Just on Yarran, Something that i have been thinking about recently and we discussed his value with my carlton supporter friends and were actually thinking about what he has managed to achieve so far at Carlton and we were extremely suprised at what a dissapointment he was and compared him to (dont laugh) Richard Tambling

Yarran after 7 years at Carlton averages
115 games

10.55 kicks
3.92 handballs (14.47 disposals)
3.67 marks
2,79 tackles
.78 goals

Richard Tambling
108 games

8.38 kicks
6.48 handballs (14.86 disposals)
4.56 marks
2.90 tackles
.50 goals

I know the usual banter will be tambling is a dud etc etc but Honestly i really cant see much difference

lets not go there with both carlton and richmonds drafting history

You bought up the Yarran/Tambling comparison.
What sort of response were you expecting.

This thread is discussing our list NOT comparisons between Tambling/Rioli or whoever.
Save that for your own Board.

Totally irrelevant to the topic!

Hate seeing him wasting away at HBF.

Is and always has been a HFF imo.

I swear they sit him at HB as a decoy so the opposition wastes a shutdown defender on him.
I agree with this. As soon as he started getting a tag and the opposition had a play for shutting down his space whenever he got the ball or was about to get it, HBF has been a waste of his talent. A team like Hawthorn or Sydney would probably be good enough to work out a plan of their own to create space for him but we are too busy sending handballs two meters wide of their targets and putting simple set shots from close to goal out on the full to worry ourselves with something as sophisticated as that.

The attitude everyone bemoans is to me that of a dog on a leash, who wants to go for a run but can't. I'd like to see him let off in the forward 50 where hopefully he could sink his teeth into a few opposition defenders.

Thanks Aph, it took all my might not to bite back at this guy.

Bit of talk about Ben Lennon on the main board. Would we be interested?

Seems to be a strategy we have taken over the last couple of years - target previous years 1st rounders who are only 2 years in and struggling with opportunities.

Ex Carlton supporter too.
Yeah would definitely be a player we'd target.

It all depends on where SOS rates the players in the draft this year against Lennon. If say Lennon looks more likely than the 20th best player in the draft then we'd offer pick 20.

I would be. Kicks like Hurn, marks like Menzel. Big bodied and has shown he can play as a midfielder. I think I had him equal fourth in his draft year.

Lennon has been emergency a few times this year but only broke through for only 1 game
Come to the club injured and player i think 7 games last year and showed skill and composure but needs to learn his defensive game as he has always played as a foward. The other knock on him which he has been working on is his tank and looks to be coming along well
played hb and now been moved upto the wing and has had 3-4 very impressive games at vfl level and last week against the NB had a very good game
wouldnt be suprised to see him in the seniors this week and get another 2-3 games

Highly doubt richmond will be looking to move him on and will get regular games next year with newman most likely retired

You know he wants to come back to Carlton.... ;)

Statistically a long way behind Richard Tambling over the first two years of their careers so you of course won't expecting much in return for him.

Our starting 22 in 4 years looks pretty strong!

assuming we get rid of Yarran - does not include who we draft with his pick
assuming we get rid of Hendo - does not include who we draft with his pick
assuming we pick up Aish - assuming we trade 2nd round for him
does not include SOSOS or Rice

B: Byrne, Giles, Buckley
HB: Docerty, Weitering, Viojo-Rainbow
C: Aish, Gibbs, Boekhorst
HF: Bell, Jaksch, Graham
F: Menzel, Casboult, Smith
Foll: Kruezer, Cripps, Murphy

I/C: Curnow, Whiley, Holman, Everitt

Love it... I just hope at that stage that Menzel is a midfielder! Maybe Murphy and Menzel swap. Could see Murphy kicking 40 a year as a forward in his twilight.

Brisbane Lions must be prepared to lose James Aish for nothing

If the writing on the wall is correct, wingman James Aish will request a trade at season’s end in a bid to join a Melbourne club.

We think Collingwood lands Giants’ midfielder Adam Treloar, putting Carlton in the box seat for Aish.

.........Oh.......it's Jay Clark. Anyway, this may be very close to the mark.

I really dont think we can afford his salary,Isnt he on something like 500k py for the last 7 6 years

TG, Warnock has two options at the end of the year

1) Accept a massive pay cut (at Carlton or elsewhere)
2) Finish his AFL career

I think #1 will happen. While he is not great player and offers nothing outside the ruck contest, I assume at least one team would see him as a stop-gap / back-up ruckman and would likely be more useful than most state-level ruckmen etc.

Was about to post...
Fairly happy that although the Aish story is plastered throughout the HS website, that our board has remained fairly quiet on the matter....

Cards to the chest or is everyone just ho-hum about the idea?

There have to be concerns for any player that seems to not want to play.
His output this year has been ordinary at best, although he may be carrying an injury.....who knows?

Many punters had him top 3 in his draft year and he can play. If we want him, that's good enough for me and if we get him for little?........even better.

As long as we play hardball ourselves, I'm fine with it. The thought that we might trade Geelong's first (via Hendo) for Aish is ridiculous - he's shown nowhere near enough since being drafted to attract a first round pick in return. I'd start with our third, expect to get talked up to our second, and if they don't take it then we grab him for nix in the PSD.

No overpaying for anyone from this point on. We take the good players that we can get cheap, otherwise we hit the draft and build from there.
