Richmond and Carlton at loggerheads over Yarran.

On that, could we see a successful 4 club trade:

Saints Trade Pick 5 + 24, Get Carlisle + Pick 12
Carlton Trade Yarran, Get Pick 24
Richmond Trade Pick 12 + 31, Get Pick 23 and Yarran
Essendon Trade Pick 23 + Carlisle, Get Pick 5 + 31

We come out of that OK, but i couldn't see Richmond going for it.

Treloar going to Carlton would probably be a good thing for us cause he'd probably cost them enough that it'd kill their ability to get Carlisle through the PSD. After them I don't think any of GC or the Lions would take the risk and the Dons probably couldn't afford it (even if they do like throwing money away).

That thought had actually crossed my mind!

i think you would let him go to the Dons for that. If they want to waste their teens pick on a guy who was regarded as a pick around 25 in a weak draft let them have him. Their list will struggle for a long time if Dodo plays games with their future. If they trade down their first pick or over pay for bailey he should be banned from managing anything that looks like a list.

us talking about snatching treloar from under Collingwood nose is about as real as Carlton supporters saying we are going to fluff the Carlisle trade and they will get him in the PSD.

Once a club and player have nominated each other it's almost always the trade that gets done.

The only one I can see us with even a 10% chance of jagging is Aish given he's not the priority and Brisbane may want pick 5 for Aish and 17 (and 17 should be enough for Carlisle even though the bombers fans will scream)

5 for Aish + 17 is way overs IMO.

Disagree - it's a win for the Saints (think Brissie still wouldnt be happy with it)

5 and 24 could yield Carlisle, Aish and Freeman.

We'd then have from the 2013 draft three of the top 10 picks, and five of the top 20.

Outrageous of course - pure fantasy

Editted for accuracy!

Billings, Aish, Freeman...

Excuse my ignorance but who's the fourth?

Sorry I meant way overs for Brisbane as a direct swap, pound for pound. Aish and Carlisle however, we're laughing. That trade incorporating Leuy seems quite balanced for all parties if Brisbane force a trade for the Burger. Dodoro would be silly to turn down 17 + Leuy and Brisbane would take 5 in a heartbeat considering they won't get anything much better from Collingwood for Aish, and could get nothing.

Not pure fantasy. Freeman and Carlisle will get done.
Scenario is 5 for Aish and 17. Maybe a sweetener for Brisbane. Brisbane hate Collingwood and would rather eat broken glass than deal with them.

So while unlikely re Aish, it's hardly pure fantasy.

I’m sure this has been discussed before but it seems to me that the footy landscape is changing a bit and an out of contract players worth is diminishing over time. It must be one of the few team sports that if a player is out of contract he is still restricted as to where he wants to go? Players aren’t free to just talk to anyone and negotiate the deal that best suits them.

I’m sure if an out of contract player really wanted to go to a specific club and was willing to take it to court there is nothing his club or the AFL could do to stop him as it would be a restriction of trade. This is why the AFL want to jump in and mediate when things aren’t progressing IMO, to stop it getting messy because they know it only takes one player to do this and the whole game changes meaning they lose control over players leaving clubs. An experiment like GWS is basically a non-starter as the players get drafted there and then leave for free after the contract is up.

Think this is why we are holding more cards in the Carlisle trade, it’s very unlikely it will get to PSD but if it does it’s very unlikely he will end up at a club he doesn’t want to go to. I think the only risk we run is that he changes his mind and decides he wants to go to Carlton.
