Well IMO the only tradeables that I can see are golby, bewick, Staker, Maguire, merrett and possibly harwood. Nothing that would move beams even when packaged with our first pick so instead of saying go hard at him, let me know what you guys are thinking, cause there is no point in getting beams at all costs if that means giving up redden, rich, rockliff, zorko (our depth)

Yeah I think next year is our most likely year of nabbing him, I'd just like to see us go hard now and perhaps working something out too as I don't think doing so would preclude us from having a genuine go next year if it doesn't work out.
I agree, with the proviso that we need to be extremely careful not to raise a trade with one of our players unless we're very, very confident they would be keen. To me, that may be too fine a needle to thread, and the last thing we want is a repeat of the Bradshaw/Rischa episode.

The other thing that concerns me with waiting one or two years when he is out of contract or becomes a free agent is that Collingwood will be able to afford him. I can see the Pies having quite the drop in that time period and with players like Cloke, Lumumba, Reid renegotiating contracts (or in Lumumba's case, being there at all) and not taking up as much cap space.

Go hard for him now, if that means we break even. I would give up pick 4 and player like Lester, Golby, Harwood or O'Brien in a heartbeat.

Don't get me wrong love to get beams just don't know how it's going to get done. Don't want another fev situation. I know fev was older then beams and I know fev didn't want to come here, but we just delisted most of our undesirables so it doesn't leave us with much to offer

Lester, harwood, or golby plus our pick 4 would be great IMO but still can't see pies jumping at that. Beams would be an upgrade on all of those guys don't think pies would even consider O'Brien cause he is a rookie listed player

I agree, I don't want to be giving up any of those players (and quite a few others). It's really hard, because the temptation is to say pick 4 or whatever it is + player + player but the reality is quantity =/= quality and trades like that never get done.

It really depends on if we have anyone open to a move to Collingwood and if so, who they are. If a player like Lester, Golby, Bewick were open to it, then I would be trying to involve one of them. I suspect they wouldn't be enough however. That's where our traders have to earn their pay packet I suppose.

That's why it's important that we sort out what's happening with Ryder early on. He's the one that definitely wants to be here and having certainty one way or another with him is essential with respect to any other trades we make. If he does come early, it may mean Leuenberger does seriously start to consider what future he has at Brisbane. A situation like that is still a long way off and not worth taking seriously at the moment, but it just shows there's so many ways this could turn out.

As Kevvo points out though, we have to avoid a Rischitelli/Bradshaw situation at all cost. If that means we have to soften our stance then so be it.

I bumped into a few of Lester's Vic mates last year round about the exodus time. They told me he was loving it up North and was disappointed to see others jumping ship. Sounded like he had really bought into Brisbane and everything the club (and city) has to offer. I would be disappointed if we traded him.

Yeah I agree the ryder thing has to be sorted early if not kiss beams good bye this year at least. If the footy gods smile on us and I know this a long shot, but if we happen to get paddy over without using our second rounder, maybe we can package that up with our first pick and one of those players. Early days though, lot of water to go under the bridge.

Me too, but to get beams he would be expendable, if he agrees to it

What "trade assets" are you constantly on about? How the hell do you know where we will be next year and what picks we will have.

No need to get snappy fella, just a discussion.
The answer is that it's reasonable to see us trending upwards next year meaning we won't have a pick as high as 4 and that there is also a reasonable chance the first rounder next year will be required to obtain Keays. So no, i don't think we will have as good a asset's as we do now

I'm actually bored with the Ryder and Beams thing already. Any other rumours going around?

The Tyson Goldsack bandwagon seems to have run out of steam, hasn't it?

My take is we should just wait until next season and get Beams as a free agent.

Better yet, why don't we take Ben Keays next year as a free agent?

I'd suggest giving up pick 4 this year for Keays just so we can lock him in early.

I have a feeling we will put all our eggs in the beams basket, before the ryder thing is sorted. Ryder might not have any choice, but to execute that clause to get to us, if he really wants to come over.

I had thought that you should stark stalking him and force him out of Melbourne. You managed to drive out Yeo without even being in the same city ;)
