What do you think andy otten is worth? And is he worth bringing him to sydney?

If he is a chance to be delisted at seasons end i wouldn't be against picking him up as depth even with his bad run of injuries.
Not much.

Otten's more of a third tall though. Given we already have Laidler and Rampe, and the potential for Richards to retire in that role.....

We should definitely get Jack Watts.
To play exactly where and what role? Might take Dean Towers' spot as the tall, soft, athletic outside utility but considering Towers is a fringe player it hardly seems worth trading for.

Jack Watts is a poor man's AJ! No doubt that Watts would be a better player at a stronger club. He did play some very good games as the loose man/third tall last year but he is very soft.

Whilst talking of finding places next year for Heeney and Jones, how do we also fit in Mills and Dunkley? :)

We all know Mitchell is only a place holder until he has to go back to the NEAFL to work on his knitting, horse riding or feminist writing skills to make sure he is fully rounded footballer. Watts is a natural to take his place. Potential Brownlow medallist right there.

Mills and hopefully dunkley add more competition to midfield but we still don't know how they'll go at senior level. See jack watts debate as to what can happen to highly touted juniors. If they are what we hope it creates a great dilema to have, it also gives us trade options to get in a key defender if one of our gun mids wants to head back to vic.

We will only get him for trade (due to draft guns), but doubt he will come for less than 350k.... (unless we can back end the 350 to be more the following year).

I remember Roos being interested in Lloyd perris, but 2 knee injuries later doubt that would get it done. Send towers down there? Honestly dont know if we have any other trade bait, (Robinson?? Hewit?? Marsh??BJ??) that is worth considering.

Honestly think that those guys could be real contributors on other lists. (carlton i am looking at you).

It would be silly to trade out Robinson, Hewitt, Marsh and BJ as they have little currency. You need to sell at the top of the market and not at the bottom.

You should be looking to trade senior players who you feel could be replaced by Hewitt, Marsh, Robinson and BJ.

Craig Bird is an obvious trade. Overtaken by Mitchell, he could get a 2nd round pick. Hewitt is the obvious midfielder to move up the inside midfielder depth chart to replace Bird.

Other players I would look to trade if a move home is requested are Hanners, Smith and Jetta. There is some currency right there. Marsh could slot into defence and Heeney, Dunkley and Mills could attempt to fill Hanners spot.

That is fair enough and sound thinking but you have to keep in mind that all four of those players are out of contract at the end of the season so they already have little currency because if they request a move we can't stop them from moving as was the case with Spanger, Mumford, Lamb and Membrey before them for basically peanuts and thus planning for them to take roles into the future is pointless until they sign new contracts with the club.

Again sound reasoning and fair point, but the club will need to look at weighing up the options and risk of trading out a player like Hanners moving forward when we can't possibly get fair reward for him via a trade this season with the current trade ban in place which then opens us to losing him via Free Agency next year. Trading Smith is a huge risk as he is the best at what he does and we won't get value in return for him for what we as a club get from him, so that is not a player worth trading. Jetta could be the one if either of West Coast and Freo want him badly enough but we will still lose something.

But as you point out we have Heeney already and likely will get Mills and Dunkley in. But long term planning on Hewitt, Marsh, Robinson and BJ is dangerous when they are out of contract and still yet to re-sign with the club. You can only control the knowns, not the unknowns

Jack Watts? LOL? He might have some ability but sorely lacks the mentality to play at AFL level. It's not even the case of wrong environment. Sure, he was introduced to AFL too early, but no earlier than Hanners was. He was playing AFL while he was finishing VCE.

He's a pussy and wouldn't give us anything. I'd rather us take Schoenmakers and try to improve what he's got.

I guess it depends on the conversations the club are having with BJ, Robinson, Marsh and BJ.

I'm making an assumption here, but I'm sure the club could say to Zak Jones that Shaw has 15 games left and we think you can do his job. That would encourage him to sign.

You can't give any guarantees to Hewitt as Bird is a current player and plenty of good inside midfielders are coming.

Marsh is an interesting one. If he does not become a regular in the senior back line, we can package him up with Lewis Jetta and offer a WA team some pace and outside run combo deal. Marsh would need some senior games to improve his trade value in the above scenario.

I don't think BJ would want to leave his brother so he will stick it out.

To my understanding, Robinson is from Mosman and probably won't want to leave Sydney.

Of course, doubt all will go in one hit.

Zak Jones has re-signed so he and the club know what his future will be.

Robinson was promoted from the rookie list only last year so would have every chance at getting a new contract. The other three we can't say as others play their roles and/or have go home factors (Hewitt and Marsh) that could see them wish to try their luck elsewhere.

I agree we should try and get extra 2nd and 3rd Round draft picks this year and next year where and if we can to off set the new bidding system that will cost us all our picks this year and most of next years for Mills and Dunkley so we have SOME capital to play with at the trade table other than just players if we want to improve our list.

Lucky part about our trade ban is we'll be under the cap this time next year and with Goodes, Shaw and maybe Richards retired we'll have a smallish war chest to play with if we are smart.

I think knowing us, we'll try and top up with what we can get via the free agency system, we even offered to withdraw from the draft altogether at one point and focus on recruiting NSW players. The go home factor is still very real for us when we draft players from interstate.

I think Buddy's contract goes up next year to around $1.2 million.

That might not necessarily be a problem for us, when the collective bargaining agreement talks begin later this year the AFLPA are expected to push for players to get a bigger slice of the pie. I expect Buddy's contract was negotiated with future salary cap increases in mind.

All Australian is not fashionable enough?
Would clubs spend a first round pick on a small lockdown defender though? That's basically my argument.

He's worth a lot more to us than he would for an opposing side.
