I have zero idea of what our approach will be. Heard whispers of the club think they top up and go for it 2014. Then other stories of mini clean out , play youth in 2014 , (I suppose looking toward 2015,2016)

The contracts for Rivers and Hmac would sort of indicate to me the club would still have planed to be in contention. Yet the players mention in draft spec give me the feel we may either go to the draft or be gaining collateral for "big fish" trades. No super fish but I'll be bob smacked if we trade out our R1 and have no pick till late. And us being linked to Shaw is counter to youth and giving the VFL guys their chance.

Brisb and Saints may need player but they will only want players that could play in their side . So Taylor Hunt , Varcoe , West and Brown are logical. Worth is debatable . But If we could end up with an Adams or a ScottS and an extra P in the top 25 Id be happy
If we do pick up Shaw on his full contract , I hope its a player swap and we add a pick to it.
The Shaw speculation puzzles me a bit cos SW has always placed great store on how coachable a player is, his attitude, whether he fits our culture et al. There's no doubting Shaw can play but whether he meets some of the other criteria I somehow doubt.

Rather keep our first pick and the $450k-$500kpa we'd have to pay him personally.

Whether it was once true or not, this "no dickheads" policy that Geelong supposedly adheres to is a furphy since all footballers have the capacity to be dickheads at given times of the year. We don't have Hall Monitor Harley at the club anymore handing out 6 week bans for shit behaviour, so why not recruit Shaw and let the good times roll, off-field.

Straight swap , NO Add a draft pick and then we will have to start thinking. Duncan <> Shiels & R2

If Varcoe was to leave and wanted back to SA , Id hope we could do Varcoe &P32 or P13 to Port. If it was GWS , TV and Adams and a mix of picks. He would suit there needs but Adams is being talked up for way overs TV and our R1 .NO
Varcoe for ricky henderson?

pointless speculation over something that hasn't happened is just that... pointless :p

There is no way we would be giving up a first round pick for Shaw. We've been delisting 31 year olds so I can't see us selling our future for a very short term gain.

The small defender is a great position for young players. Draft a gun midfielder but play them as small defender until they are ready for the midfield.

That's what I can't understand Turbo: if we are genuine about youth then it does not make sense to deal out players who have good reason to have have faded a little during the year, mainly through injury. But it keeps being reported that the Cats are making plays for people who might cost what it seems crazy to lose. In short, how is it we see ourselves as competitive for SS, even Shaw, without sacrificing what we need most, our round one and round two picks or someone like Poodle or even Duncan? Really trust the club in recruiting, but just cannot understand it at the moment. Had thought we might make a play for an undeveloped GWS player who might be a key back, that would make more sense to me rather than waiting for this year or next.

How about everitt from the swans? Out of contract and will be pushed out by the buddy deal..
At the right price he'd be a handy inclusion, has some height and pace still young enough and improving, the Brown supporters here won't like the idea, but Everitt would be ready to go.

I don't really see where he plays?

I really hope we draft Mitch Thorp with pick 109 or whatever and then turn him into an awesome player to really rub it in the faces of the P&Ws.

Underrated player with size and pace, with opportunity could be a real asset, how and where we'd use him is another thing.
I think he'd thrive on the change though.

Don't see him wanting to move, he's finally made it at Sydney after 7 years of trying to get a regular game.

Would give us a bit more flexibility,Mackie could spend more time playing higher up the ground/Taylor more time forward, those two did a power of work down back this year, the help wasn't really there from Rivers(injured and never seemed to get going)Everitt doesn't mind a stint forward either.didn't he kick a crucial goal against us?

Everitt can play forward or back, 194cm, he's pacy and a pretty tough unit, 24yrs of age, now a fully mature AFL body.
I reckon in a fresh quality environment he'd thrive.
We could do a lot worse, and he's ready to go, why not?
