You're right.

We should forget about fyfe and instead put an actual bucket of money into the midfield next year to draw a tag away from jack steven.

Imagine how many goals stuv would kick while they opposition are distracted by all those coins!

It's truly incredible that people need to be convinced that at the end of a 5 year rebuild; getting a 25 year old brownlow medalist club captain for pick 10 and market rates salary is a good idea.
:drunk:
You truly think we are at the end of our rebuild, that we are primed for premiership success.

You must be watching another team, we are miles off.

We don't need one player we need five.

Where apart from your post does it say that we get Fyfe for pick 10 and market rates?.

Given fremantles ladder position and form clearly they want more than pick ten and we are offering overs as you would expect to get him out of Fremantle.

What I find truly incredible is that people can watch this team and believe that one player will make that much difference.

We trade all our picks for Kelly and Lever. Now the Compo pick Freo would get for Fyfe would be better than any pick we could offer them. Then we give Freo a super cheap deal on Hickey (Hickey and a 4th for their 3rd - giving us 2 thirds in the draft).

Trade Armo and a 3rd to Gold Coast for a 2nd (they have 4 of them or something ridiculous).

Keep Roo and Joey on cheap 1 year deals (assuming they don't want to retire).

In: Fyfe, Kelly, Lever, 2nd rounder, 3rd rounder.
Out: Hickey, Armo, three first rounders, 3rd rounder, 4th rounder, $$$.

Why yes, I did have a few beers with lunch. Why do you ask? :D

hes referring to the hawks pick in which we gave up pick 10 last year to get. get kelly and fyfe and we'll be sweet

So what you are saying is that we need to have traded out all our first rounders before Fyfe announces he wants to come to us?

Not that extreme but not too far off the mark.

We still need to give freo a reasonable offer near what fyfe is worth.

Hawks did it well last year screwing GC.

They traded away their pick 14 at the start of trade week to syd for tmitch.

That was WHILE GC were demanding 2 first rounders for jaeger.

They then went to GC and said, sorry we don't have 2.

We could/would do the same thing to freo, you can't trade what you don't have.

I have zero understanding of trade week guys so bear with me with the below scenario...
If, for whatever reason, we don't land a big fish (Fyfe/Kelly/Martin) and if this year's draft is only average for our needs, could we trade our first round picks this year off to brisbane for their first rounders next year?
Is that a thing that could potentially happen?
Apologies if this has been hypothesized previously (it's a long thread) or if thats against some form of AFL rule (again - zero understanding)

Thanks for humoring a trade noob.

Exactly. Even if we stuff up trade week we pick 2 of the best 12 kids in the land. Whatever happens we are a much stronger team.

Got to say that 2 top 10 picks may seem alright but if we don't manage a star this year no matter how we try and build up it would be a terribly disappointing trade period. We have said we are in the market, we have the money. There isn't an excuse. This has to be our year otherwise why would next year be our year. The mids we have at the moment wont ever let us be a top 4 side and probably not a top 6 side.

That is just hilarious. Genuinely.
I don't know if it's good or bad for us though. Our drafting has been absolutely superb. Trading/fa not so much.

We would love Steven May after failing to get Hurley. Heard the report last night you guys are into May. I was a little surprised given you got Carlisle last year and then Brown. Is a FB or CHB a pressing need for you guys? He wouldn't come cheap and you seem to be more in need of some speed and class in the middle to help Steven.

Wires crossed here clearly I have no idea what your talking about with regard to north and first rounders.

I thought you were having a laugh going back to the jokes about me being a north supporter when I first joined.

Hence the Fremantle joke, sorry.

ahhhhhhhh suddenly it all makes sense. i thought the other posters were genuine about you being a north supporter, when i responded to that i was on tapatalk. it doesnt show you what team a poster supports on tapatalk

so i took your post from a north supporters point of view stating they had an extra first rounder. re-reading your post on my laptop now, it now makes sense that you were referring to us not them hahahahah

all good mate! sorry from my end too

not really because right now
hawks pick = 5
freo compensation pick = 12
I will give you that at present that is the case and the Hawks weren't great last night so it could be close.

