We have really pruned hard in the playing and coaching ranks. Next year we need the injuries to stop if we are to make any improvement. If we have the same issues again we are looking at the spoon and another mass exodus. On the upside if injury doesn’t ravage us again Dew will have new talent to shape his game plan without the legacy of the same old failed players.

Your dead on Iva, the coaches have the same view, they need the list to stay on the park to get momentum and be competitive, the hardest part is the game style will be a lot more combative so fingers crossed

It's the Roos' mantra(Lyons too I guess)
Everyone hated his gameplay when he first got to Melbourne
Scrag tackle tackle scrag
I'll buy a season of gritty tackling lower scoring footy pain in 2018 for long term gain
As much as I'm sad to see TMac go it's hard to see him fitting into that gameplan
Not much room for a non-combative quarterback off half-back currently in our team

Any news on north with Swallow? Coz he is under contract if North don’t delist today he is locked there for next season?

What if they just de-list him to make roster room
Can we get him then and not have to pay his salary?
Maybe they just keep him around the Club as midfield insurance

He and North have to come to an agreement to rip up the final year of his contract and delist him, which both seemed keen to do during trades week.

But it all rests on whether we are wanting to bring him up?

With the new playing rules, I guess it might actually make sense to rookie draft him instead of using a senior spot? Can still play from Rd1.

I also heard North would contribute to his salary if we took him

I’m fairly certain he would have to be delisted today before the 1st list lodgement is submitted by clubs to the AFL by close of business today.

And if he is lodged on the Roos list today, I don’t think he can be removed.

So if nothing reported today, guessing we have passed on him?

Good footballer, plays the role we are inadequate in, great PR exercise in bringing the brothers together, would help drive some good standards, he may well just get up and about in a Suns uniform in a similar way to how Barlow and Lyons stepped up, would come to us cheap as chips.

I’m not sure the positives outweigh the negatives. You’re getting him for a year or 2 remember

Think he would be drafted in as leadership in s area we badly lack the midfield , with gaz gone it really does fall on the shoulders of swallow and Barlow , having a ex captain in there for a year or 2 to help the likes of Touk , Brodie , fiorini etc can’t do any harm.

Yeah I dunno, Seems hard where North are in the same position we are in yet are happy to let go experience to bring in youngsters.

A rookie ? how does that work , cause i cant see Andrew coming up here on a rookie wage , unless we can pay him full wage on rookie status , if that is the case the rookie system is really just blending in the the main list.

I dont know how the system works, but I'd assume that he might be able to collect a rookie wage from GCFC, and also a payment from NMFC since they'd be terminating his contract early for him to be eligible for the draft.

No need to upgrade Spencer yet. Can play seniors off the rookie list next season with new rules.

Leaves a senior spot to secure another mature player not expected to last to the rookie draft.

We can upgrade Spencer next year when he isn’t eligible to stay on the rookie list anymore (if he is still delivering the goods).
Could do same with Macpherson then - he can be retained as a rookie for a further year with his agreement.
Personally I'd be upgrading Spencer before Macpherson given a choice - Spencer is Category B rookie and can't play up automatically like category A rookies.
Maybe both are retained as category A rookies ??

I would assume it would be similar to Schade last year where we delisted him with a year to run on his contract in order to to re-rookie him before Collingwood came it. I think Collingwood took over the contract, unless we payed him out? Either way Im sure there would be someway we make it work for Swallow, North and us.

Scotty Clayton must have something up he's sleeve. We've delisted a lot of player and don't have a lot of picks. Looks unlikely we will get Swallow atleast on the senior list. He's got a good strike rate with rookies and likes a delisted free agent so i think we will pick up someone.
Probably pick up lachie Hanson and keefe. Where the good ones will go to other clubs ie mullet
