Lol Bell. He is so shit compared to what Aish will be in a couple of years. I would want Henderson or Yarren + Bell.
Aish will be fricken awesome. I understand that. But his chances of being here after this season are slipping dramatically. I dont think bells as shit as you say he is. I would have him ahead of robinson for the mid forward spot he plays.

Zoblitz. When i saw bell play for carlton for the first time i was pritty impressed. It was only later i found out he was a queenslander.

Bell is quick and is one of the better runners in the Carlton side. He covers a lot of ground and his size helps a lot of the smaller bodies in the Carlton midfield like Murphy. I accept this clearance numbers could be better. Where he has improved enormously this year has been in his disposal skills. Even over the season so far his kicking is looking so much better than it was (coming from a very low base admittedly) to the extent that it is a bit of a weapon atm and he is delivering some nice long balls into the 50.

At the end of last year I was prepared to write Bell off but now I see him as an emerging player. He is still only 23 so there is a fair bit of time in front of him.
The fact is, his playing in the worst team in the competition and his not even in their best top 3 players. We need KPP, so either we demand Henderson + sweeter (maybe Bell) or swap our first round picks + Bell/Yarran.

I'll forgive you! ;)

Carlton say Murphy and Gibbs aren't tradeable but you'd have to think they would be more expendable than Henderson and Bell if they are truly interested in rebuilding.

Would be happy to swap Aish for a top 20 pick and Buckley or Bell, pretty sure Aish doesn't have one elite Weapon. I think Bartel is probably the player he would most like to be like, but he can't jump and he isn't hard at the footy.

Does anyone else think we could be interested in making a play for Peter Wright similar to the Bulldogs play for Tom Boyd? Obviously it wouldn't be a big blockbuster deal/trade like the Dogs for Boyd deal was but it would be similar in terms of us chasing a 1st year KPF due to the fact that said KPF was a highly rated junior. I doubt GC would be interested despite the fact that they already have Lynch and Dixon and Wright himself would rather return to Victoria then join the Lions I would have thought but if we throw a decent offer at him he might think about it.

I know the clubs aim is to target KPP's but if we fail to land one I wouldn't mind the club throwing some money at Luke Breust. It would be near on impossible to entice him away from the Hawks but he is such a gun. I understand the fact that one of the reasons he is a gun is due to the fact that he plays for the Hawks but he will be 25 for the whole of next season which means he would be joining us just as he is hitting his prime and he truly is an elite small forward. 19 goals already this season including bags of 3, 4 and 5 and couple of 2 goal games. He kicked 57 goals last year and and 45 and 40 goals respectively the prior two seasons. I know we already have Bundy and the Mozzies but I see Bundy and Zorko more as midfielders going forward and Lewy Taylor does his best work up the ground. Partnering Green and Breust up forward would guarantee the team at least four goals a game imo.

All I am saying is, if we can't land a big key forward perhaps we should look at using the large amount of cap space to find another type of player who can find the goals.

Breust has 19 goals huh. Greeny has 15 goals, interesting considering Breust as you say is elite but the difference is only 4 goals. If Green had been more on top of his game at the start of the season, he could have been equalling Breust.

Dan McStay, a 1st year KPF, is our 2nd leading goal kicker fwiw with more than a goal a game.

Breust also kicked 57 goals last year to Greeny's 33 albeit in a better team. What is your point? If the basis of your argument is Breust isn't elite because he only has 4 more goals then Green after 8 Rounds then I think you underestimate Greeny's ability as a small forward. Josh Green would be considered "an elite small forward" if he played in Victoria and for a gun team. I think Breust has more strings to his bow then Greeny though and could add a different element to our forward line.

We're not going to get an elite tall forward through drafting/free agency this year. Guys like Henderson and Carslile are far from elite. But they'd sure make the job a hell of a lot easier on someone like Freeman, Close and McStay. Who would then become the second and third tall forwards.
I don't think many people are suggesting we are. Players like Dixon and Hendo are you said would aid players like Mcstay and Freeman in their development and provide a big target up forward and hopefully chip in with a goal or two a game and those two are the main names that have popped up in this thread as potential KPF targets.

Certainly.

On Astbury, he wouldn't be a bad target if we couldn't get a more experienced defender. Been impressive when I've watched him. Had a bad run with injuries though which have stunted his development.

You completely misinterpreted my post. I was making a comparison between Green and Breust and basically saying Green is doing fairly well this year when ranking him next to an elite small forward in Breust.

I would rather put more games in to Andrews, Gardner and in all likelihood Beasley (considering he is playing very well in NEAFL he would at this stage be a monty to be elevated to senior list next year). Why draft another injury prone KPP? We already have plenty!

Bruest isn't going anywhere. He was offered crazy money by GWS last year and rejected, no reason why he would accept a contract from us if he said no to GWS.

Ashbury is quality but how many times has he been able to play 2 months without getting injured? Not often. Still worth a punt at the right price.

Both/will be better suited to third tall roles at AFL Level.

BRISBANE is making an $8 million raid to secure powerhouse bookends for next season.

The Lions have already targeted Richmond defender Alex Rance and have added gun Gold Coast forward Charlie Dixon to their wish list.

They are prepared to offer five year contracts to the pair and at about $750,000 a season for both players, the salary packages come close to $4 million each.

Dixon, who is out of contract at season's end and is in discussions with the Suns, also has Fremantle in pursuit.

While the Lions want to complement their midfield riches with key positional talent, the Dockers are looking for a replacement for skipper Matthew Pavlich, who will retire this year or next.

Dixon's manager Peter Blucher yesterday would not speak about the Lions specifically, but said Dixon was in demand.

''There are number of clubs interested in Charlie as you would expect for a player who can play key forward and ruck,'' Blucher said.

Lions chief executive Greg Swann was also evasive. ''We're always interested in good players and as our coach Justin Leppitsch has said several times, we are looking to recruit key position players.''

It's believed the Lions have hefty salary cap room, despite the acquisition of Dayne Beams and Allan Christensen.

Dixon, 24, has played 54 games for the Suns and has not played more than 14 games in each of his four seasons.

It's believed he has not yet committed to Suns because he wants to see ow the club performs in the second half of the season.

He has been one of the few shining lights ina deplorable season and the lions hope to entice him with their talent-laden midfield.

The Rance situation remains at an impasse.

The Tigers have met with his manager Tom Petroro about a new contract, but no significant ground has been made.

Lions coach Justin Leppitsch, a confessed friend of Rance, said he hasn't used his friendship to lure Rance north.

''We're really strong, we're good mates, always have been, and I'm really close with his family and I catch up with him,'' Leppitsch said on SEN Radio.

''But one thing, and even Richmond knows this, I talk to him as friend first and foremost, and not as Brisbane Lions coach.

''All our conversations are that way.

''When we speak it's about his issues, about what he's going through and personal things.

''It's not about "Come to the Brisbane', it's not a recruiting ploy at all from the Lions.

''Alex, and everyone who knows him will tell you, he's a very single-minded man, he will make his choice and that will be that.

Leppitsch said he believed Rance would continue playing AFL.

''And the rest he will work out,'' the coach said.

If we can't get Hawkins I'd be in Jack Riewoldt's ear as free agent for next year
