I will have a meltdown if we take Oscar Allen with our first pick. We have Kennedy and Darling in place and Waterman and Marcus (?) Allen awaiting their chances. We do not need another tall forward at this stage, we need midfielders !

Cal Twomey will be doing a phantom mock next week - that is his view as to who goes where based on some pretty good inside connections.

Todat on AFL.com, he has a form guide update: interesting as there have been no significant games or matches the past 2 weeks!

What is good reading is some inside information as to who may take and where.

I will forget the top 7 because they are not in play for us.
  • Higgins - WC has been watching him closely IF he gets past GWS but this is the earliest he has been linked
  • Clark - invited to draft night as Saints, Carlton, GWS, Adelaide and WC interested. My reading is he may well be gone
  • Naughton - no link to us, Pies, Saints, Swans, etc
  • Coffield - heavily linked Saints with Adelaide, Carlton and WC would consider. Fluffy write up so see it as a Saints play.
  • Brander - more linked with a later Lions/Tigers late teens pick
  • O'Brien - linked to Richmond and WC but not our first pick
  • Allen - GWS at 11 and WC in the mix at 13
  • Constable - would not be surprised if he got through 1st round with Geelong, North and Carlton possibly interested
  • L Fogarty - Lions at 15 or 18 and Dogs at 16
  • Bailey - Suns at 19, North at 23 but no mention WC
  • Spargo - a possible WC link in 2nd round
  • Petrucelle - WC and GWS interested with one of their 2nd rounders but not surprised if ater
  • Miers - WC will be in the mix
  • Stoddart - WC has been linked
So interesting who we are linked with. As others say, we are often quiet about it. That said, Cal knows the interview list. He also spots O'Brien and Nash at the games.

My take away:
Feeling like Clark will more than likely be off the board before 13
We may well see both Constable and O'Brien last to the second round
Allen appears the only tall we are connected to early
Spargo and Miers are possible WC smaller forward options

So stay tuned - as I read it not who he thinks quite yet but starting to leak some of the gossip

I wasnt happy to read we are linked with another half back in Stoddart.

Maybe the eagles will try and revolutionise the game using a team of half backs.

Interesting in Twomey's article about Stephenson: "Fremantle's pick No.5 seems the earliest he could get taken, Collingwood and St Kilda have been linked to him as well, while he could get through to the Giants or Swans."

Surely we wouldn't let him through to the Swans.

On the half backs, we may be hoping that Yeo and Duggan are midfielders, which could leave the door open for another HBF on the list.

Need to get around the paywall but interesting read. CD ranks Higgins at 1

JACK HIGGINS (Oakleigh Chargers)

178cm forward

Averaged 145 SuperCoach points in 33 junior games, pipping Tom Rockliff. Consistently ranks elite for disposals, contested possessions and score involvements.

SAM SAYS: Huge shock at No.1. Likely to be 11-20, perhaps to GWS or West Coast. If the decorated and dedicated footy tragic was 10cm taller and a touch quicker, he’d be in No.1 mix.

Allen at 10 but interesting not linked to WC

.

10. OSCAR ALLEN (West Perth)

191cm key forward

Ranked in the top two key forwards at the national championships for disposals, marks, contested marks and score involvements. His 11 goals second only to Cam Rayner.

SAM SAYS: Will be a lead-up third tall at AFL level and likely to be considered by GWS at No.11 and Sydney at No.14. Won the Larke Medal as the best player at the championships

Not surprised that we have been linked to him.

I know that we have put a bit of time into Stoddart.
I was told in May that he was a player that WC were following closely.
He can play a variety of positions and has a lovely left foot.
Very good pace and an evasive player that takes the game on.
One of the better users of the football in this years cohort and is a player with very good decision making.
Can play both inside or out.

Personally I think he could be a very proficient wingman at the next level as he has a good balance of defence and attack.

Also just happens to be an Eagles supporter so the go home factor is lessened.

Which pick for Stoddart..37?

That would feel about right GP.
Depending what we did with our first three picks , if they were all genuine mids I could live with him going at 32 but 37 feels about right.

He impressed me when I watched him live.

Yeah but none of us including you DS has put a name to the Pilbara youngster ....disapponting fail .

Jac Jackiejenkenjumurra. By all accounts a real nasty piece of works with a mullet half way down to his arse, who is also a freakish talent. West Coast have played silly buggers with him all year to contain the hype of his growing legend.

Am I the only one that pays no attention to champion data rankings?

To my mind they're one of the more useless bits of information that get provided whether it's in relation to the draft or an AFL season

I see watson and nelson as our future half backs.
