Enjoy those GF Priority Memberships while they are still cheap and get in quick. Ours have doubled in price since 2008 and still sell out altough now priced $450 - $950. You have to pay to be in the waiting list.
If the DOgs are serious about becoming a powerhouse, your memberships will be as expensive as Hawthorn/Collngwood very soon.
Is that inclusive of the membership or just the cost of the add on?

Because an 18 game adult social club membership does cost over $450 anyway. Without a designated seat.

What I'd like to see from next year onwards:

Social club membership add on restricted to at least an 11 game membership or above.

3/5 game memberships made priority 4. Fair to say about 2000 of our members missed out on the ballot - that some of those were full 11/18 game members for 10, 20, 30 years and yet - apparently - people holding 3 game memberships (some of them free from VU) were allocated tickets ahead of them is totally unfair.

I was one of those sort of supporters only a few years ago more due to the fact I never had time to attend the games so didn't actually take out membership. But once I initially joined as a 3 game member then graduated to family membership then all home games. Now I'm trying to get social club as well so it can and does happen. It helps that I've been able to get to more games and once you get on board the level of commitment grows. So hopefully we get some new members who stay for the long haul.
I have to also say that the difference between being a member and a supporter is profound. You do really feel like you are part of a bigger family when you are a member and I think the club does a good job most of the time in supporting its members. I love getting Bevo's message to the members after each game, I mean I really look forward to it and he brings you in and makes you feel almost a part of the team. I think it's sensational so if we get more supporters who actually sign up to become members I think they will really enjoy being considered a part of the "Bulldog Family". So to all those supporters out there who haven't joined up as members in the past I'm here to tell you that you will love it and it goes well beyond just attending the games and cheering the boys on, it's about being part of something bigger, part of a true family. So get on board for 2017 and beyond, you will never regret it.

I get what you're saying Guido, I truly do. BUT.......... (there's always one, isn't there? :D)

I joined as a full member with SC in early 2015. Prior to that, living 4.5 hours away, it was barely worth even a long distance membership to get to see 1, maybe 2 matches live. But things changed in 2015 and I was able to get to more games, so we took up the full package. The wife and I saw 11 last year (including flying to Brisbane). We renewed again, and got to 13 this year. Now of course this year was hideously expensive due to so many night games, meaning we'd have to stay in Melbourne, and I can't see next year being any different now. We're heavily considering buying a 5 game long distance membership next year with SC (if that's even possible, haven't checked yet), and then just purchasing tickets for any extra games we can manage to get to.

I know in comparison to what some fans have done this is comparative small fry, but should I and the wife miss out on the chance to continue to be SC members despite the fact we've done it for the last two years, and need to save a few $$$. (A weekend at the footy costs us well over $200 WITHOUT the membership cost, luckily I have a mate who manages a nice hotel and usually swings me a good deal, but this can't always be done!)

Totally agree. I have been a SC member for nearly 10 years now. I had great seats fortunately, but I know other SC members who didn't have the best in the house. Maybe it's a ticketek thing - they don't have details of how long people have been what sort of members or something. Maybe the club doesn't even have some of this historic info to give ticketek.

The SC members who didn't have the best seats in the house, were because you had the best seats in the house. There are only so many best seats to go around.

The allocation of seats couldn't have been fairer. Charlie Sutton members go the best seats as the membership said they would. Social Club members got the next best seats in the random order that they were drawn. You could tell by following the GF seat thread that the seats were allocated in category order from 1 to 7. Social club members ranged from category's 1 to 5. The general members got category's 5 to 7 and restricted view and standing room.
I don't know how much fairer you won't it.

Yes, you've been a social club members for many years, but we didn't make the GF in those years.

I dunno - I just hope we're not left behind either. I couldn't get to Sydney as I had another commitment with a friend. Lots of others couldn't go either. I actually felt like I had let the club down in some way because I couldn't get to Sydney after all the thanks these guys got. I would have loved to have been able to go. I'm not saying it wasn't great so many did stretch themselves to give their support (I mean, travelling on a bus up and back in 48 hours was a monumental effort) and it was fantastic we had so much support up there. But I want to feel recognised for doing something to support the club over all these years. I was there in '89. Put as much money as I could towards the club when they were trying to raise funds. I've been there on cold windy days with horizontal rain and monumental losses at the WO. Stuck with them through dark days. Just don't want success mean the club forgets where they have come from and who was there from the start - during the bad times as well as the good. Finals seating priorities would be one way to recognise this.

