Possible 3-way trade if Lever goes:

Crows
In: Gibbs, collingwood's 2018 1st rd (8-12)
Out: Lever, 2018 2nd (32-36)

Collingwood
In: Lever, carlton's 2018 2nd (19-23)
Out: pick 6, 2018 1st

Carlton
In: pick 6, Adelaide's 2018 2nd
Out: Gibbs, 2018 2nd

Values Gibbs roughly around pick 11. Feels like collingwood giving up a lot to me, but Brett Anderson seems to trade similar to the Treloar one is possible if Lever goes to pies, and this is slightly better than that.

Dan Menzel is not being offered a contract for next year.

I don't particularly want him but I wonder if that means Geelong are ******* confident that they will have Gablett next year
Would we really want a medium forward that virtually offers zero defensively, it's well known that's what the Geelong coaching hierarchy have problems with re Menzel??

Can we please let Gibbs go? We dont need him, he isnt worth a first rounder for 2 years of football and we also lose a second in that deal.
So Jake is worth two firsts from Collingwood, but we miss out on a first AND give up a second in a strong draft?
Crazy.

It's a match made in heaven for Port. Will kick goals when they're pantsing a dud team at home. Awol the rest of the time.

I'd actually put a sneaky wager on both Menzels being at Port next year.

IIRC Balic was meant to be a top 15-20 pick. At 38 they could afford to take the risk for his talent. Unfortunately it hasn't paid off

If they get a first for him, or even an early second then the pick was worth it.

They absolutely will not get that for him

3rd rounder probably

Then yes, not worth it. Still it's a draft pick not too far off Ballic so they haven't lost too much at least.

If Cameron chooses to leave, I think Hampton could play Camerons role well. Hampton from memory was playing a super defensive high pressure game in the midfield and people were questioning his possession count.

Greenwood to take Govs role if Gov wants to leave
Hampton into Camerons role if Cameron wants to leave

This would give us 2 genuine options for forward / mid rotations, 2 high pressure players to keep the ball in the F50 to help Betts out, Hampton is pretty quick and Greenwood has a great overhead mark like McGovern. Hampton is a much better field kick and shot for goal than Cameron too.

A grade mid into Greenwoods role through trade / FA

Greenwood & Gov ain't the same sort of player

Greenwood will be a versatile mid

Make it this years 2nd then, I don't think it's too far off. We need to keep looking at ways to improve while our window is open, if not Gibbs then someone else.

Hampton for Cameron seems OK

Greenwood for Guv not so much

I see no sense in taking Greenwood out of the midfield, he will be a special player after another pre season.

I think we'd have Cameron's position covered pretty easily, Galluci, Knight, Hampton and Menzel as starters may slot in there easily at the start of the year.

To an extent McGoverns position would be filled easily, in that we kind of had to manufacture a position to fit him into side in the first place, he's a bit of an "icing on the cake" type player. Our forward line would still structure well and we'd be able to fit another running/midfielder type into the side. Having said that he we would miss his contested marking, none of our 3 other talls are particularly strong in this regard, however to realistically replace this, we'd probably have to replace one of Walker, Lynch or Jenkins too, as Gov is pretty unique with his pace, tackling/defensive pressure and strong marking.

Levers the hard one at present, I guess we'd be looking at either of Keath, Doedee or Cheney. Might even need to look at trading in someone as well to cover.

I do agree with that, but his best position is as an inside mid. Sloane, Crouches and Greenwood are also more than solely inside mids, but all of them have the same best position. Gibbs, on the other hand, majorly thrives in the inside/outside role.

Again, I'm not saying don't go after Rocky, as he adds depth and is free of cost, but if it came down to a choice, give me Gibbs.

I agree that Gibbs fits our midfield profile better, however when you look at cost, I think I almost lean towards Rockliff given Gibbs would likely cost a 1st rounder and then some versus nothing. It's not simply Rockliff vs Gibbs, it's Rockliff + 1st rounder +/- 2nd rounder/player vs Gibbs.

Again I'm also not averse to getting both, as I can see our time is the next 3 years and there's a few clubs with pretty impressive midfields who could be scary good if they get the rest of their games right. We're also extremely vulnerable to a midfield injury or god forbid 2 injuries.

Bit of an interesting rumour Iv heard this morning surrounding Collingwood & us

If the media start to make a bit of noise early this week i will share to save myself looking stupid now
