I found that very weird, trying to figure out why they would do that and what they are trying to accomplish. Maybe they don't hate us as much as we think - or maybe they are trying to move us on (relocate). Who knows.

Or maybe they do this as standard practice risk analysis with ALL clubs when required to protect the business.. i believe a healthy Carlton is a huge asset to the AFL coffers. I also dont buy in to the hyperbole that the AFL "hate us and want to shaft us whenever possible"..

The idea of "fairness" is completely different to that of "AFL rules".

You are right Fernando. If that was us we'd be up in arms at the prospect of losing pick 2 after the season we had. We were worried about Leuey compo after winning in round 22.

It's just that there is no formula or precedent for 'fair', just process.

So according to the AFL website Dodoro has already met with the Blues to open up talks about Carlisle and is set to meet with the Saints this week. I bet he fancies his chances of playing us off each other to increase the trade value.

Seems a bit weird that the AFL would call us in to present a 10 year analysis in our list.

Sadists!! Probably one of those meetings where they start by saying 'I hate to say I told you so' or we are not hear to tell you how to suck eggs but....

He would be marched out the door if he didnt..

Agreed. And if they apply the rules, we should get pick 2.

I actually think the best thing the AFL could do is put their hand up and say: "The system clearly needs work and we're going to review it in the off-season. For this year, Carlton get 1 and 3, Brisbane get 2 and 4. We're sorry to make it up on the go but it's a new system and it's more important that there is a fair outcome for all parties."

But I don't think League House has that much humility

Something like this:

Would be an interesting chat...

Dodoro to Blues - "I want pick #1 and #21 for Carlisle. Saints are offering more"
SOS - "GAGF"

Dodoro to Saints "Blues are considering offering picks #1 and #21. We want more! We will take Your first, second and a top young player..."

Evening Blueboys,
Just a quick hypothetical. Say you get band 1 comp for Kruezer and land pick 2 (either from the Dogs or elsewhere). Would you take Hunter + pick 11 + a sweetener pick from next years draft for pick 1? Keep in mind you'd still have pick 2 and would land Schache. Dogs are set to lose Talia to Adelaide and I'd basically sell my testicals for Weitering.
How about Boyd (you pay half his salary/not even in your best 22), pick #11 and your first round draft pick next year (should be #18 ;))?

I just agree with what Gleeson said in that article. It's ridiculous to think that Brisbane could all of a sudden end up with pick 3 just because they won the last game of the year and finished 2.5% points higher than us.
So the AFL should fix it in the off-seson so it is fairer next year. Sick of rule changes just when CFC is due.

Brisbane have two academy kids who are rated top 10-20 as well as pick #2 at present. They hardly need the extra help this year.

If Yaz and MK stayed

Weitering we know (assume) will be joining us

Hendo pick changes things also

Change Rowe with Carlisle if we don't get him.

2e - Jamo - Weitering
Byrne - Carlisle - Bucks
Doc - Cripps - BB
Yaz - KJ - Menz
Walks - Cas - Dre
Kruz - Murph - Gibbs
Thomas - Simmo - Nicky G - Curnow/Bell/Army

What if they'd won that game back in round 4?

Forget what time of year the results occurred - there's a ladder that ranks teams based on performance for the whole season. We finished last.

It's not just Brisbane that get hurt by it - 17 clubs get pushed back a spot in the draft so we can get an extra pick. It's happened every year since FA came into play - why is it so different now?

I don't mind the side as a starting point. Need 100% intensity from all though. Need at least one tall forward to come on strong and need a little more forward pressure/pace.

We need Weitering more than you guys so no... keep your stupid trades on the doggies board where you are more likely going to get a positive result from them.

Agree. Nobody whinged when GWS dominated the drafts. It is our turn to top up the list with talent and if that is not allowed to happen then why is there a draft.

Unfortunately, the only scenario would be you guys handing over Bont or Stringer - Can't see it happening.

You'll have to enjoy Weitering wearing the navy blue! :p

Reasonable on paper but very similar team to this year, so worried about quality, depth and injuries. Bell and Curnow must be in the starting side, as they were two of our best this year.
Really lack genuine A graders so really need some player development under BB.
I think Walker (Menz/Yaz/?), Simmo (Sheehan/Rice?), Thomas (Bell/Aish?/Bugg?) and Jamo (Giles/Plowman?) will fall out of best 22 so need planned quality replacements.

If Treloar slips through to the PSD that would help :).

If we lost Kreuzer but got #2 (Schache) it would mean KJ could be a 3rd tall option forward or back. Just hate losing Kreuzer :( and we would be massively weak in the ruck. S Martin wants to leave Brisbane for a Melbourne club but is contracted. Would be a good replacement for MK for a few years while we rebuild, but cost would be interesting? Zac Smith would also be OK but not sure what we could trade GC?

Not sure we can afford Carlisle (4th round pick?) unless he comes via PSD.

Hendo + #20 for #9 (11?) and #28 with Geelong? Keep #9 (Collins/Curnow/Clarke) and need #28 for Rice?

Hope Bolton can improve our list quality with player development as I cannot see the quality lifting for at least a few years through the draft as we have too many holes.

how did we go in the first half of the season in the ruck when Kreuzer wasn't available? did Wood get close to breaking even? pick 2 is too hard to pass up.

Still dont think we end up with 1 & 2. I see the afl doing abit of tampering as follows:
Carlton get pick 2 for Big K, but trade that pick and Bell for Aish, Green and Pick 3.
So its effectively Krooz and Bell for Pick 3, Aish and Green.
