Good morning draft experts!

Just popping in to say, it's 9:15pm here in Ireland and I'm sitting in a cozy little pub on my 3rd pint of Guinness! There are World Cup Qualifiers on the TV.

Beaut. Enjoy your day.

Slackarse, you can sit in a pub and watch WC at home. You can drink Guinness too, but i'd rather drink my own vomit.
Go out and see the Giant's causeway or fight of the oppression of the english or something.

Haha. Drinking Beamish and Murphy's where I can get it, but not complaining about Irish tap Guinness I can tell you! Especially when far from the cities in the Republic (not the North), where the pubs are pubs, the roads are narrow, the beer is like nectar poured fresh from the fields and the music is the real deal.

I went to the North for a few days in 2016. Drove up around the top. Loved it.

Doing a lap of the outside plus Britain, Wales and Scotland.

Old persons tour.

Brilliant. Sounds like a good way to do it.

Get off and do a ParkRun somewhere. I did one here last week near Galway, nearly froze my ducking bollocks off, but worth it.

RE: kicking efficiency stats, from memory any kick of 40m or longer only has to arrive at a 50/50 (or better) situation to count as "effective". Shorter kicks must reach the intended target to count as "effective". So for example, Robbo kicking long to a contest out of defence counts as "effective".

Nice. Yeah I'm mega keen to see the locations etc up there, also to get a sense for the vibe, next time though. I've been here a few times in the last few years (my wife is Irish born), but haven't made it North as yet, as commitments and so much to see down here.

Is there a wall up there? Do they remember or forget?

My point is that trout and co could see him as a future winger...

No 18yr old is a finished product, this bloke may havs bundles of talent and be a superstar
look im always one to let the professionals do what is best for our club with bringing players to the club but after last years left of field out of nowhere picking of Long my confidence is a tad shakey ... thats not to say Long wont be a good player for us long term but on the body of evidence so far it looks as though we muffed that pick - i can accept that with last years pick but this year with 2 top 10 picks its vital we nail these picks and risking one on a late bolter who really doesnt fix our need for a lightning fast x-factor mid im not keen on ... some time i think we try to be too smart for our own good with drafting .. i just want us to keep it simple...

I'm really undecided about Trout still. He got Billings who was a safe bet and the expected pick but jumped early on Mc Cartin who hasn't worked out so far. He got Gresh but again he was the next best mid still available. We have traded out of plenty of second rounders and traded back so it's hard to say he's no good. We really need some star players though or I would almost move him on.

Yesterday Walden said we don't have any stars since Roo and Joey retired and he's right in as much as most of our talent that will be stars as in elite talent are not there yet. Roberton, Steven and Ross probably the three established players that are closest but Steven the only one that would be a genuine close to top 50 player ATM.

I think Trout has a talent for spotting the guys with low failure rates but doesn't rate individual brilliance as much as other recruiters do. I see Brayshaw as Trout's ideal- safe that he'll play 150+ decent AFL games but with no real glitter or bag of tricks to make him stand out. Stephenson probably his nightmare, flashy, individual, a bit FIGJAM and can win a game off his own boot or be selfish at other times.

He seems to like bargain hunting though and looks for guys who have a bit of upside left but could have been higher if other things went right such as Acres and Goddard. Maybe that's the Bonar link.

I really hope we find some elite talent this draft, we have been unlucky so far and we need Gresh and Billings at least to move from potential to elite.

You know I love you but that is nonsense.

There is a clear strategy in rebuilding the list by having a balance of player types.

Then you have to match your goals with what is available. And sometimes a specific type may not be a good option, so you take next best available rather than stretch and take a pick 50 player with your first round.

Hence the reason why we have drafted the way we have.

As for Billings, you claim it was a safe pick... are you suggesting he should have passed on him and taken a riskier player?

My questions for this year are:

What is the priority?

Will they take leg speed and foot skills?

Will they just keep stuffing the list with best available?

How much emphasis will be placed on needs over best quality?

If they just want best players with speed and endurance, then expect a left field pick.

