I would have reduced my 5AA listening by 95%+ over the past few years, compared to what I used to.
I bipass the adverts & listen to the interviews of interest on Soundcloud

I tend to only listen when they have interviews, otherwise I listen to something else if they are doing their chitchat.

Really ? ..... I rarely hear Rowe talking at any level that I would class as decent or sensible.

It’s simply station instructions to be controversial re Crows .... that guarantees listenership and Advertising revenue

It’s akin to the “Stupid” radio adverts over the years like “where yah get it” ...... biggest complaints of any adverts by listeners, but the highest recall factor

Rowe simply doing the same .... Crows controversy like Sloane going, guarantees every Crows supporter tunes in for the latest update ....... some call it “rope-a-dope”
Yet Rowe also talks about the A league, Fishing, Olympics, Horse racing, athletic's, bike riding, motorsport, Gymnastics. The main reason we hear about the Football is that the callers direct the program a lot of the time.

Wouldn’t know ..... frankly I have to turn it off after 10 min

But if Rowe was changing personas during the program, that would make people even more cynical, for being fake

Does it or is it a sign of what the producer want.
But to me, Rowe can get emotional and in some ways old fashion in regards to his football views, he not the only one.
I listen to the radio with the understanding that its entertainment mixed with news if sports program were all about the news then nobody would listen. So I guess I am more forgiving with they go off track.
And also living in SA I am interested in how SA sports stars are going, and 5AA covers them more than others.
When I visit Vic, WA Qld and listen to there Programs they are all about there state, as for the TV its more about eastern states. after all, did you know Adelaide had a few hot days because we all knew Melbourne suffered? it was on the tv constantly. Then when you are overseas there nothing about SA the only news you hear is from the eastern states.
So when I get the chance listen to a Local Radio station that has more content about Local teams and sports stars again I am happy to put up with them going off track. Guess it a simple case of the grass is always greener.

This is typical of most country towns, and I say that with respect ...... yes it is different, yes it is less professional, and yes it has to be local based

But I want mature Crows interviews, and I remember the angst last time Fagan was on .... he was cranky at the time of the interview

So yes local radio may be stuck in the 70’s ..... but that thinking that also held the Crows back .... has now changed, the Crows are more in tune with the more mature market place discussions ..... hence the angst with local radio 5AA

Sorry.... to answer your first question .... IMO it’s not the Producer, as I would guess they carry little weight at 5AA ...... but the tone of the show is very much a directive of station management

To give an analogy with this tweet

And therein lies the problems, We are not stuck in 70's but I guess if wanting to hear more about your own state and how well SA kids are going,
I guess we are and maybe that's why 5AA rate ok in this state.
Fagan been on a few time and had some good conversations as well as bad one, He also on Crows Radio, SEN, MMM and to be Honest there all the same.
And Just maybe the reason the Crow select MMM over 5AA was more about the dollars than anything else.
I don't listen to a radio station with bais They all have junk time, but I like to hear about SA sportsmen and women, I like to hear about the up and coming kids.
Tell me another station or person that promotes SA sports more and I will listen to them as well.

5AA you’re correct rates .... so no change

Only competition will force change, but 5AA is no longer a protected market .... Internet radio will redefine these small insular markets

ATM you’re correct local sports stars are only available on local radio ..... but there’s just as many Crows supporters outside the state as there is in ..... times are a changin

Good news. Last night I had a dream that we won the 2018 AFL premiership.

Why is this good news? Because generally when I have dreams about footy, for some reason they always wind up becoming true.

Not to dig up past wounds, but believe it or not, I actually dreamt of Hentschel having a career-ending injury just before it happened.
My concern is that you were asleep at the game!!

With people in the past commenting (and I've noticed it at times too) of a tendency of Eddie and Charlie to defer to each other and maybe force things to get each other the ball, it may be interesting to see how that changes with someone like Gallucci in there instead.

So what are good Aussie sports podcast internet radio stations?

SEN is ok but they are OTT with their vic centric views.

Go Crows.

What I found surprising was that going -1.1 at stoppages has us 16th.

Said it several times last year that we didnt even look to win the stoppage on most occasions. We allowed them first posessions then pressured and worked off of the turnover.

I dont read too much into that stat.

The main worry of those stats is F50 ground balls and it won't be helped by no CC

Our forward line is in danger of being our weakness IMO

May need a few tweaks in structure . Been saying it for a while
We're reliant on space and marking the ball inside 50 from precise passes. Outstanding in low/medium pressure games when we are on top. Not so much in congested, high pressure games where we are only getting 50% of the play (or less).

Possibly borne out of necessity given the style of our tall forwards. Not sure it can change with the same personnel. And we got close enough in '17 for the club to feel comfortable continuing with the same system I'm sure

There will be tweaks, but they won't compromise what brought us to the dance. Gallucci and Knight/Greenwood spending more time forward will be able to make up that ground ball differential, without having to change structure too much.

I agree with DABM that we will beat up on shite teams with our forward line but the problem is in high pressure games when things don't go to plan and it's a scrap and applying pressure and covering ground becomes more important

Scarred by GF and our insipid forward line when it mattered

Gov becomes super important because realistically he's our only forward that can go to another level

No, we beat up on both good & poor teams... such that we were a 3 goal better team than anyone else.

Sure we messed up on grand final day badly, but we missed Gov, JJ had busted ribs, CC an early corkie & our midfield was beaten.

We lost games last year when our midfield was beaten, not because our forward line failed.

I reckon we should send Sloane to cover CC. He can rotate through the mid field without a tag.
We have others to cover Sloanes midfield slot. Gibbs is the obvious one and more time for Greenwood. Gooch, Poholke, Gibson, Dougie, Knight, Hampton, Atkins, CEY, Laird, & Milera are all capable of nailing themselves a spot in the midfield rotations. We get 2 of the younger guys in that list to take the next step up and show some "organic growth" and we will at last be starting to see some flexibility through the midfield.
Sloane REALLY impresses in the forward line and will bring defensive pressure in spades. His footy smarts would tie the forward line together perfectly.
The picks we missed for tiprat are really telling. Another 1 or 2 decent mids out of the 4 picks we missed are hurting.

Our midfield will be on improve , not sure re our forward line

I reckon this will be Gov's break out year.

Sadly I think Tex will struggle. But it will be Gov who picks up the slack.
As much as I love Tex I can see Gov being a better forward due to his sticky hands.

For me this is an improvement in out forward line from last year.

Yep I'm totally on this train as well

Tex JJ and to a lesser extent Betts will be on gradual decline

McGovern on the up

It probably should be focussed on when stats matter. ie low/medium pressure games and the difference between those and high pressure games and losses.

Same as the Contested stat. When do we shine and when do we not? Thats when stats matter , when they show what happens at diamond making time.