I don't know how you could come to that conclusion, that the club thought you had let it down.
Of course the people that travelled to Sydney should be acknowledged. But they shouldn't and didn't get any preferential treatment because of it.
What they got was one of the greatest memories of their lives.

What you got from being a member for a very long time, was the ultimate sense of gratification on Saturday, more than any member who joined up this year, last year or 5 years ago. You have supported the club and been through the very tough times, which makes Saturday's win so much more than a fly by nighter could have experienced.

You're right. Just sharing my feelings. And i still think of they could prioritize by length of service (so to speak) it would be fairer. And yes, maybe that means i would have been in the heavens but i doubt it. It's probably too hard to figure out. I guess that's the price you pay for success and don't get me wrong, never want to go back to those dark days again.

Of course. I don't regret anything about Saturday for a second, but next GF, I'll be paying for a corporate ticket as insurance rather than relying the fickle randomness of a ballot. The occasion is too important to mess around and hope for the best with ballots.

I don't think it would be that hard to prioritise length of service, as I think we were emailed a form to complete a fair few years back to update their database.
We live 300km away and have 5 game SC. Doesn't mean we are any less passionate, just logistically we can't always get to games.
The AFL seriously need to look at the ticket distribution IMO.

I agree with you on priority by length of service. Supporting the club through thick and thin is what its all about.
As a SC member the ballot gave me nose bleed section of southern stand for the GF which was a little disappointing but hey I was there to see it so I'm still ecstatic. I feel for longtime members who didn't get a ticket.
I got a little pin from the club for my 25 years of continuous membership which is great but I would much rather an upgrade in priority for GF seating!
Now that the club is being inundated with new members and SC is at capacity, a loyalty incentive program should be set up to keep members on long term rather than only for a few years during our success.

I agree with some of the sentiments being expressed here on recognising years of membership, the 'fairness' of the ballot, etc. A few points though:

1 - Let's just be appreciative that we're in a situation where people want to buy membership! We won the Premiership! This is what happens and it's a good thing!

2 - Some have already responded to the suggestion that GF tickets be only available to those with 'full' membership (i.e. more than the 3 game membership, etc). I've purchased my own membership since joining the Navy in 2003 and getting my own pay check, been posted everywhere but my hometown in Melbourne...The best way I can support the Dogs and personally make the most of it without going for one of the corporate memberships is through the interstate 5-game membership. Did I believe we were going to make the GF every year since 2003? Hell yes I did! Just ask immortalmike! So I purchased the EJ Social Club add-on and even the Charles Sutton Premiership Circle this year. Just because I don't have the full 11 H&A membership surely doesn't make me less entitled to attend the GF?

3 - Some long-time members are assuming those that purchased the Social Club / Premiership Circle add-ons are 'bandwagon jumpers', which have made them miss out. Maybe they were long-time members like you but who were quicker in upgrading?

4 - I think the ballot is fair as it can be. Sure you could argue that long-term members should be given priority over newly joined members, but if these long-time members were already lucky enough to go this year, does this mean that they forego that priority next year to allow someone else the joy of attending a GF?

5 - The issue is with the AFL not releasing more tickets to participating clubs. We all know it - let's not take it out on the Club or each other.

I renewed this afternoon my silver reserve membership and EJ Whitten Social club.

Very good idea to get in early.

These Hawk ones are 11 game memberships with reserved seats for 6/7 of those games. Not great value aside from the guaranteed GF ticket. We have Priority 2 for around $350 - $500 and the rest are all priority 3. No P2 member has ever missed a GF ticket thought.

I was and had been for a few years a cheer squad and SC member at the start of this year, but due to finance at the time I had to reduce my membership, now I'm happy for it because by doing that I was able to get myself sorted and by the time finals rolled around I was able to buy a GF ticket.

But when I went to upgrade yesterday there was a waiting list, now for the club it's great and I couldn't be happier. I wouldn't change making the hard call back then to get myself in a better position, I kinda feel sick about it now.

But what can you do? I much rather our club being in this position.

I couldn't think of a worse idea than priority by length of membership. Sometimes people just can't afford it.
Not to mention the fact that it's an arbitrary cut off for members who might have missed a year here and there.

I have family members who went overseas for a year, cancelled their membership in say October and then in March or whatever got a distance membership. They then returned back to Melbourne in a new address and bought a new membership. Technically, their membership card says "Member since 2014" or whatever. Should they miss out for that reason?

Just renewed the family membership but was too late to get Social Club added on unfortunately. Should have done it last week when I originally decided to do it but I didn't know it was even open to do so. Anyway, I'm on the waiting list so hopefully at some point we get to upgrade.

Go Doggies!!