If they want ongoing class then expect a Bradshaw type.

Best thing about 2 picks is that we can take an each way bet.

What did he post mate?

That some clubs are wavering on Stephenson because he has a medical condition with his heart, that requires regular pharmaceutical treatment.

We hired a car just for the North, was told by the girl in the hire car booth to be careful near the border or i can accidentally drive across ( where i wouldn't have been covered for insurance ). So i guess its not "much" of a wall. Flew in flew out , used GBPound, didn't notice anyone acting disgruntled.
There's a fairly good "Titanic" exhibition at Belfast. Driving up around the Northern Coast , think Great Ocean Road, but with stone buildings and Villages that seem just slightly more rustic than Apollo Bay. :D

Who do you like instead of Long?

The highlights of Jack Petruccelle are as good as they get. He has everything and made me moist. Reminded me a lot of Fyfe + extra pace. He just explodes and has a great leap with great hands.

It led me to look into why he's not touted as a top 10 pick as he certainly has the tools per the vids of seen. From what I've read, he is inconsistent, in and out of games, averaging just 9 disposals at the Champs and 15 at TAC Cup levels. His kicking at TAC cup was at a DE of 55%. A bit raw given his background so could come on but speculative and landing him in the second round most likely.

You have to give him massive credit for Gresham. Gresham was seen as too small for AFL by many scribes on social media and in the mocks. I myself wasn't sold on him. Massive credit to barrels and trout on that one. They picked it.

He's our 3rd youngest players from memory and is starring. I think it was barrels who posted his goal count and age. That tells the story.

The kid is star star star. You watch when we need a spark. It's usually gresh who provides it.

Billings also wasn't a safe bet. The safe bet was Aish in that draft. Next safe bet was scharenberg even with his foot issues if you remember the commentary back then.

Here's what I reckon takes balls: overlooking the hype that was on petracca to address the crucial part of your list build to pick a tall. A tall who didn't play much football that year due to niggling injuries. A tall that was seen as fat and a throw back to old football. A diabetic as well. The media love a good bust story.

But here's the thing. It's easy to find petraccas. Every club gets them and they don't have to use pick 1 to find them. But not every club can find a tall forward. If we got petracca then we wouldn't have got Steele given he was looking for game time.

Who do you want Steele and McCartin or petracca. Hell even Steele vs Petracca. I'll take Steele thanks.

Trout did alright on membrey Bruce calls as well. Longer another. Roberton. Newnes. Ross.

Our club is the best trader by a pretty decent margin. We just need a handful more players to come through and be consistent players.

Tbh I think it's more player development than the actual recruiting

I seem to recall a lot of talk about James Aish. Very glad we got Billings.
In hindsight I'd prefer Crouch to Dunstan, and that's something that perhaps could have been foreseen, very sure it wasn't a personal call by trout though.
Acres was a reasonable choice compared to others available.
Eli didn't make it , but he was well worth trying as a rookie.
McKenzie in front of Toby McLean was a miss. Lonie in front of Daniel too for that matter. What is it about the Bulldogs finding better picks after ours?
Funnily we also had Lonie in front of Sinclair , who seems to be a great rookie choice.
Gresham miles in front of Clark, Tucker, Balic etc.
Not sure why we drafted O'Kearny, what we could have expected that he didn't deliver.
2016 TBD

The reviews have things like"tour great but need more ramps for my frame" and " hotels lovely but needed room fridges for our medication"

Doing it easy as almost killed the missus in 2015 with a Central European tour walking about 20-25 ks a day.

Will look to knock a few oldies off by taking them for runs

Melbourne would of taken Paddy with pick 3 if we didn't take him with 1 that is why we didn't trade picks with GWS it wasn't a reach he was a clear top 3 pick best forward in the draft one of the most dominate TAC forwards ever its like saying Brayshaw was a reach at 2 because he has had concussions.
We have the youngest team in the league give them some time to move from solid B graders to elite

Biggest miss was Powel-Pepper last year. We should have kept our pick.
