Trealor was a gun when he was traded to Collingwood, in the landscape at that time I think he was if anything bigger than Kelly.

They have matured as a team and have more depth now than they had at that time.

Collingwood overpaid, two first rounders with a second back is not the new standard.

If we are lucky enough to win the chase for Kelly his trade price will depend on several factors not the least of which will be pick numbers.

It is possible that the Hawks pick will be pick 3-5. A pick in that range with some change for academy players is plenty for any out of contract player.

I know he was pick two and has lived up to his pick, stiff for GWS you can't keep them all paying mates rates. When they offer Kelly one million a year to stay, then they can ask for two first rounders.

Out of contract players generally get to their club of choice, I trust ameet not to overpay.

Kelly this year is clearly rated higher than trelaor when he left. They may have similar possessions but one uses it better. He will most likely cost 2 first rounders and is worth every cent of that unless it was pick one and two. I reckon ours and the Hawks picks will certainly get it done. Hopefully we improve so it isn't as high a pick

We move on pretty quickly around there. we'll have a new shiny toy In no time.. Look, you pull its tail straight and it curls right back up again. Curly, Straight, Curly, Straight, Curly, Straight.
Too bad your new shiny toy will be whatever's left after we get Dusty and Jelly :)

What was the main selling point to these boys again?? Less money? Something, something.

Better go back to the marketing department. ;)

The sales pitch goes something like:

"Hi. We're not north melbourne."

;)

All reports are it's getting rave reviews at our fremantle and western sydney focus groups

I don't really get the bashing of North. They are in so many ways a carbon copy of us as a club. A small club that have battled against the big boys for ages; granted they've enjoyed their fair share more of success than us particularly over the 90s. They have been close to the edge and nearly folded. They have a loyal band of supporters. They have an exciting young team. Now they are going hard at some of the talent on offer through free agency and trade. I say good on them.

I hope we beat them to Kelly; having said that if we do lose out to them I'd rather he go there than Hawthorn or the Pies. A few of their supporters are up and about on bigfooty. Oh well that is hardly representative of them as a club.

Taking the piss out of them as a club feels quite foolish considering our similarities.

Treloar along with smith was their gun midfielder at that time and Collingwood paid overs thinking he would push their list over the top.

If we pay those prices get used to watching a great player in a loosing side, déjà vu.

There is no point at all chasing Kelly without adding other talent both by draft and trade. The saints ability to attract players this year is based on $$$$$ not on picks, we have one extra first and no second.

Overpay at your peril.

The Norff boys on their site are going to be pretty upset if we happen to get Kelly . They seem to think that they have him signed , sealed and delivered , along with Martin by the sounds of it. They get real nasty if a Saints person suggests otherwise, lol.

And apparently it takes less than 20 minutes to get from Elwood to Arden st in peak hour traffic . And a Saints fan made up that Steele and Kelly are friends . And they get very angry every time a reporter says that the Saints are leading the charge for Kelly . Apparently one Norff fans whole family supports the Saints apart from him but none of them knew who Kelly was last season . I think that's more a reflection of his family rather than Saints supporters.

20 years ago it took 15 minutes to get from the World Trade Center to Elwood in shoulder not peak, I know I did it every day.

Now you could double that and add change then you have to get to Arden street so call it 45 minutes of bumper to bumper on a dream day.

Moorabbin is a twenty minute cruise pick your route, bay views and south road or straight along the highway.

Except at the very start of our rebuild we didn't throw around million dollar contracts to anyone and everyone in a desperate attempt to avoid having to admit we were rebuilding. That deserves all the ridicule they are getting.

Can't wait the gold coast beckons, drowning man strategy in play.

Because you still need to draft three players in the draft, thereby weakening your list. You need a presence in the draft, even if it is only a second round pick like we had last year. Look at how last years draft impacted Hawks and Dees. They drafted some horrible players!
Upgrade NoK and Marshall and we only need one.

The major difference being there was zero list mgt planning behind the pies getting treloar beyond: he's available and good, let's get him!

We PLANNED for adding the likes of fyfe/kelly in 2017/18 5 years ago!!!

We're following our PLAN by using all our picks to get guys like fyfe/kelly.

This is the same plan that has taken us from a post ross lyon basketcase with no cap space, no youth and a wooden spoon, to now.

