I could rationalize Brander if we rate him and decide to go tall, otherwise would prefer Coffield or Fogarty.

Would be very concerned with Stephenson or Naughton. I don’t think Balta would be considered TBH.

Regarding Brander, watching him through the nationals as a defender and I thought no way is he a top five pick. Then he played that one game as a forward against VM and he smashed them, Balta was on him a little and had no answer, VM had no answer. He was untouchable that day.

The other tall I really liked from the nationals was Hugh Dixon. Old style tall that doesn't have the athletic attributes of Brander but is so smart and a beautiful kick. Just keeps kicking goals.

I would wet my pants if we managed to land those two.
I would rather take Dixon to be honest haha. You’re right he’s not athletic but I think he makes up with his skill and game sense. Does the little things really well, I’d be happy to take him at 38.

I think Wooller will be the other tall we’ll be keen on. Captains of Oakleigh always seem to be on our radar.

I reckon I'm on the same page here TRS.

If we go Brander I'm comfortable that he is considered the best KP in the draft and has the ability to play at either end. Whilst his highlights don't look great, the highlights from the game v Vic Metro showed something when he played forward. He just looked like he knew where to lead from that clip.

Fogarty looms as that guy that can play a shorter KP role forward or go into the middle or play across half back and I like the way he attacks it.

Coffield just looks like he has the composure and head for AFL. If we knew we could land reasonable KP types later in the draft then I'm ok with him at 6 too.

They are the three for me at 6.

Dont like Stephensens disposal. If Petty or Clavarino can be had for 38 then id go either of Coffield or Fogarty. Wouldnt surprise me if we took brander or stephenson

and I would not Complain with that

I reckon Fogarty will offer our midfield that real brute force point of difference and has the added bonus of being able to use him forward or back.
If they can work on Fogarty's endurance I think that can happen. The midfield is his weakest position on the field currently, because of it. If we pick him up he will probably start in the forward line and I was happy with that a few weeks ago, but going back and looking at some of his footage he plays really well in the backline.

Don't count Coffield out in playing Fwd/Mid/Back too, has proven he can play all three (again midfield probably the weakest) and he adds skill, pace and smarts. Right now I would be happy with either selection but trying not to get my hopes up because we will probably draft someone completely different.

You know what really pisses me off, we have a great draft coming up and it just so happens that we are after a great AFL player who will likely cost us our next 2 firsts.

Damn our timing.
If GC finish at the bottom again and we can push for finals I reckon we can use the FA system to our advantage to get them a great compo pick and only one of our firsts (for a lesser player, maybe Fiorini?)

On the other hand if Gold Coast stink it up and we return to finals we might just walk away with Lynch with no trade cost thanks to the strength of the draft.

Bottom 2 for GC, 8th for us and the dream is in play.

"Pies have met with naughton"... pisser. Bit of a smokescreen by Dekka maybe to force Freo's hand.

I think we'll take Coffield or Fogarty at 6, though I think Freo could pounce on Fogarty at 5 if he's still there.

Feel Stephenson is the other chance for us, with Bonar the smokey, whilst I agree that Cerra may be the one to slide...

It's interesting isn't it? Quite often on draft night you hear the kids say they spoke to the team they get drafted to "once" and generally "a fair while ago"... I reckon as a recruiter you could ask these kids who they've been speaking to recently, and count them out of the race.

It'd definitely be a good tactic to make us look like getting one of the players who we rather 7th to 10th, but surely other clubs would see straight through it.

AFL are gonna block this if we try it. Rightly so.

How can they block it and why?

It's within the rules for the Gold Coast to accept FA compensation and not match and if they finish second last again they may well feel pick 3 in a strong draft is the better outcome and the AFL who'll change rules on a whim anyway to suit the situation might well award them another pick also.

His manager is Paul Connors if Tom wants to get to Collingwood he gets to Collingwood.......simple.

I was talking about purposely trading them overs for another player so that they don't force us to trade for Lynch.

ie. as suggested by Apex, they take the compensation for Lynch and we give them our first pick for Fiorini. They get two first picks for Lynch essentially. AFL should block the Fiorini deal.

Even then though, they are getting unders for Lynch. Less than two first picks when he's worth two and more.

I don't see a realistic scenario where the Suns simply accept the compo pick rather than forcing us to trade, unfortunately. Only hope is if we can blow them out of the water with the contract. Though that's not very hopeful to me as we are over paying for an already over valued type of player.

The AFL will do what’s in the best interests of it’s baby. If Lynch decides to leave and we can construct a deal that would leave GC better off letting him walk rather than enforcing a trade, I have absolutely no doubt they’ll approve it. This is an organization that makes the rules up as it goes along we’re talking about here.

Mate, if they aren’t gonna block pick 2 for Weller, they won’t block pick 10ish for Fiorini (and maybe a third or something superficial to make it look better)

Maybe. But i think in that scenario the Suns are still accepting less than market value for Lynch. I think that's unlikely.

Would be great if it did happen.

Two first rounders with nothing in return would go down as one of the most expensive trades in history, even if those picks were around 10ish.

The question is what’s more valuable to GC? Those two mid range firsts, or a top 3 pick and one of those firsts, with a fringe player and superficial pick being given up in return?

Looking at next years top 3, I know what I’d want. Obviously all this is moot until we find out where each team finishes next year.

Pick 6: After a quiet Trade Period the Pies head to the draft with a nice selection at No.6. Who will get through? And who will they target? Shoring up their tall stocks seems a priority and West Australian defender Aaron Naughton has emerged as a genuine top-10 chance after a strong end to the season with Peel Thunder at WAFL level. Collingwood could do with some extra reinforcement in the key stocks at both ends and Naughton's season suggests he is one of the best options of 2017.

Around the mark: Sam Hayes, Darcy Fogarty, Jarrod Brander

You'd have to think pick 61 could be a live pick now given that we traded for pick 70.
Be great if that’s the case - how many more delistings do we need in order to enable this? So far only Keeffe and White off senior list, and Murray, Cox, Thomas on to senior list?

Thomas does not need to be upgrading this year, can stay on the rookie list and play round one.