However did you catch Fremantle being destroyed by Adelaide to the tune of 100 points.

This will be close you don't match for a 1 or 2 pick upgrade if it came to that the clubs would work it out behind the scenes. If they match they will want the earth or their player to stay imho.

I have no doubt at all that we'll land someone of genuine quality (eg. on at least $500K PA) this year, as long as our season doesn't just go completely to shit from here.

We've just got so much cap space that we need to do something with that we'll probably just keep throwing money around until someone takes it. If someone hasn't agreed to come already.

There are probably guys like Hopper and Z Jones who are just waiting to see if a team like us or Norf gets desperate and offers them an overs amount of money, just so that we don't walk away empty handed (as far as ready-to-go talent goes) and to help us get to the minimum TPP requirement.

freo won't be within 1 or 2 picks of hawks imo.
freo will match anyway no matter where they finish. doesn't have to just be the hawks pick alone

Yes it was. We had holes everywhere. Carlisle came about and we drafted him and lucked out with Gres.
While adding more depth to the mids with Steele and Stevens, we lost Fisher and Dempster.
We needed a backman and Brown gittec the bill. Was no coincidence Roberton and Wrbster were killing it before Webster wad injured.

May would be fantastic but mids are the priority

I just watched Kelly's full press conference there and boy was he unconvincing in his commitment to stay at the Giants. The media kept pressing him to say that he would stay, or even like to stay, at the Giants, but he just kept on trotting out the cliches that his manager likely told him to say ("I love being at the club, we're building something really special up here" etc.)

Also said there were "a number of different factors" which need to be weighed up before making the move, of which he confirmed money was one of them. That really doesn't sound like someone who is desperate to be re-signed, and people have left even after saying more definitive statements about their commitment to their club (I'm looking at you Buddy, Treloar, Dangerfield).

I dunno if he will end up at North or the Saints, but I am reasonably confident it will not be at GWS. If they happen to win the premiership, then that confidence is 100%.

EDIT: Compare that to Jack Billings who has publicly said he wants to re-sign with the Saints soon. Realistically I can't see that happening in the short-term future because he will want to inflate his worth, which is his right, but simply the language coming from the two camps couldn't be more different.

Or, if Freo don't match then expect a cheaper than normal trade for Hickey or heaven forbid Blake
If we have to trade Blake to get one of these stars then forget it.

We need to increase the total number of stars we have; not simply change the names of those we already have.

Hawks pick cost us pick 10.
If freo accept hawks pick for fyfe, we have effectively spent pick 10 on fyfe
That's one way to look at it.

If the Hawks pick ends up 5 we will want it's true value, we had to forgo a first round pick who may have helped us this year and would have had 12 months development. Yes we got 2 seconds it was a good deal for us without doubt.

I might also add once again that imho it will close between hawthorn and Fremantle come the end of the year.

So again why would they match for a say 2 pick upgrade, surely the clubs would make a deal behind the scenes.

I repeat imho if they match they will want plenty or their player, fair enough so would we.

Enough of Fyfe if we get him great he is one of my favourite non saints, if everything falls apart we can go to the draft and pick 2 young guns.

Purple saying he thinks Kelly will stay so maybe the club has a rabbit or two up their sleeve or we can enjoy the draft this year.

I wonder just how much in advance of trade week these deals are actually "nudge, nudge, wink, wink" finalised?

I'm referring to the tidbit thrown out by Moorabbin Ghost a few pages ago when he said that we could be courting two players around the message of "come to us Jelly :)because we'll be getting a certain #7 too ;)
( insert any player names here, but I'm going for broke!)

That's definitely something that would not only come to fruition in trade week, but luckily we've got Ameet the magician juggling the balls!
