I think once Treloar comes out and says he is leaving, any chance of getting Kelly is off the table. He's contracted and GWS will get enough compo out of Treloar for their academy players for the next two years.

On Bennell, I wouldn't bother arguing with each other as I'm fairly sure he'll be playing for Freo next year. Maybe we can help out in the trade by getting Weller to the Saints?

Freo gain Benell
GC gain Freos first and our second
We gain Weller

We are the big winners in that one...Freo first and Weller for Bennell. Not sure they would do that.

They should bring in a new compo system. Top 10 picks should never be effected by compo to give the teams that didn't make the finals an advantage. GC and Essendon shouldn't be effected because Brisbane and Carlton can't keep their players and are happy to let them walk due to the ridiculous compensation they will get.

Band 1 - Pick 11 onwards, instead of this going by where the team finished on the ladder, they would use the same formula however the highest paid players team that left should get pick 11 (for example Hawthorn would've got Pick 11 for Buddy...this year Adelaide would get Pick 11 if Dangerfield left, Carlton potentially pick 12 for Kreuzer etc.

Then band 2 onwards go back to the normal way.

.
Wait, are you saying Dangerfield is better than Kreuzer?

;)

I actually think there is a world of difference between Carlisle and Bennell.

Carlisle has been playing in an environment for three years that saw Jobe Watson, an absolute class act on and off the field, need to take a break from footy altogether to get back in love with the game.

Regardless of what you think of them as cheats as a club, these young guys have been essentially working in a hostile work environment where their employer has created a difficult and unsafe work environment.

Bennell on the other hand has acted up in party central.

And at the end of the day they are still youngish kids.

Get Carlisle out of that environment and I suspect there will be a huge change.

Wow no way that would happen. Thats crazy talk

I've always rated Carlisle but something makes me a bit uneasy about recruiting him.... I'm even more concerned than if we recruited Bennell to be honest.

And if we start a recruiting standard based on rubbish tatts then poor old Skunk will be out the door shortly.

On another note it sounds like BJ sooked up again when Damien Barrett brought up rumours that clubs were looking strongly at him as a possible trade target.

Yes mate - agree - my observation was ability alone. Attitude the decider. I was responding to some posts that called him a tool for having his name on his body.

Agree.
Would have been tough going at Bomberland.

Yeah we'd have to throw something else into that deal for Freos sake. But as much as Bennell is on the nose, Freos first won't get it done IMO.
If Bennell nominates Freo as his destination of choice, he will get there. I'd say Freo's 1st would get it done. It's probably slightly unders, but its a buyers market with Bennell.

What about:

Freo gain Benell and our 2nd Rounder 2016
GC gain Freos first and our second
We gain Weller & Freo's 2nd Rounder 2016

effectively Pick 25 and Pick 26* -> Weller and Pick 36*

*estimated

Heard Farren Ray is looking elsewhere straight swap with Bris Jed Adcock perhaps, just throwing it out there.

That would be the football equivalent of murdering someone in front of a police station surrounded by a crowd made up of the judge at your trail plus all the jurors and still being found not guilty.

Apparently so. I'm really disappointed. Though the risk was worthwhile. Buying a gun for as low as he will ever cost
Must say I think we seem to be taking the "good character" criteria to the extreme.
Passing on Petracca last year and now Bennell, while I get the theory, so many footballers are shit blokes… every premiership team would have plenty of shit blokes in the side.
Many of the greatest players of all time also happen to be really shit blokes.
I guess the club needs to stick to their guns though if this is their approach, fingers crossed it all pays off eventually.

Trade Ross and 2nd round for Carlisle.

Help Jobe rediscover his love of the game. As he and Seb are still close and bombers can claim players want to be traded to them.

Win/win

Had a giggle reading that, well said. But really both are almost 30 y/o both played 200 games Ray has Grand Finals experience, Jed has been the captain (says something about the culture up north) it is not too far off the beam. Having said that I do not think we really need a 30 year old as we build our list, but just put it out there for fun and got a decent slap in return.

Gotta remember we didn't just pass on Petracca because he was a shit bloke. The Tom Boyd trade was a huge influencing factor. It costs a shit load to buy a key forward these days (see Tippett, Franklin, probably Dixon) and the Saints obviously decided they would rather grow one than pay for one.

I actually didn't realise he was that old, for some reason i thought he was around the 27 mark.

I'm going to go back to radio silence shortly, but before I do, some thoughts;

I was at the Geelong v North Ballarat game on Saturday (as anyone who follows me on Twitter can attest) and in regards to the big names, Hopper is a genuine gun, Parish promised a lot and delivered little IMO, Tucker was bitterly disappointing but exudes class, Curnow threatened to tear the game apart but I think he's a forward at the moment, but...

The revelation for me was Rhys Mathieson. I don't say this lightly, but it was like watching the second coming of Lenny.

I'm buggered if I know what the concerns are over his kicking or pace, neither was elite but both were certainly above average, but his overhead marking, tackling, workrate, hands and general effort were simply incredible. He was absolutely at the forefront of the Falcons' lead during the game and nearly killed himself trying get them over the line when they fell behind late.

I would take him ahead of just about anyone on that showing. Will play 250 games and win a Norm Smith.

More issues about bennell then what the public know about is what I was told in pm this morning.
