree to disagree then. ...He's missed 3 games (so played 8)... is averaging 28 touches and is one of the only players we seem to have in all the experts half way all Australian... easily had been in our top 3 for me

The club has been trying to groom Hamling as a defender. I don't think that he will make it as a KPD/F. He looks more like a third tall similar to Andrew Mackie. He is quick and athletic, has good spring from a standing position and can take a mark. But I just don't see him having the ability to go with big KP players. He does have the skills to play forward or back.

Out: Corey Chapman JHunt (ret) Brown (trade) Cowan (rookie list) Simpson (trade)

IN: Walker, Blitz, Burbury/4th pick, 3 ND picks

Delist bathie from rookies along with sheringham, retain eardley.

Would think the first two retirements are the right time, the third josh is unlucky given form but spots may be too tight.

Cowan to rookie list if no one else takes him first.

Brown and simpson I am a bit uncomfortable trading given list needs but we require the spots.

They are contingent though e.g. if taylor goes then we must retain brown, in which case trade stringer instead (who is also contracted). if Hamish can't get on the park by year's end then we need to keep simpson and trade someone else-who I have no idea.

I am undecided whether to upgrade burbury or trade. he can play but doesn't fill as much of a need as blitz or walker.
Blitz must be elevated, do not want him getting mumforded.
Any idea of walker being delisted is silly, talls like him have value and so the only way he won't be with us next year is if someone offers us a very good pick as a trade.

You say delist Simpson and Brown, but for what? Players no good as we haven't the room, which leaves us with 2 extra picks we won't use, or upgrade these picks? What do you think Simpson and Brown are worth? And where do you see Walker playing if we keep all our talls?

Walker seemed to have more going for him a year ago, was getting senior games here and there but now has a contracted Brown to contend with, Blitz has come from nowhere, HMac on 3 years and Simpson over his injuries and playing seniors today. Throw in Kersten Vardy Hamling - not sure where he fits in..
