Looking at Carlton's list they'd be able to offer him very tempting coin.

Exactly how is the question. There has to be a way, Essendon did something like that with Ramanauskas, iirc. There has to be a leniency rule for a player like Menzel. Come on Geelong, find the way and make it happen. It is the only fair solution.

There is no such rule and it won't happen, I don't think Geelong would want to do it to Menzel anyway.

He's not going off the main list at the end of the year unless he retires.

Cowan might be delisted but Menzel won't be.

Sorry Blakey, love your posts, not trolling, just commenting on your avatar/picture. As you no doubt watched that programme, I hope that makes sense.

What you have to understand is that my username was originally an ode to Mark Blake, former Geelong player, and shit canned on a similar level to Blicav's by Geelong fans. Since Mark Blake doesn't play for Geelong anymore, this is the only other Blakey I could think of.

Change it to Blitzynoflakley
You can have that one for free!

I have a bit of a history on this board regarding Mark Blake and Mark Blicavs, (BIG FAN) as you may have known, so the username has always grabbed my attention.

Is that you the voice of reason? :)
If it was the voice of reason, it makes no sense??
DM, as brilliant as he WAS, has not played proper footy since 2011, and will not play this year.
We are NOT in a position that we can afford to carry players on our list who have no good prognosis as far as playing, although if he is contracted for 2015, there is no issue
There should be an agreement that he can be delisted with the proviso that Geelong is the first team able to rookie him. I can only hope.

I doubt the cats have a lock down small defender on our list. I would have a crack at Jarryn Geary from the saints who is no superstar but would be a better bet for back pocket every week than what we have and would come cheap.

Other than that I would be having a big look at GWS and trying to prize a couple of their young fringe players like O'Rourke, Hoskin-Elliot, Jaksch etc.

Watching Troy play last night and watching some great plays from him, makes me miss Dan doing the same in our fwd line.

So how do we get Troy to the hoops?
We don't. He's just signed on again I think. Feck knows why...

It makes sense from the point of view that in recent years Geelong has built a reputation on the compassion and respect it shows players, and with an exceptional talent like Menzel they're not going to deviate from that whilst there's still a slim chance he may take the field again.

I'm with PO on this one - he'll only go when he and the club agree a comeback is no longer possible.

Nobody wants him to GO.
Just discussing ways of keeping him and promoting WHEN/IF he is ready.
Obviously if it meant we lose him, it won't happen.
What would other teams really do if he was open to be rookied by us, or selected by other teams, knowing full well what our intentions were?
Would Geelong or any other team likewise select a player like Morabito if Freo had opted for the pragmatic approach?
Again, we don't want to test that, but I was hoping there was some extreme special consideration that would have allowed us that option. Clearly there isn't, so likely end of speculation.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying, and such a contingency would be great, but it seems there's no other way.

And there's no way they'll risk losing his talent while there's a snowflakes chance in hell of him taking the field again.

It means we tie up a spot, but man, if it paid off and we got him back on the field again......

I know right. The Swans obviously tapped him up.

I wonder if either Charlie Dixon or Sam Day come out of contract at the end of this season? Either one would be a great tall partner for Tom Kawkins up in our forward line, particularly if there is any doubt about the longevity of Vards.

Dustin Martin looks like he starting to live upto that considerable potential he's got. Putting on a clinic at the minute, one of the best performed players in the game over the last month.

WE need a KPB first.

Then maybe a young ruckman.

We can see how the midfield develops as we have so many now coming thru.

A KPF (CHF) would be nice but nearer the back of the wish list for me.

Understand Jon. I thought with Hamling and JKola that we are building some KPB depth - if we need a ready made KPB then maybe we should go after Frawley then?
