You know what... I think Mills won't get picked in the first 5. Mills has below average kicking skills, that never equates to a top 3 pick. I can see a couple of other academy teams having picks in the top 5 and I don't see them pissing on another academy teams parade. We just need Weitering and Parish to stay fit - they're stand outs for me, Hopper or Keays might even end up the best of the academy players this year, they're seriously good players. Dunkley will be coming off a back injury... that's pretty worrying for a kid that age. We'll see.... but I'm really not expecting us to get bent over at the draft this year... GWS probably have more to worry about than us Hopper was always top 10 but Kennedy is going to get very close to the top 10 on current form/trajectory
The trouble is that team know that we will bid for them and they will force us to bid for them.

Someone will buck that trend in the next few years..... effectively saying, Ok he's your for two/three years, once he's gained some maturity and experience we'll bring him back for less than you just paid for him.

You guys should consider trading Buddy Franklin.

He isn't generally a big game player, aside from last year's grand final which you lost badly in spite of a 4 goal haul. He had no influence on last night; if it wasn't for McVeigh in the dying minutes you would have been cactus. The 4 big man setup of Reid, Tippett, Goodes and Franklin netted 5 goals. :(

You got him for nothing under free agency - trade him home to WA for Freo's first round pick to use on a gun 18yo midfielder. 29 in January and his salary will begin to bite.

Yeah nah.
But hypothetically, wouldn't we have to keep his contract in the cap anyway if we did? no point

No lol.

by the end of the year you'll still have $7,000,000 left to pay on your investment. If Franklin isn't the difference between winning and losing a grand final, I'd seek options to refinance.

He will be at one point. Like last year, he's dealing with a few niggling injuries. But he's still contributing no matter what. Can't really bag him out since he kicked close to 4 goals a game last season.

Yeah we should trade for dale thomas instead

Can't live in Victoria and train with us. Not a huge deal as he has spent time training with us already
Didn't hanners train with us ??? Or was he selected while still at school? I know he made some commutes to Syd.

After Dons didn't give us a look in for Daniher I would be shitty if another VFL club took a potentially good f/s selection.

We drafted Hanners while he was still in Year 11. He stayed in Melbourne to complete his Year 12 for his first year with us.

In the event that pyke ends up slowing down by the end of this year and one of naismith and nankervis don't come on as hoped i think we may target another ruckman.

Possibly by next season pyke will have a more mentoring role in the squad.

Drex is still in the squad until the end of 2016 but as of late hasn't even been close to a look in.

Jarrad redden from Port looks a likely prosepect and looks to have fallen behind the likes of lobbe and ryder.

If we can somehow find draft picks somewhere i think he may come cheap as he is also uncontracted after this season.

Great report on the AFL website about today's Vic Metro/Vic Country U18 match. Two players talked about as possible number 1 draft picks - nice :) Mills slipping down the draft order all the time!

That Weitering kid is the number one, it's daylight second - he's that good. Mills was always going to slip, especially once they decided how the bidding system will work and a bit of normality broke out.

Mills is very good (and a top ten) but I honestly think there might be other academy players taken before Mills. I think Ben Keays is absolute gold dust and Hopper will go early too... Mills has a slight question mark on his kicking efficiency and in a fairly even top 6 or 7 (after Weitering) it'll mean he probably drops out of the top 3

I doubt every one sees it that way but that's my take on it. Will be a good result for Sydney of it does go that way...
