I saw a tweet a few weeks ago that suggested that Troy Menzel was to be selected as a DFA for Gold Coast Suns. This was a weeks or so before he was even delisted from Adelaide. Has anybody heard similar?
Yeah I heard we were interested nothing since but. Wouldn’t surprise me if we rookied him.

So a number of delisted free agents are popping up.
Howlett, hocking, crameri, mullet, wellingham, hartung, t.menzel, n.graham, A.swallow, d.menzel.

These are a few blokes out of contract or delisted that we could sign a DFA's.

Not 100% sure which players we have out of contract or likely to be delisted but I feel a number of these players would be better then some of our fringe guys such as Shaw.

In reality we would be only looking at 1 maybe 2 max.

Lonergan, McKenzie, Schoenfeld, Willis, Currie, Shaw, Rischatelli, MacPherson - are our out of contract players.

Shouldn’t be too long until our final delistings are announced.

Edit: Forgot Darcy Mac

I'd keep Lonergan, McKenzie and schoenfeld, possibly Rischa but would rather he retire or go on the rookie list.
So cut Shaw, Willis, Currie.
Plus the 5 already delisted
Ablett, Matera, Saad.
That's 11 out.
In comes weller, Wigg, young.
So we have 5 spots left if we don't axe anymore.
Draft 4 including Crossley.
Yeah I'd definitely bring in A.swallow and probably drop the 3 mentioned for mullet, crameri and maybe bird/howlett.

Besides Swallow, bringing in anyone else is just a waste of list spots. Every year there are these Delisted free agents and besides 1 or at very most 2 they all got delisted for a reason. We have to draft 3 players anyway.

This guy sounds right up our alley...
Tackling machine with clean skills in our draft range..
21 West Coast - Lachlan Fogarty
Height, Weight:
179cm, 73kg
Summary Profile: Hard-nosed midfielder who loves to tackle and possesses clean skills. Western's best player in each of his last three games, where he amassed 36 tackles collectively.

My rankings for realistic players available at the pick based on Suns needs would be:

1. Zac Bailey
2. James Worpel
3. Lachie Fogarty

Please elaborate

1. Zac Bailey

Pros: good clearance player, good tackler, clean hands, quick burst from stoppages - has that Rory Sloane style
Cons: lacks a bit of penetration and accuracy on kicks, doesn't seem to have the flexibility to play effectively in a position outside of inside mid, not overly big

2. James Worpel

Pros: Physically ready to go, good pace, leader, good inside mid, clean hands - reminds me a bit of Rhys Mathiesen
Cons: Not a great kick, question mark over how much development is left in him

3. Lachie Fogarty

Pros: Smart footballer, good contested game, high level tackler, can play as a small forward - reminds me of Oli Florent
Cons: sub 180cm, not great pace

This is why I’m so glad I wandered into BF. You can’t get good info like that anywhere else.

Cheers OB, gotta say we have cleaned a lot of guys out that can't kick.. pretty gun shy about recruiting anyone that doesn't possess it well, unless they have an elite point of difference such as extreme acceleration..

I really like this Bailey kid - I can just see him as a missing piece of our midfield puzzle

Another pro for him is he is an NT kid so no 'go home' factor

Check out the below Vid if you want to get a better feel for him

Think we should take Worpel based on him being more physically ready to play next year. Also good leadership capabilities being the captain of Vic Country at National Champs

a bit of extra information taken from Knightmare 2017 draft thread
#13. James Worpel (VIC)

Best position: Inside midfield
Height, weight: 185cm, 84kg
Recruited from: Geelong Falcons
Projected draft range: First to second round.
Similar to: Josh P. Kennedy
September Ranking: 16
Rationale: Dominant stoppage specialist possessing size and a ready to go game. Rises as expectations of key position players drop.
Strengths:
Stoppage specialist
Powerful tackler
First possession winner
Contested ball winning
Clearance winner
Strong build
Strength through the hips allows Worpel to stand up when tackled and deliver a clean handball to a target without going to ground
Powerful fend offs
Courageous
Can hit the ball at speed and win it at full pace
Consistent performer
Acceleration
Agility
Leadership
Able to play forward and hit the scoreboard
Weaknesses:
Unreliable kick

Generally he guys that are the tough inside guys that have elite kicking skills are the ones at the top end of the draft. Where we are you need to choose either one or the other

Or not an inside mid at all... We got Brodie and Scheer last year... I like the sound of L Fogarty even though he is smaller, he apparently has good skills.. but oscar Allen or Noah Balta could well be good fits for us.. with a huge question mark over Sam Day, we have only two Key fwds... and both of these two draftees seem like they could start as a third tall as they develop, much like Charlie Curnow, who I wish we would have taken a couple of years ago..

Balta no Charlie Curnow - awesome athlete, not a natural footballer

Allen we should be all over if he is there at 19 - likened to Jack Gunston

Scheer as an inside mid at AFL level is debatable

Fogarty offers a bit more flexibility than the other 2, just really like what Bailey bring to the table. Has performed every step up that has been asked of him.

Have really liked this kid since the championships as well. Always seemed to be one of the best players for the Allies and was always in the action. It seems like all the inside mids around pick #19 have questionable kicking, but looking at those highlights he looks really good around the contest, is clean with his hands and has a bit of breakaway speed. If we do decide to go inside mid then either him or Worpel are the ones. Unless a slider comes along of course.

Wouldn't mind Fogarty either even though he is on the smaller side. 179cm didn't stop Prestia even with his average kicking.
