You also have to look at the timeline in this.
Rfa period opens before trade.
If Fyfes coming to us. Then expect that announcement to be on day 1. We'll also know straight away if Freo are matching or not. All this gets organized behind the scenes beforehand.
We'll already have a plan in place of what to offer if that happens 3 days later when trade opens.
Now if we havnt made a FA bid for Fyfe when trade opens expect the big offers for Kelly to come through. Ofcourse that is if Kelly hasnt already nominated beforehand.
But if Fyfe announces us and Freo say they match and we have to trade it might get tricky for our negotiations with Kelly if he does want to come to us if we cant make an agreement with Freo.
The post season crew will be earning their pay this year.

They calculate the contract over the whole amount and divide it per year.

I wouldn't trade Acres no matter what. Fyfe looks like a half strength version these days. Acres potential is full Fyfe.

I don't agree on Rocky being less than Kelly. I would love both. Rocky has been the brick in shit sides where Kelly gets off the leash because he's at a club with 5 other guys who take the heat off him. Rocky is what he is though and is unlikely to get any better, you imagine the scope for improvement is still massive for Kelly.

Genuine question: has Kelly ever copped a really hard tag / team focus? If so, how did he go? My one concern with his price is that currently he looks great running free with all those great players around him. Is this a true reflection?

It all comes down to opportunity in Victoria marketing wise he out grown his market there, also if you've decided to leave you leave it's hard to jus back flip when you've made your mind up months or even a year earlier the process would of started.

pretty sure he copped a greenwood tag when they played collingwood and he's taken a few players out of games this year. kelly finished with 36 touches, 11 tackles and a goal.

You are judging it against an option that is a complete fairytale (RFA, no picks needed).
Forget it, it's just not possible because:
A. Freo want to keep him
B. Fyfe doesn't HATE freo, he isn't desperate to leave
C. Freo have plenty of cap space

We would need at least 1 of those factors to be false in order for us (or anyone) to have a shot at getting him as an RFA.

Do yourself a favour and forget about free agency and judge fyfe for hawks pick against other big trades for young brownlow winners.

the only reason freo would match a ridiculous offer would be so they can force a trade and get more than they otherwise would with straight compensation. its not because they're actually willing to pay him that amount. if he's accepted the saints offer than freo will know he wants to leave and that will be it. they will just match so they can get the best value possible in return.
