I'm sorry, but that should be grounds for being relieved of the pick. They should have 15 seconds to make their selection or lose it to save wasting everyone's time...

+1

FFS, at the very least the first 5 picks should be relatively straight forward with no extra time needed.

The Clubs with the first 5 picks should clearly have a list of their top 5. Its not rocket science.

Happy Footy Christmas everyone!

Here's for supporting whoever we pick. Unless it's Gallucci, then meet me at West Lakes with pitchforks and torches.
Certainly 4 or 5 I'd Pick before him but don't think I'd go to quite that level of disappointment, just can't see that he has much more upside in him.....do like his speed and agility but.

I have completed my extensive research and I can now reveal the three candidates for our pick 13 (or 14 or 15....).

We all agree that in an ideal world we will draft a "hybrid" mid who wins clearances and can explode from stoppages but does such a beast exist ? If they are all gone by pick 13ish we have to decide between a versatile outside mid or a pure inside mid. There is a long shot if a quality tall defender (Logue) slips through to us.

So my final list of three are

1) Jack Maibum; We do not subscribe to yesterday's theory that teams need 19 midfielders in their best 22. No, medium sized defenders are the new Black and at 191 cm Jack is part of this new wave. He was class captain at Melbourne Grammar (which is only second in our KPI's behind Haileybury Private School). It will also allow us to compare him to Nat Fyfe. We might pick up another 3 or 4 Nats tonight.

2) Jai Bolton; A 175 cm small forward but we will call him an outside mid. Great pace but tends to burn the ball which means he should fit in very well at West Lakes.

3) Tim English; I know we have a pretty good ruckman and his twin brother is also ready to go BUT Tim will be peaking just as we hit our WINDOW in 2025.

I genuinely LOL'd

Thankyou

I recall a few years ago the Coodabeens discussing the draft. They suggested that the notion of "Best Player Available" was an invention of the recruiting fraternity. It is hard to argue when they pull a Doedee that it was a "courageous" selection since they just pull out the BPA line. You can only judge them in 5 years time, by which time everyone will have forgotten.

The Coodabeens believed that clubs actually select on the basis of needs and since needs vary from club to club then their BPAs never match.

They even referred to the 1994 draft when St Kilda pulled a Doedee and selected the previously unknown Steven Sziller at pick 25. They surmised that the gaping hole in the St Kilda list at that time was "a short nuggety guy with lots of tats" and Sziller was the only one available at pick 25.

Yeah, same height as Ricciuto, but more likely to end up an Edwards/Lyons body type as opposed to a Ricciuto/Dangerfield which Venables looks like he'll develop into.
IMHO Galucci looks a clone in playing style to Douglas

Just to support that ....if anyone's seen the movie "Draft Day" ......you'll see clearly that the notion of purely picking best available is nonsense

He's a helluva lot quicker and for a white man - can jump
Dougie was quick early career ......remember his first game streaming out of the centre bouncing the ball with opposition on his heels, and slotting the goal

HE BEST 20 players of this year's NAB AFL Draft shape as the strongest top group ever, Collingwood recruiter Matt Rendell says.

"It is a deep draft. I've thought so from day one," Rendell said on AFL.com.au's NAB AFL Draft Countdown show.

"The best 20 is probably best 20 I've ever seen. I think they'll all play a lot of footy, the top 20.

"Some clubs are going to get some good players at No. 40, even No. 50. I think we'll look back in three or four years time and say this was a cracker."

Collingwood's first selection sits at No. 28, although bids on father-son and academy players are likely to push that down the order.

The Pies have Callum Brown (son of Gavin) and Josh Daicos (son of Peter) as potential father-son picks.

Rendell said the Magpies had crossed out 18 names that were unlikely to reach the club's first selection.

"We've basically written of 18 players that we haven't spent much time on and narrowed it down to 10 players at pick 28," he said.

Rendell said Collingwood would recruit players based on what the list required, since it was placed later in the order.

However, he wasn't prepared to reveal what those needs were.

"At pick 28, you've got to throw some needs into it," he said.
