What’s stopping us from drafting Hanley or Beams??
Technically nothing and considering Beams came from the Gold Coast he'd fit the "come home" recruitment strategy.

On the other hand, you don't see much tampering with delisted players who are ear-marked for re-listing via the rookie draft. In the NFL, they call it the "waiver wire" where players can be claimed by other clubs after being cut, but the original club can then reclaim them if all other clubs pass on the opportunity, which strangely enough happens as frequently as in the AFL.

I'd say the lack of tampering is due to the fraternity of recruiters and agents, and players for that matter, who obviously communicate regularly and warn off others while seeming to risk delisting players that they intend to get back later.

Also why would we want either of them. Neither are going to improve our team and neither one of them fills and immediate need.
Correct, a lot of people have this love of getting everyone’s rubbish in the hope they will turn into gold!

I was looking to gather information About how we could get either of them if we were interested. I don’t really know what sort of quality they have. Don’t really ever watch Brisbane play.

Everyone is a Bottom Picker at heart.
But as the stock market, the DFA market and life suggests, bottom picking is mostly fools gold.
Get the odd one right (Barlow), get more wrong (Grant!).

I’m getting the general impression we are struggling for things to talk about at the moment
Unfortunately at this time of year not much is happening and since we had such a terrible trade period there’s not much to be excited about apart from the draft and since we threw our picks away even that’s not very exciting, as least if we had of traded pick 2 for 4 and Preuss from Nth then we would have something to get excited about, you need to hit the fast forward button to February

Bods, it will get fun again in the next couple of weeks when we delist some more players, draft in some mature talent and see where our delisted players go, if anywhere.........starts next week

I wonder who else is going to get delisted next week, a few still with there heads on the block it seems

You would think that the decision would be late in the process since Dew would need time to review players and provide some input. Who will fit with the type of game he wants to play? Something closer to the Swans than we currently play?

TMac? You do need good kicks out of defence. Swans have has that for years.
Darcy Mac? Swans have had a lot of success with smaller types who crack in.

The new rule about allowing normal rookies to play from game 1 also changes that equation. Could see Darcy Mac staying as a rookies, maybe even Rischa getting rookie drafted. No restrictions on picking a rookie list player will see a few clubs put established players on the rookie list after delisting them.

Preuss would be a great addition, but the reality is that Norf want him more than we do and the Suns are fairly stacked at the ruck position. The current depth chart is Witts, Currie, Nicholls, Wright, Leslie, and Crossley will make 6. Considering how much the Suns have spent on ruckmen over 7 seasons, roughly a draft pick per draft, you wouldn't want to go spending more. If injuries meant we had to send Jack Leslie in to pinch hit (he was recruited as a ruckman) then we'd have to consider moving on from some of the veterans.

I also have to disagree with your assessment of this year's trade period. The gambles taken are speculators that could turn out to be genius moves or total disasters. If West Coast win the 2018 Premiership, then our trade for their future 1st round pick looks dreadful, yet when they more than likely drop into the also ran zone a top 5 pick coming our way is a great return. Even the #40 that came from Freo with Weller could end up being a 200 gamer, or maybe another washout. With so many young players on the list, adding another batch so soon wouldn't benefit the team overall, while stacking up picks for next season gives the team options at a time when the new coach and current players have had a year to show what they can improve and who needs to be moved on.

You do realise Weller said he would come at the end of next season if freo didn’t come to the trade table? So we where always going to get Weller , instead our impatience has cost us pick 2 who could be anything , the west coast pick is separate to this deal as we would of got that trade done anyway . No one in there right mind can say we had a good trade period , Weller isn’t going to be the difference next year , he’s a 21yo kid for god sakes , going forward he is going to help us big time , but so could of LDU , we gambled a couple years back and traded the pick 4 thinking we get Clayton Oliver at pick 8 , that backfired big time , and we have made a mess here , how big a mess only time will tell.

I won’t be forgetting in a hurry the feeling of sudden nausea when I first heard we had caved in to Freo

People change their minds all the time, circumstances change in 12 months, I would rather not risk that happening and get a good kid that wants to be here than run the risk. A bird in the hand and so forth.

It doesn’t matter now the deal is done , all that remains is us suns fans removing the rusty particles from our backside from Freo shoving there anchor in .

Don’t worry despite my meltdown today I’ll be handing over my $1800 odd dollars although with all the games given away more likely about $1300 for next season.

I never said I was out what I said was it won’t be easy to hand the hard earned over this time round.

There will be no surrender, so many entitled people and clubs to eventually beat.

We are Gold Coast.

That sounds like a lounge pass..

HS article this morning with quotes from none other than Campbell Brown talking about his mate McKenzie , the upshot it sounds as though the Cannon might of fired his last shot at the Suns.

Yes , that's my mail, was on $500k big coin, makes a fair bit of room, apparently will only be on basic wage at Port
Matera was on similar coin too will be on $450k at Freo
With the delistings we have had plus Ablett, plus these two guys opens a bit of room up

Interesting, you have to fill 95% of the cap so i'm guessing most of that money is going to Lynch, May and Swallow
