They then pick him up in the PSD :) ................easy.

They wont, for the same reason that St Kilda didnt redraft Ball. Restraint of Trade.

Also. he'll just nominate terms (5 million dollar contract).

Who wants a player on a million a season for 5 years... who doesnt want to play there?

GWS are not going to want to be the bent-over kings in the way Brisbane were last year.

Not sure how (for example) picks 10, 28, 46 for (Cameron and pick 37 and 55) = bending them over?

They would have 2 first round (plus compo picks and likely priority picks), 2 second round picks and 2 third round picks to play with.

Our first pick wouldnt be till pick #37.

Cameron is their marquee player and yes they may just lose him but it won't be to us................not this year at least.

He walks next year, and they'll get substantially less in a trade than they would this year.

Why would GWS risk that?

Anything can happen but a team has to hedge it's bets every now and then.
GWS release Cameron with a year to go of his contract and they lose all cred.

The AFL don't have a say in things but they'd be terrified should Cameron leave as he is GWS's Ablett, their Franklin.
Propping up Scully or Whitfield on posters won't cut it.

Given we'll wrap up Gibbs and knowing picks aren't really what GWS need, what do we offer? Yarran ++? Menzel ++?

Others have much more they can afford to lose and I can't see us getting close................Patton though.

They lose cred, but gain a 1st round pick and upgrade their second and third round picks.

I know which one I'd take.

No required players aged 26 or under need to be traded (or should be).

Why dont GWS want picks and pick upgrades? They're in dire need of KPD's (and mids) of which there are heaps in the 1st and 2nd rounds of this years draft.

With compo and priority picks (plus our traded 1st round pick) I can see them with four or five picks in the top 20 to stock up on mids and KPDs. Thatll give them a much more balanced list that should hit maturity all at the same time.

KPF's they have in spades.

I think we should hire Chris Pelchen for the year - solely to negotiate with GWS in order to maximize our return.

They'll want more.

For reference:

The Blues gave up draft picks three and 20 along with young key forward Josh Kennedy, in return for Judd and pick number 46 from the Eagles.

In hindsight, giving up number 1 draft pick for Judd would have been a lot easier than giving up three high selections for Judd and Armfield.

Both Judd and Armfield have been awesome for Carlton (so we did alright out of the trade).

But losing Kennedy (who was a required player!) and two high picks has definitely set us back in the terms of quality in the 22. Hopefully we would not give up multiple picks for any one player again. We need quality on all lines as well as developing star players.

I am OK with giving up pick 10 and downgrading picks for Boyd or Cameron from GWS though! And if our top pick is not enough then lets keep the picks. Top 12 picks were good enough to get Menzel, Yarren, Dangerfield, etc.

They have KPD's.........Cameron, Jaksch, McCarthy, Tomlinson .......... :)

Mids? Shiel, Treloar, Whitfield, Scully, O'Rourke, Coniglio, Greene, Smith, Kelly......................where does it stop?

Mate, they need KPD's. Desperately. Massive hole in the list. Go have a read of the GWS board. They will look at throwing the kitchen sink at Frawley as FA and will draft more than a few this year.

They'd probably even look very closely at Watson.

To be fair, we are going to be in need of Mids and KPD's ourselves very soon (in that order).

We still need a KPF more at the moment though.

One dimensional midfield that has achived **** all. IMO they're an explosive outside mid and inside-grunt mid short.

Exactly. People rate top 3 picks too highly IMO. Its rare that the best player in a draft come from the top 3.

I'd rather have two picks in the top dozen than pick #1.

Add Plowman and Frost to the KPD list

KPFs - Boyd, Patton, Cameron, McCarthy

Rucks - Mumford, Giles, Lobb

What can we possibly offer them in a player trade that they need and we can afford to give????

Twas a joke about KPD's. Guess they wish they held onto Hombsch now.............GWS do some weird things.

Had their chance to go for grunt but gave away Tyson and a high pick for Kelly last year.
They've had many chances. Could have recruited Wines, Vlastuin, Dunstan, Cripps etc. etc.

SOS and co have made their bed.

Generally speaking, yes.

Had have we had pick #1 last year though, I doubt we would have traded it for even #2 and #3

There's always something more behind the numbers..................players.

Lower picks. They desperately need KPD's (and to a lesser extent Mids) and the draft is full of them at the pointy end.

Regardless of the risk of the PSD in 2015 I can't see them letting the hottest KP propect in the game go for picks 6-10 and 24-28. They will demand very high draft picks (to on-trade for experienced players) or a pick and a player and the competition form rival clubs would be fierce.

Would our first round picks and Jamison be of interest?? Would be robbing the backline to strengthen the forwardline...

So I guess I'll touch on what I said earlier, and that is Henderson

Carlton people love Henderson, though I'm skeptical of his overall ability going forward. We are too forgiving at Carlton. We were laughed at this year for over rating our list, and imo its evident in how we treat Henderson

First we need to be clear on one thing, is he a forward, back, or swingmen? If hes a swingmen, then get the idea of him big a big KPF out of your head. The best we'll get of him is a roving high half forward that can play defence. If we want a beast (Cloke, Tippett, Hawkins, Walker etc) then we need to plant him in the forward line. We cant compromise on him by every one in five weeks asking him to play defence for the next 5 years while we wait on another defender. We did it with Waite and wasted his best years as a forward

So if we plant Henderson forward and commit him there, we then need to ask, who would serve us better? Camera as a forward, or Henderson as a forward? Quite frankly anyone who says Henderson has rocks in their brain. Cameron has shown an infinite more in both consistent form and potential.

So if we were to sell Henderson to GWS as the answer to their backline woes, what else do we need to give? Our first pick is a given, but what more? I'd be happy to throw either of Garlett, Watson, Touhy, or let them throw up a fringe players name they think can help

I wouldnt be happy trading Yarren or Gibbs. Theyre essential cogs to our team balance and potential Carlton flag side

Cameron replacing Henderson as our forward, is a no brainer, plus if we can get the deal done by adding fringe players who dont effect best 18, well where do I sign?

Mumford won't last.

Problem is, the pitchfork clique on here would never accept trading Kreuzer.

(If it netted Peter Wright and Jeremy Cameron...)

The pitchfork clique have no say in the matter.............:)

Wouldn't surprise me at all any more and we'll slowly become more accepting of such maneuvering...........we won't have a choice.

You're replacing one key position player with another and doesn't address our shortage.

That still leaves us with just Levi and Cameron forward if Waite retires. Sorry but that's still not a premiership winning forward line.

Uh, it's only a deal if GWS somehow signs that paper napkin too.

I'd rather we keep Henderson. Provides leadership and was our best player second half of last season. A dodgy start to this year does not a career make. Let's avoid the reactionist approach.

Even with all their KPFs, the first person GWS chased last year was Buddy. They want a high profile player that'll draw an instant crowd more than they want to fill holes in their list.
Could get Walker, stick him forward & let him fly for mark of the year all game.