We don't overpay, but we don't suddenly become shy about trading picks.

Look another norffy coming in to our board trying to convince us how calm they all are.

Massive lols. Having to go on to opposition boards all the time smacks of incredible insecurity

We all know how irrelevant North are, seems like their supporters know that as well.

And underpay and get nothing. No guarantees in the draft. Certainty in the trade.

Normally I'd agree but not with their midfield.
They literally have curtly hampton and cam ellis yolmen as first choice mids.

Brad crouch can't stay on the park, they need mid depth which dunstan is.

But so do we.
So it wouldn't be a fire sale, it would take adelaides first rounder (pick 16-18?) to get it done.
Anything less and we'd keep him I'd think.
Unless we needed to dump his contract for cap space for a couple of elite mids?
A 1st round pick for dunstan lucky to get a 2nd rounder for the plodder

Treloar was considered their best mid 2 years ago (at worst on par with Shiel).

The 2 x 1st for Kelly & something back will be in the right ballpark. You've got to remember that 2nd round picks to the Giants are like 5th round picks to the rest of the clubs. They've got picks falling out of their pockets as the walk along the streets of Blacktown so throwing one back our way isn't a big deal to them.

Their need for a ruckman with Mummy getting on, Downie retired and Lobb a chance to head west is a factor we could use to our advantage.

If the Hawks continue their spiral down & we give up a top 3 pick (Kelly's draft value) plus Hickey (to offset his improvement & their investment in him) it would be pretty close to the mark IMO. They're contending right now and another 1st round pick will be strengthening their NEAFL team not the one that matters.

Pick 3 and Hickey for Kelly
Fyfe- free agent
Dunstan & our 2018 1st pick for Lever
Take our 1st pick to the draft.
Yes but that's because treloar has gone backwards since leaving gws.
Get in a time machine and compare how treloar looked 2 years ago against how kelly looks now.
Kelly still looks better, but not by much.
At this stage Kelly would be a shoe in for All Australian. Treloar didn't even make the 40 man squad in his last year.

Treloar had a very good year for a kid his age, but Kelly looks set to be possibly the best midfielder in the comp the way he is tracking.

McCarthy requested a trade and you know what the Giants did? Held onto him cos the price wasn't right. They won't just give away players for shits and gigs and they won't easily let go of 2 of the best players on their exceptionally talented list.

Not sure what your point is?

Someone asked why jelly would be traded.

If gws trade him, it will be because he is out of contract and requests a trade. Not because they want to let him go....

If the offer is fair it will get done

No club has EVER matched a free agent offer.

If they match then we walk... and he walks into the draft & they lose him for nothing.

Maybe no one has matched because they couldn't afford it. And hardly any players just walk into the draft these days. Most want to do the right thing by the club and most managers do as well because they have to work with clubs. Adelaide and our club basically did it with Dangerfield and Dal.

Collingwood only 'overpaid' as such because of where the 2016 pick ended up.

Pick 7 in 2015 & pick 13 in 2016 wouldn't have looked too bad with the 2nd rounder coming back.

The fact that it ended up being pick 7 & pick 8 is the part that burned them. I guess adding Treloar was what they thought would get them to a position where that 2016 pick was up around 12-14.

Don't really know why. Their forward line & their defence is very very flaky.

I don't feel we'd be in the same boat in giving up similar for Kelly because our defence is solid & our forward line is alright, just a tad dysfunctional at present

And underpay and get nothing. No guarantees in the draft. Certainty in the trade.
Good point but underpay wasn't mentioned.

I'm happy to pay a fair price for an uncontracted gun youngster who wants to come home plus a bit extra.

So much still to playout Ameet has been good so far.

No club has EVER matched a free agent offer.

If they match then we walk... and he walks into the draft & they lose him for nothing.

No club has ever matched an RFA offer because in every single case where the offer WOULD be matched... a trade has been agreed to between the 2 clubs.

Danger is a perfect example.
Of course Adelaide would have matched any geelong RFA bid for him.
The cats knew that, because Adelaide would have straight up told them: "we will match any FA bid so dont even bother, unless you plan on paying him a stupid buddy level 9 year deal".

Freo would tell us the exact same thing.
