Nearly every "team needs" article I've seen has said we need another ruck. Same was said last year, but the club seem more than happy to let O'Brien continue to develop in the SANFL, and the fact that we kept Hunter on the rookie list would indicate to me we don't see it as a priority position.

That's because he media, especially outside SA, dont know enough about ROB, essentially because Jacobs has been so resilient.

Ruckman commonly play well into their 30's, so Jacobs will still be around for a while and at this stage the club clearly doesn't want to be forking out the big bucks for a back up.

I suspect the club feels comfortable at this stage that ROB will be a decent Jacobs replacement when the time comes and if not, that they could find one via trade/FA.

Our ruck stocks are fine, I suspect we'd look at CCJ if he's available with our later picks, otherwise I doubt we'd be actively targeting a ruckman specifically.

Yea, I got the feeling, having just read Gary Buckernara's recent needs list, one that said we should look at getting another ruck, either threw the draft of by signing Jake Spencer, that he doesn't watch us much. Also said we should throw McGovern down back to cover for Lever and turn him into Version 2 of his brother and replace Gov with Otten up forward. Add losing Cameron and our forward line wouldn't have a chance in hell of keeping the ball in our 50 if that happened.

That's a good thing. When his mind is switched in, Stringer is a pure gun.
He is, but he's always going to be a forward. I sincerely hope Fogarty gets here and becomes a big mid that he wants to but I do have doubts.

Well done DIT!

Get Sam Taylor up the order ! Actually don't as I'd be very happy with him at pick 39

Taylor’s an interesting one. I can absolutely see him making it, but I don’t know if I can see him being more than a solid KPD. He could well be, but I rate the likes of Petty and Clavarino higher.

IMO Petty would be a great get .... has an attacking mindset and some footy nous

If you'd said that last year re Claravino in his under age season that would have been a fair analysis, but watching him this year he's become a much more complete defender, intercepting marking now a feature and always looking to move the ball on quickly to transition out of defence. Go and look at footage of last year and compare it with this year...different player. Way, way better kick than both Talia and Hartigan and decision making Hartigan could only dream about. Personally I think Petty and Claravino would both be good gets at our 2nd pick but I'd say there's doubts about them lasting to that pick.
I got Clavarino at 55 for the Suns in the BF phantom draft, so anything is possible

61. Jake Patmore
62. Jack Payne
63. Ethan Floyd
64. Noah Answerth
65. Tom North
66. Mitch Podhadjski
67. Ethan Penrith
68. Harrison Jones
69. Mitch Crowden
70. Alex Martini
71. Bailey Henderson
72. Jordan Butts
73. Joely Amartey
74. Stefan Giro
75. Hugh Dixon
76. Bailey Griffiths
Already had Dixon in there, but yep I've definitely considered those names. Floyd, Butts and Angus Styles were very stiff not to make my 60

I am not sure why we would possibly look past Clavarino at 39 if he is on the table. Thats looking a gift horse in the mouth type of stuff. Unless we have taken Brander at 12 like some are suggesting. We need a squad replacement for Lever and Clavarino is the only name that is not being mentioned as a possible first rounder that I like to fill that role. I really dont see that much between Brander and Clavarino in terms of their potential. Doesn't Brander have a slightly odd kicking action? If Brander was in the Vic Metro team I wonder who would have looked the better player. Is Brander really that much better than Clavarino. I am not saying I wouldn't want Brander, he looks good. But Balta looks just as good and Clavarino looks to have as clean hands as either of them if not cleaner. I would have no problems if we drafted Brander or Balta. But I think a spectacular outcome would be if we somehow managed to draft Coffield/Fogarty/Clarke AND Clavarino, rather than Brander/Balta and ??

Seems to me that there are three pretty good KPDs that will go in the first round and not much to really split them. So I kind of feel that the value of pick 12 will be diluted if we end up with the first of these three and somebody with pick 18-20 gets the third.

Does anybody expect houlihan will still be available at our 2nd pick?
Doubt it

Edit: Just saw Snoop Dog's phantom with Houlahan going to Port at 45. But I would still bet on him being gone before 39.

Think there's a fair bit of underrating re Claravino personally, I can really only see one area in his game that needs some work, that's holding his position in 1 on 1 marking contests with the "gorillas" and that's down to body strength which will easily be fixed in a professional environment. I think as a defender Claravino is the real deal.
I agree. I reckon he can spend the first few years developing as a KPD in the SANFL, whilst being given a few taster games possibly at AFL level as a 3rd tall. I reckon he’d be a bargain at a pick in the 30’s/40’s now

If we were going to get a tall, I’m sure we’d grab Naughton over Brander in that scenario

Great effort. Of those after our pick, Spargo and CCJ stand out most to me. Team needs aside, I would jump at Spargo at 39, and CCJ has fallen significantly, but as a mobile ruck/fwd, he could very well turn heads in 5 years or so.

Do you rate Spargo lower due to his disposal and size? For mine, his footy brain should put him in the box seat for anyone who needs a productive small fwd/mid.
