That would feel about right GP.
Depending what we did with our first three picks , if they were all genuine mids I could live with him going at 32 but 37 feels about right.

He impressed me when I watched him live.

Wouldn’t be to unhappy if Wce snared Stoddart or Petruccelle at Pick 32 or 37 + ..

Is it just me or am I thinking that Allen is a Bob Cunis type. He was a medium fast bowler and like his name suggests, neither one thing nor the other.

If we want a KPF at 13 to replace JK, then get one. Allen is not it.
If we want a midfielder at 13, then get one. Allen is not it.
If want a smaller forward at 13, then get one. Allen is not it.
If we want a second/third forward to replace Darling, then Allen is our man.

I am not going to be happy with Allen unless O'Brien is absolutely sure he can play midfield and Simpson is absolutely sure he will prioritise develop time and opportunity in midfield.

I am really liking the idea of Higgins for us at 13. Also liking the views that Constable and O'Brien are drifting out (not happy L Fogarty is firming but hey).

This is fluid but:
13 - Higgins (but still preferring Clark)
21 - Constable/O'Brien/L Fogarty
26 - Kelly/Bailey/Worpel or one of above still there and possibly Ballard
32 - Spargo or Moore or Daniels
37 - Miller or Stoddart or Houlahan
69 - de Koning
83 - Schloith or Banfield
R - Jones
R - a smokey

3. Pavlich if drafted now, would not be as successful. Secondly at no stage has Allen ever shown he will be anything like the goal kicker that Pav was.

Everything else you said went out the window with the one statement. The guy is one of the greats, played across 15 years of AFL and was one of the most adaptable players ever. Take your hand off it.

And the average height of KPF and KPD has gone up by 4-5cm since he was drafted. He would still likely be a very effective player, however i don't think he would be as effective if drafted now, as back at the turn of the century.

Skill, tallent, work rate > height.

He didn't get to his standing in the game based on height. And would still give any defender fits.

Rance is 2cm taller than him and is the "best" defender in the game. Nearly identical size and shape.

I reckon if Swans pass on constable at 14, there is a sneaky chance he slips to us in the second round.

Wishful thinking but imagine a start to the draft of

13) Hunter Clark
21) Constable
26) Tim Kelly
Don't see why the swans would be looking at constable. They are lacking leg speed in the middle, JPK, Parker, Hanners, Henney are all great players but none of them are fast. Would be wanting speed first and foremost surely

Nope my understanding the debate as to SPP v Venables went down to the wire ...... the day of the draft.
The "debate internally" is a sanitised polite version...... this call caused some angst among the recruiting team, with two very divided camps within the team.

angst would surely only be from side whose player didn’t get selected. Which must be WA recruiters. But surely everyone can get over it. Decision was made and judging by recruitment of wa and non wa players, there are plenty of bad selections they can all argue over. How much did wa recruiters know about venables to have the arguement?

Personally don’t know how good of a player venables will be, but SPP hacking of the ball and turning it over under pressure in the final this year made me see why many recruiters didn’t bother. This is all made out as though he was some star that clubs didn’t know about because he is from wa.

If he's good enough, I still think Allen would be suited to a role in the post-Kennedy world.

We'd have a big ruck-forward playing close to goal, and Allen and Darling rotating through the 50 and leading up the wings.

I still want a mid though. I'm still keen for Higgins.
Let me say I think Allen is a good player and will make it. I agree he will be useful in ours or any other team but do we need him? We have Waterman who will do that role with Darling. That is the problem I have - we have depth and saying he is best available is fooling yourself and this will reek of bad list management to add to a strength/depth.

I don't want him. But I don't think we can rely on waterman and darling for our post-Kennedy world. Ideally we could get an actual big KPF, but Allen would be ok.

Ideally there is a good mid available at 13 and then we can grab 1 or 2 talls in the ND, and 3 talls total out of 9 selections this year.

1. No I don't rate the role Lynch plays at the crows.
2. Stringer is a power player, Allen is nothing alike.

The game may be about running and quality rotations however to succeed at the top level you have to have a role in a side, be able to succeed at that role and for that role to drive the team forwards. As i said, i wish the kid the best of luck, but i don't rate him at all and thoroughly hope we don't draft him.

Allen was average before the national carnival, was very good during it and has been average since the national carnival. I don't rate him in the top 5 tall prospects this year and he will almost certainly not be a tall at AFL level yet some people want to spend a first round pick on him. I can't see him being successful.

Pav was AA mid?? He was dominant.

But it's not like this draft is the only opportunity ever we have to draft a key forward to replace Kennedy. We need mids to fix our toilet midfield now.

I agree that mids need to be the focus. I'd be happy with 5 of our 9 draftees being mids. But we will need to bring in at least 1 ruck, 1 KPF and 1 KPD either this year or next.

Next year i would think about a kennedy replacement. Not much key position talent this year but supposed to be a lot more next year.
I agree, mids are number one problem right now.
Maybe just go for Kreuger later in the draft.

I am confident we wont draft Allen if either Clark or Higgins are there. I really reckon Higgins will slide to us. We certainly have Allens position covered imo.

Just need to pray that Higgins of Clark slide to 13 i think Clark will be gone but starting to believe we will get Higgins suits are needs perfectly. GWS already have toby greene reckon Allen would actually be a great fit for them
