I hate seeing Key Forwards in the ruck.
Four on the bench will allow teams to play 2 ruckmen a bit more.
Seems to work for the Weagles and Hawks.

I was surprised that Lewis Pierce got an extension on his contract, I thought that he would be one of the players delisted , I think Hickey may be in trouble.

We actually have a very small number of rucks comparatively most would run up to 6 we have three on the senior list. If one goes down it can leave you vulnerable. He has something Lewie, could be a bit of a Darren Jolly long term.

I just can't see teams paying premium for Hickey, a talented but injury prone player. I would trade Hickey for a pick between 11-15 without batting an eye. Longer, Holmes and Pierce have all been developing and playing very well at their different stages. Or even Hickey for Carlisle. No doubt Hickey is a great contested mark, good but not great tap ruck and is developing a bit of a forward game. But I just don't see him becoming as competent as a forward as we need or as mobile. He hasn't got great pace.

On Hickey's exposed form in 2015, the gap between Holmes & Hickey isn't as great as some of us think imo.

Holmes rate of improvement is greater than Hickey's & he has 2 good knees as well.

I think they're quite close in value to our side.

The bolded is the key for me. No one is saying the kid hasn't got talent but he struggles to stay on the park meaning that he isn't a dependable option going forward. It is a bit of a no-brainer to trade out that sort of player for a first round pick if we can get it.

I have read where Carlton are supposed to be getting 4 players from GWS for their 2nd pick, 20. I know one of the players involved is Plowman, taken with pick 8 a couple of years ago. Can anyone recall who the others were?

Maybe we can get involved here if we fancy any of the players.

I'm not sure why trading Hickey is such a bad thing to consider, I'm sure it's been discussed internally, at least as 1 of several possibilities. Hickey has value and ruck is one position where we have multiple options. Also, say we keep Hickey and we have all 4 rucks healthy, Pierce might be stuck playing Dev League for long stretches. How does that impact his development?

I'm not for a second suggesting we will or should trade Tom, but it's worth considering, especially if it helps us land a needed centre half-back.

Until we have one go down next year with a knee and the other breaks a finger. Then we have Pierce and Holmes as our ruck division.

They probably wont have 13 as they'd be smarter to match the Cats deal and force them to trade.

Plus we'd need to do our 1st and 2nd for two picks in that range.
