Marchbank would be a good get.

Strong mark and gives good rebound. Was good one on one at Junior level and was one of the youngest drafted in his year being born in December. Reminds me a bit of Rance.

Would join EVW, Durdin and Nielson as talls from the 2014 draft and could set our defense up for the next 10+ years.
I guess we never would get four tall defenders in one draft though? Given what GWS would want for him and probably get from other clubs who are short on tall defenders, I can't see why we would be in that race. We should be chasing a skilful and quick midfielder or two, every day of the week.

Completely agree - of all positions on the ground i would have thought we had young stock in defence we need to try before trading for more

Young early first round mids are the only players we should trade for IMO

Every year, without fail, every god-damn year people want to trade Goldstein.

What the f*** is that about?

We moved on 2 more than adequate ruckman to facilitate his development, now that he's developed people want to sell him off.

Going down this route would simply make us a feeder club. Is that what people want to be? When we get legit A grade talent we f*** it off for ok talent and a magic beans draft pick?

Goldy is contracted, loves the club and in all likelihood wouldn't move from Melbourne for a start.
Because his a softc*** would trade him in a heartbeat

If we rate him as potentially elite talent I don't think it matters what position he plays.

So Jack Steele is out with a foot injury. Saints can take him.

Steele out of finals, maybe out of Giants

MIDFIELDER Jack Steele could have played his last game for Greater Western Sydney after suffering a season-ending foot injury.

Steele was injured at the Giants' training session at Tom Wills Oval on Tuesday morning, and subsequent scans on his left foot have ruled him out for the remainder of 2016.

The 20-year-old will consult a specialist on Wednesday to work out a plan for his rehabilitation.

Steele hadn't played senior footy since fracturing his hand in the club's round 17 win over the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba, but has been in outstanding form in the NEAFL, and gathered 41 possessions to help the reserves into Sunday's grand final against the Sydney Swans.

The Canberra boy, who has played 17 games in his two years at GWS, is out of contract at season's end and is in high demand with more than one Melbourne club.

Coach Leon Cameron said it was disappointing news for Steele, but he's hoping to see him in Giants' colours again next year and beyond.

"We're really excited with where he's heading, and he's absolutely a wanted player at our footy club," he said.

"We're feeling for him at the moment because he was on the verge of possibly playing AFL footy this week, if not he was going to play in a grand final on Sunday.

"As you know the ups and downs of footy can be pretty ruthless.

"It was unfortunate (during the season) that he went out of the team for three weeks to deal with his (hand) injury, and someone has come in and taken his spot.

"He's been in really good form and knocking on the door, but it looks like he's not going to participate in any more footy this year."

While Steele's future at the Giants remains up in the air, fellow 2014 draftee Caleb Marchbank has already informed the club of his intentions to take his talents elsewhere at the end of the season.

Marchbank told GWS officials of his decision to leave the club last week, and Cameron wasn't about to hide his feelings on the departure of the club's former number six draft selection.

"I wouldn't lie, absolutely, very disappointed," he said.

"He's a good young kid, and you don't like to lose a quality young footballer like that, but it is what it is.

"We'll work through that through the October (trade) period to get the best result for our footy club."

Marchbank has already been ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury, and Cameron said the young key defender would continue his rehabilitation with Steele, Jarrod Pickett (foot) and Paul Ahern (knee), the Giants' only other injured players.

All of these possessions in the NEAFL are so overrated. The teams in that league are beyond terrible. Of course highly skilled AFL listed players are going to dominate. Liam Anthony would have had 100 possessions a game in that league

Rhys Palmer racks up 35 + and 4Goals each week

Most overrated position on the field. Just chuck a big guy on the field and get the midfielders to crumb their ruck. Opposition players do it to goldy all the time.

Think it's time to call a uber and go home

Roos and Wells still unsettled on re-signing

Nick Bowen September 7, 2016 4:49 PM

DANIEL Wells' future remains up in the air as the free agent's contract talks with North Melbourne continue to drag on.

Wells is the biggest name among 10 North players who remain uncontracted beyond 2016, with key forwards Jarrad Waite and Majak Daw also yet to re-sign with the club.

North is hopeful Wells will eventually accept the offer it has on the table, believed to be a one-year deal with a games-based trigger for a second year.

Wells is understood to have earned about $550,000 a season under his existing three-year deal and, like most players entering the latter stages of their careers, the 31-year-old is being asked to take a pay cut.

The two-time best and fairest winner has also had his share of injury problems, with foot and achilles tendon issues sidelining him for all bar 12 games in 2014 and 2015.

Wells has made a successful return this year, averaging 23 possessions in 18 games and his form, particularly in the first half of the season, was outstanding.

When fit, the West Australian remains one of the Roos' most valuable players, with his mix of outside run and classy ball use a rare commodity at Arden St – even more so now Brent Harvey will depart at the end of the season.

Nonetheless, Wells' future seems unlikely to be resolved until North's finals campaign is over.

A genuine rival suitor has yet to emerge for the 242-gamer and AFL.com.au understands neither West Australian club has expressed interest at this stage.

If Wells decides to leave, North will be powerless to stop him given he is an unrestricted free agent. His exit would also likely prompt the Roos to abandon their bid for Collingwood free agent Nathan Brown as they would not want to dilute any compensation pick they received for their playmaker.

The uncertainty over Wells' future comes after North last month told veterans Harvey, Drew Petrie, Michael Firrito and Nick Dal Santo they would not be offered contracts for 2017.

That Waite, 33, was not among that group suggests he will play on at Arden Street next year. The former Blue's presence inside North's forward 50 would also allow the Roos to continue to patiently develop young talls Ben McKay and Sam Durdin.

Daw has agreed to sit down with North and work out his future when the club's finals tilt concludes.

The ruckman/forward would almost certainly enjoy greater senior opportunities next season with Petrie gone, but Daw's loyalty to the Roos is likely to be tested by several rival clubs who have closely monitored his encouraging progress in 2016.

Hard-running midfielder Sam Gibson, 30, has started talks with North about a new deal, while Brad McKenzie, Joel Tippett and rookies Will Fordham, Braydon Preuss, Robbie Nahas and Farren Ray are the Kangaroos' other out-of-contract players.

550k lol

on that alone he should play for free next year to compensate us overpaying him whilst injured.

300k max for him next year otherwise ship him off
What have we offered him?

Early 2nd round pick?
A bidding war is likely to start. Good 1 v 1. Better loose man than mcgovern. Rockstar.

Pick 16?
Well im hoping that richmond wont match vickerys offer. Than we trade our 2016 first to swans. 2017 first and player to gcs. Than the picks we get from freo probably and 2017 2nd and player.
Then send the pick from freo to north for hansen.
Just love his game!
